Multisciplinary management of patients with liver metastasis from colorectal cancer
2016
Abstract: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death. Surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy have been till now the main therapeutic strategies for disease control and improvement of the overall survival. Twenty-five per cent (25%) of CRC patients have clinically detectable liver metastases at the initial diagnosis and approximately 50% develop liver metastases during their disease course. Twenty-thirty per cent (20%-30%) are CRC patients with metastases confined to the liver. Some years ago various studies showed a curative potential for liver metastases resection. For this reason some authors proposed the conversion of unresectable liver metastases to res…
Luce e colori sulle rovine. Strategie museografiche per la comunicazione dell'archeologia
2012
Kinetics of carotenoids degradation and furosine formation in dried apricots (Prunus armeniaca L.)
2017
Abstract The kinetics of carotenoid and color degradation, as well as furosine formation, were investigated in apricot fruits during convective heating at 50, 60 and 70 °C. Degradation of carotenoids and color, expressed as total color difference (TCD), followed a first and zero order kinetic, respectively. The activation energy (Ea) for carotenoids degradation ranged from 73.7 kJ/mol for 13- cis -β-carotene to 120.7 kJ/mol for lutein, being about 91 kJ/mol for all- trans -β-carotene. Violaxanthin and anteraxanthin were the most susceptible to thermal treatment. The furosine evolution was fitted at zero order kinetic model. The Ea for furosine formation was found to be 83.3 kJ/mol and the Q…
In situobservation of the generation and annealing kinetics of E ′ centres induced in amorphous SiO2by 4.7 eV laser irradiation
2011
The kinetics of E' centers induced in silica by 4.7eV laser irradiation was investigated observing in situ their optical absorption band at 5.8 eV. After exposure the defects decay due to reaction with diffusing molecular hydrogen of radiolytic origin. Hydrogen-related annealing is active also during exposure and competes with the photo-induced generation of the centers until a saturation is reached. The concentrations of E' and H2 at saturation are proportional, so indicating that the UV-induced generation processes of the two species are correlated. These results are consistent with a model in which E' and hydrogen are generated from a common precursor Si-H.
Cancer in Elderly Onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Population-Based Study.
2016
IF 10.383; International audience; OBJECTIVES: Cancer may be a complication of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or its treatment. In elderly onset IBD patients the risk of malignancy is of particular concern. We studied this risk in a population-based cohort of elderly onset IBD patients.METHODS: In a French population-based cohort, we identified 844 patients aged >60 years at IBD diagnosis from 1988 to 2006, including 370 Crohn's disease (CD) and 474 ulcerative colitis (UC). We compared incidence of cancer among IBD patients with that observed in the French Network of population-based Cancer Registries (FRANCIM). Confidence interval (CI) was estimated assuming a Poisson-specific law for ra…

Analysis of RET promoter CpG island methylation using methylation-specific PCR (MSP), pyrosequencing, and methylation-sensitive high-resolution melti…
2016
Background Already since the 1990s, promoter CpG island methylation markers have been considered promising diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive cancer biomarkers. However, so far, only a limited number of DNA methylation markers have been introduced into clinical practice. One reason why the vast majority of methylation markers do not translate into clinical applications is lack of independent validation of methylation markers, often caused by differences in methylation analysis techniques. We recently described RET promoter CpG island methylation as a potential prognostic marker in stage II colorectal cancer (CRC) patients of two independent series. Methods In the current study, we analy…
Efficacy of trifluridine and tipiracil (TAS-102) versus placebo, with supportive care, in a randomized, controlled trial of patients with metastatic …
2016
[Purpose] TAS-102 is a combination of the thymidine-based nucleoside analog trifluridine and the thymidine phosphorylase inhibitor tipiracil. Efficacy and safety of TAS-102 in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) refractory or intolerant to standard therapies were evaluated in the phase 3 RECOURSE trial. Results of RECOURSE demonstrated significant improvement in overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) with TAS-102 versus placebo [hazard ratio (HR) = 0.68 and 0.48 for OS and PFS, respectively; both P < 0.001]. The current analysis evaluates efficacy and safety of TAS-102 in the RECOURSE Spanish subgroup.
Prognostic and predictive value of primary tumour side in patients with RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer treated with chemotherapy and EGFR…
2017
BACKGROUND: There is increasing evidence that metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is a genetically heterogeneous disease and that tumours arising from different sides of the colon (left versus right) have different clinical outcomes. Furthermore, previous analyses comparing the activity of different classes of targeted agents in patients with KRAS wild-type (wt) or RAS wt mCRC suggest that primary tumour location (side), might be both prognostic and predictive for clinical outcome. METHODS: This retrospective analysis investigated the prognostic and predictive influence of the localization of the primary tumour in patients with unresectable RAS wt mCRC included in six randomized trials (CRY…
