Flexible Laser Tracing Systems for Defining Thin Film Hybrid Geometries

1994

A recent programme of technical collaboration between Alelco, DIE of Palermo and CRES of Monreale has led to the development and operative confirmation of a technique for delineating conductive microgeometries on various types of Substrates. This technique, using a flexible System of laser microlithography on planar (2-D) or three-dimensional (3-D) surfaces, has led to the development of several types of thin film components for use at both low and high frequencies. © 1994, MCB UP Limited

Transconductance Converters Based on Current Mirrors Applied to pH Measurement Using ISFET Sensors

2009

New transconductance circuits (V/I converters) are designed based on current mirrors and operational amplifiers. Their input/output characteristics and the influence of DC parameters are obtained. Experimental results were performed, comparing them with the simulated results. An electronic instrumentation circuit is designed based on one of the transconductance converters analyzed. The purpose of this circuit was to condition the response of an ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFET) to measure pH. In the proposed application, the V/I converter presented provides the stability and accuracy of the ISFET operating point, making an easy characterization procedure and the design of multic…

Investigation of recovery mechanisms in dye sensitized solar cells

2016

Abstract We study the spontaneous recovery phenomenon displayed by solar cells sensitized with a ruthenium complex-based dye N719, which manifests with the increase over the time (from several minutes up to some days) of the short circuit current density J sc and the open circuit voltage V oc , during cell illumination. Under dark conditions the current decreases over time after the application of forward bias voltages. We investigate the effects of temperature and electrolyte composition by means of current–voltage measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, both under dark and illumination conditions. The main result is that the recovery of the performances depends on the cha…

A subthreshold, low-power, RHBD reference circuit, for earth observation and communication satellites

2015

A low-power, wide temperature range, radiation tolerant CMOS voltage reference is presented. The proposed reference circuit exhibits a voltage deviation of 0.8mV for 3-MeV protons total ionization dose of 2Mrad and a voltage deviation of 3.8mV for 10-keV X-rays total ionization dose of 4Mrad while being biased at the nominal supply voltage of 0.75V during X-ray irradiation. In addition, the circuit consumes only 4μW and exhibits a measured Temperature Drift of 15ppm/°C for a temperature range of 190°C (−60°C to 130°C) at the supply voltage of 0.75V. It utilizes only CMOS transistors, operating in the subthreshold regime, and poly-silicon resistors without using any diodes or external compon…

Modelling, Simulation and Characterization of a Supercapacitor in Automotive Applications

2022

In the energy storage field, supercapacitors (SCs) are gaining more and more attention thanks to features such as high-power density, high life cycles and lack of maintenance. In this article, an improved SC three-branches model which considers the residual charge phenomenon is presented. The procedure to estimate the model parameters and the related experimental set-up are presented. The parameter estimation procedure is repeated for several SCs of the same type. The average parameters are then obtained and used as initial guesses for a recursive least square optimization algorithm, to increase the accuracy of the model. The model of a single SC is then extended to SC banks, testing differ…

A fast heuristic for solving the D1EC coloring problem

2010

In this paper we propose an efficient heuristic for solving the Distance-1 Edge Coloring problem (D1EC) for the on-the-fly assignment of orthogonal wireless channels in wireless as soon as a topology change occurs. The coloring algorithm exploits the simulated annealing paradigm, i.e., a generalization of Monte Carlo methods for solving combinatorial problems. We show that the simulated annealing-based coloring converges fast to a sub optimal coloring scheme even for the case of dynamic channel allocation. However, a stateful implementation of the D1EC scheme is needed in order to speed-up the network coloring upon topology changes. In fact, a stateful D1EC reduces the algorithm’s convergen…

A New ESO-Based Method to Find the Optimal Topology of Structures Subject to Multiple Load Conditions

2014

In the field of topology optimization problems, the Evolutionary Structural Optimization (ESO) method is one of the most popular and easy to use. When dealing with problems of reasonable difficulty, the ESO method is able to give very good results in reduced times and with a limited request of computational resources. Generally, main applications of this method are addressed to the definition of the optimal topology of a component subjected to a single load condition. In this work, a new methodology, based on the ESO approach, is introduced for the study of the optimal topology of a component subjected to multiple load conditions. The new procedure, entirely developed in the APDL programmin…

Finding all optimal solutions to the network flow problem

1986

The problem examined in this paper is as follows: Given a feasible optimum basic solution (f.o.b.s) of the minimum cost network flow problem, find all the f.o.b.s of this problem. The existence of alternative f.o.b.s is characterized by means of elementary circuits of zero cost and length greater than two in the incremental graph associated to the given f.o.b.s. It is shown that any alternative f.o.b.s. can be obtained from the original one by circulating flow through elementary circuits belonging to a succession of incremental graphs. This result leads to the construction of an efficient algorithm to obtain all f.o.b.s. of the network flow problem.

Optimal positioning of irregular shapes in stamping die strip

2010

The nesting of two-dimensional shapes is a common problem, where raw material has to be economically cut. As for the single-pass single-row strip layout, several algorithms, based on established methods, have been proposed. Moreover, it should be noticed that the optimum layout should also consider a few constraints, like grain orientation for subsequent forming operation, correct bridge width, and the commercial roll of metal width in order to make solutions applicable in real industrial environments. Most of the procedures until now shown in literature are quite complex and often ignore these real constraints. They usually make use of sliding techniques and are not able to effectively wor…
