Information Disclosure and Sustainable Competitive Advantage: Evidence from the Spanish Tourism Industry
2022
Of all the resources and capabilities that have a well-established impact on decision-making, information stands out. With the advent of the digital economy, organizations have been making significant information and communication technology (ICT) investments, but the empirical evidence of the impact of these investments on business outcomes has been inconsistent. This article studies the conditions that disclosed information resources and ICT must fulfil in order to become a source of sustainable competitive advantage in tourism organizations. The results point to the need to identify distinct financial and non-financial information dimensions, distinguished according to their direct poten…
Assessment of Renewable Sources for the Energy Consumption in Malta in the Mediterranean Sea
2016
The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the energy production in the Maltese islands, focusing on the employment of renewable energies in order to increase their energy independence. The main renewable source here proposed is wave energy: thanks to a strategic position, Malta will be able to produce electrical energy using an innovative type of Wave Energy Converter (WEC) based on the prototype of a linear generator realized by University of Palermo. The use of this new technology will be able to cut down the electrical energy production from traditional power plants and, consequently, the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Wave energy source and off-shore photovoltaic (PV) technology are…
Pediatric Urinary Diversion: Review and Own Experience
1992
New insights into the diseases of childhood, profound improvements and new developments in surgical techniques as well as the knowledge gained from long-term follow-up have altered the strategies and indications for urinary diversion in childhood. Continent urinary diversion is generally the method of choice. We are able to construct high capacity, low pressure reservoirs to protect the upper urinary tract and achieve continence. Nowadays, there is hardly any indication for permanent cutaneous urinary diversion. Temporary and intermediate cutaneous diversion are used only when serious conditions such as renal function deterioration occur. The possibility to convert any incontinent form of u…
Evolution of oncolytic viruses.
2015
Owing to their replicative capacity, oncolytic viruses (OVs) can evolve under the action of natural selection. Reversion to virulence and recombination with wild-type strains may compromise OV safety, therefore requiring evolutionary risk assessment studies. On the other hand, evolution can be directed in the laboratory to create more potent and safer OVs. Previous work in the experimental evolution field provides a background for OV directed evolution, and has identified interesting exploitable features. While genetic engineering has greatly advanced the field of oncolytic virotherapy, this approach is sometimes curtailed by the complexity and diversity of virus-host interactions. Directed…
THE ROLE OF ONTOLOGICAL LEARNING LEVELS IN DEVELOPING DYNAMIC CAPABILITIES
2018
This paper explores the links between the fields of dynamic capabilities and organisational learning (OL), emphasising the role of the different ontological learning levels. The resource-based view (RBV) is pinpointed as the key origin of the dynamic capabilities view (DCV), in connection with OL and knowledge management. Ontological learning levels are identified as key OL stages. The knowledge-based view (KBV) of the firm is introduced as a key link between OL processes and dynamic capabilities development. Specifically, we propose a novel and integrative framework for understanding the role that the RBV, the DCV, OL, and the KBV, have, in an inter-connected way, have played in achieving …
Competitive advantage and strategy formulation
2005
Purpose – The aim of this paper is to promote the use of dynamic capabilities as a strategic tool of the highest order in terms of firm management.Design/methodology/approach – The content of the article is developed from a table that offers some insights into the relationship between the three theoretical perspectives analyzed in the paper: resource‐based view, knowledge‐based view and dynamic‐capabilities view.Findings – The paper describes the evolution that can be discerned in the process of developing competitive advantage, from a resource‐based view to a dynamic‐capabilities framework.Originality/value – The objective of the article was not to bring to light any new revelations in thi…
Functional MR imaging of pulmonary ventilation using hyperpolarized noble gases.
2000
The current status of experimental and clinical applications for functional MR imaging of pulmonary ventilation using hyperpolarized noble gases are reviewed. 3-helium (3He) and 129-xenon (129Xe) can be hyperpolarized by optical pumping techniques such as spin exchange or metastability exchange in sufficient amounts. This process leads to an artificial, non-equilibrium increase of the density of excited nuclei which represents the source of the MR signal. Those hyperpolarized gases are administered mostly via inhalation, and will fill airways and airspaces allowing for ventilation imaging. Recent human studies concentrate on imaging the airways and airspaces with high spatial resolution. N…
RESPONSABILITÀ DELL’INSEGNANTE EX ART. 2048, II COMMA, COD. CIV., ANCHE PER L’ALLIEVO MAGGIORENNE? IL REVIREMENT DELLA SUPREMA CORTE
2019
Decision n. 2334/2018 by Corte di Cassazione represents a revirement with regards to the liability of teachers and more generally, instructors, since it admits these subjects are responsible also for students who are eighteen or “almost eighteen” years old. More specifically, tough, the Court also specifies that at the same time being eighteen plays a relevant role in the burden of proof that, as it is well known, it is established to come from the teacher. The latter will have only to prove the age of his students in order to avoid his responsibility since the harmful event is a casual occurrence.
Bibliometric analysis of the international literature on open innovation and absorptive capacity
2016
A Design Methodology for Low-Power MCML Ring Oscillators
2007
In this paper, a low-power design method for MCML based ring oscillators is presented. The proposed method takes into account the parasitic capacitances of the MOS transistors. To validate it, some ring oscillators with different oscillation frequencies were designed in a 0.18 mum CMOS technology. SPICE simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the design method.
