Peroxisomal changes during hiberation of jerboa (Jaculus orientalis)
1998
As a member of the order of Rodentia, jerboa (Jaculus orientalis) is a natural deep hibernator and lives in subdesert highland in many parts of the world, including Morocco. Its small size (adult body weight ∼100 g), availability in the wild, tolerance to laboratory conditions, and some unique peroxisomal properties make it a suitable research subject for exploring peroxisome biogenesis under prehibernating and hibernating states. During 3 w, animals referred to as the prehibernator group were exposed to cold temperature (5 to 7°C) with food ad libitum. Part of the prehibernator group entered deep hibernation 24 to 48 h after starvation. Animals were sacrificed 4 and 6 d after starting hibe…

ALLA RICERCA DELL’UGUAGLIANZA NELLA REGOLAMENTAZIONE PENALE DELLA CLANDESTINITA`: UN PRINCIPIO A STRUTTURA INVERSA
2020
Effect of nitrogen fertilizer level on quality and shelf-life of fresh cut Swiss chard
2018
Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris L. var. cicla L.) is a leafy vegetable highly appreciated in some areas for its nutritional properties and year round supply. Its production area is not commercially important, but this minor vegetable offers an interesting enlargement of the current vegetable assortment by using its stalks and leaves. Swiss chard is a very nutritive demanding species. The content of mineral elements, total quality and yield are influenced by the amount, frequency and method of fertilization. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of high or low levels of nitrogen fertilization on the quality and shelf-life of minimally processed Swiss chard. Plants grown with a high (18…

La ‹‹bellezza del sapore››: i sorbetti di Leopardi
2008
The essay analyzes the Leopardi reflections on the theme of taste present in the Zibaldone and reviews the occurrences of the theme of food in Leopardi's work, focusing on its value and significance.
In HCV-related liver cirrhosis, local pulse wave velocity increases and in decompensated patients correlates with poorer survival
2018
BackgroundCirrhotic cardiomyopathy (CCM) refers to cardiac dysfunction in patients with liver cirrhosis, in the absence of other known cardiac disease.MethodsControl group and patients diagnosed of liver cirrhosis without known cardiac disease or hepatocellular carcinoma were enrolled for this clinical observation study. Patients with diabetes mellitus, hypertension were excluded. Absolute global longitudinal strain, one-point carotid pulse wave velocity (one-point PWV) and various parameters were measured in resting status.ResultsThere were 29 participants in the control group and 80 patients in the liver cirrhosis group. 27.8% of cirrhotic patients presented with normal systolic but abnor…
Génération et détection d'électrons chauds dans des dispositifs plasmoniques
2021
Hot carrier-based devices are quite promissing for ultrafast photodetection and toset off enhanced physicochemical reactions. Controlling their generation at the nanoscale within plasmonic devices is a key for the future development of hybrid hot carriers technologies. Indeed, Surface PlasmonPolaritons (SPPs) can be exploited to confine light and enhance the number of excited hot carriers. We aim at studying the excitation and dynamics of hot carriers, enhanced by plasmonics, with two different approaches. In a first approach, we aim at controlling the delocalized generation of hot carriers by a propagative SPP. A plasmonic waveguide with a grating coupler is employed. Hot electrons are indi…
Phenotypic characterisation of pro-inflammatory monocytes and dendritic cells in peripheral arterial disease
2012
SummaryAtherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory process involving antigen-presenting cells like monocytes and dendritic cells (DC). The aim of this study was to perform a phenotypic characterisation of these cell types in patients with different degrees of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Sixty patients with PAD [N= 30 intermittent claudication (IC), N= 30 critical limb ischemia (CLI)] and 30 controls were included. Peripheral blood leucocytes were analysed from peripheral blood by flow cytometry using different gating strategies to directly identify and analyse monocytes, myeloid DC, (mDC) and plasmacytoid DC (pDC). PAD patients showed a significantly higher proportion of proinflammator…
Prevalence and Risk Factors of PAD among Patients with Elevated ABI
2008
ObjectivesTo assess the prevalence and clinical significance of elevated ankle-brachial index (ABI) in patients referred to vascular consultation.DesignRetrospective clinical study.Material and methodsIn 1,762 patients referred with a suspicion of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), ABI and toe brachial index (TBI) were measured by photoplethysmography. ABI≥1.3 was considered falsely elevated and TBI<0.60 was the diagnostic criterion for PAD.ResultsThe prevalence of elevated ABI was 8.4% and that of PAD among these patients 62.2%. PAD was significantly more prevalent among subjects with severe symptoms (rest pain, ulcers or gangrene) than in those with intermittent claudication (83.8% and 45…
