The plasmid-borne raf operon encodes functions required for the inducible uptake and utilization of raffinose in Escherichia coli K12. The expression of three structural genes for alpha-galactosidase (rafA), Raf permease (rafB) and sucrose hydrolase (rafD) is negatively controlled by the binding of RafR repressor (rafR) to two operator sites, O1 and O2, that flank the -35 sequence of the raf promoter, PA. Use of Bacillus thuringiensis toxins for control of the cotton pest earias insulana (Boisd.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

ABSTRACT Thirteen of the most common lepidopteran-specific Cry proteins of Bacillus thuringiensis have been tested for their efficacy against newly hatched larvae of two populations of the spiny bollworm, Earias insulana . At a concentration of 100 μg of toxin per milliliter of artificial diet, six Cry toxins (Cry1Ca, Cry1Ea, Cry1Fa, Cry1Ja, Cry2Aa, and Cry2Ab) were not toxic at all. Cry1Aa, Cry1Ja, and Cry2Aa did not cause mortality but caused significant inhibition of growth. The other Cry toxins (Cry1Ab, Cry1Ac, Cry1Ba, Cry1Da, Cry1Ia, and Cry9Ca) were toxic to E. insulana larvae. Abstract National wealth, national competitiveness and national intellectual capital were major objectives of a nation in the last century. By this paper we identify strong interrelations between national wealth, national competitiveness and national intellectual capital according to Pearson, R and R 2 results. These interrelations demonstrate that national wealth, national competitiveness and intellectual capital are important sources for increasing the economic development based on data from 40 developed, emerging and developing countries.

Competitiveness and interregional as well as international trade: The case of Catalonia

Recent years have seen a surge of interest among industrial organization economists in using data on international trade flows as windows into competitiveness. For countries that are at least mid sized (e g., Spain), interregional trade tends to be as large as or significantly larger than international trade.
