Profesionālās mācīšanās kopienas Latvijas vispārējās izglītības sistēmā
2017
Contamination of soil by copper affects the dynamics, diversity, and activity of soil bacterial communities involved in wheat decomposition and carbo…
2009
ABSTRACT A soil microcosm experiment was conducted to evaluate the influence of copper contamination on the dynamics and diversity of bacterial communities actively involved in wheat residue decomposition. In the presence of copper, a higher level of CO 2 release was observed, which did not arise from greater wheat decomposition but from a higher level of stimulation of soil organic matter mineralization (known as the priming effect). Such functional modifications may be related to significant modifications in the diversity of active bacterial populations characterized using the DNA stable-isotope probing approach.
A Concentric CSR Roadmap Model for Host Community Relations in the Global South
2014
The purpose of this article is to find new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approaches for corporate-community relationships in the global South and hence to achieve some distance from the Northern ethos. The article is based on a case study from the Brazilian pulp and paper sector. Veracel Celulose, a multinational corporation, is a joint venture between the Brazilian Fibria Celulose (formerly Aracruz Celulose) and the Swedish-Finnish Stora Enso. First, Veracel’s production impacts on the Indigenous community, the Pataxó Indians, are examined. Second, Veracel’s CSR policy and its subsequent impact are brought under closer scrutiny by juxtaposing corporate words with corporate actions.…
Suomalaiset kirkkoherrat Ruotsin valtion rakentajina 1550-luvulta 1610-luvulle
2019
This dissertation and the four separate articles contained therein examine Finnish pastors as builders of the Swedish state from the 1550s to the 1610s. The subject is studied from three perspectives. First, the relationship between the crown and the church (and the pastors) is explored. Second, the study investigates the relationship between the pastors and local communities. The third aspect connects the first two as it sheds light on the pastors’ role as intermediators between local communities and the crown. These perspectives provide the essential frameworks in which state build-ing took place: the centers of the realm, the local communities, and interaction be-tween the two. The sourc…
Technology as an influential variable in the development of dialogical learning
2021
Schools have a responsibility to prepare new generations born in a globalized and interconnected world. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the role that technology plays in the development of dialogical learning in learning communities. We try to understand the influence that technology has in fostering communication and interaction in an educational project that presents interaction and words as basic learning tools. An instrumental, interpretive, and embedded case study is applied in which the communicative methodology is developed from interviews and two discussion groups. The singular case involves a rural school constituted as a learning community that is geographically spl…

Tourism statistics: methodological imperatives and difficulties: the case of residential tourism in island communities
2008
Tourism statistics are one of the key sources of information for economists, public officials and tourism decision-makers. The aim of the present paper is to describe and critique the methodological difficulties encountered when approaching statistical studies in tourism. The case of hidden tourism in island communities is used to illustrate that in tourism statistics there exists a lack of clarity and convention concerning definitions, procedures, measurement and analytic approaches. The conclusions and the study implications should help tourism authorities and tourism statisticians to better define and standardise methodological and measurement approaches and practices and to more effecti…
Unveiling species assemblage rules in gypsum plant communities
2023
Plant communities are not merely snapshots of species located in the same area. Instead, they are dynamic entities connected through complex biotic interactions. Understanding the interplay of processes that bind species within a community is vital for comprehending species maintenance and may assist us in predicting how communities respond to the perturbations of a changing world. This Ph.D. aims to unveil how abiotic conditions, plant strategies, and biotic interactions shape plant communities growing in stressful environments. Plant species can thrive in stressful environments through contrasted strategies, either showing species-specific adaptive strategies or reliance on facilitative i…
