Cerebral metabolism after transient ischemic attack. A 1H MR spectroscopy study

1999

International audience; Abstract: Metabolic changes induced by cerebral infarction or by stenosis and occlusion of the internal carotid artery have been previously described in 1H Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H MRS). These changes are essentially characterized by decreased N-acetyl-aspartate (NAA) and increased lactate concentration. Little is known about the metabolic changes observed in the three days following a transient ischemic attack (TIA) in the absence of stenosis or occlusion of the internal carotid artery, and without visible infarction on Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI). We studied five patients with a TIA lasting between 30 min and 3 h, affecting the sensory and motor fun…

N-Acetylaspartate/Creatine and Choline/Creatine Ratios in the Thalami, Insular Cortex and White Matter as Markers of Hypertension and Cognitive Impai…

2008

International audience; Abstract: Our objective was to investigate the influence of hypertension on N-acetylaspartate (NAA) and choline (Cho) ratios in brain tissues in a community-dwelling elderly population. Brain flexibility was also evaluated with regard to the same metabolite ratios. Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and the Trail Making Test (TMT) were performed in 80 subjects (75.7 +/- 4 years old) from the Three-City Study. Fifty-eight participants had hypertension. The NAA/creatine (Cr) and Cho/Cr ratios were obtained in the insular cortex, the thalami and the deep periventricular white matter. In addition, the B-A score of the TMT was evaluated. Uniand multi-variate ana…

An adapted optical flow algorithm for robust quantification of cardiac wall motion from standard cine-MR examinations

2012

International audience; This paper presents a method for local myocardial motion estimation from a conventional steady-state free precession cine-MRI sequence using a modified phase-based optical flow (OF) technique. Initially, the technique was tested on synthetic images to evaluate its robustness with regards to Rician noise and to brightness variations. The method was then applied to cardiac images acquired on 11 healthy subjects. Myocardial velocity is measured in centimeter per second in each studied pixel and visualized as colored vectors superimposed on MRI images. The estimated phase-based OF results were compared with a reference OF method and gave similar results on synthetic imag…

Reactive plasmacytoses are expansions of plasmablasts retaining the capacity to differentiate into plasma cells.

1999

Abstract Circulating plasma cells in 10 cases of reactive plasmacytosis had a shared phenotype with early plasma cell (CD19+CD38+ CD138+ CD40+CD45+ CD11a+ CD49e−CD56−). In most cases, a minor subpopulation of CD28+ plasma cells was also detected. Reactive plasma cells were highly proliferative, suggesting the presence of circulating progenitors (plasmablasts). After CD138+ plasma cell removal, highly proliferative CD138− plasmablasts differentiated into CD138+ plasma cells within a few days. This differentiation, which was associated with increased CD38 and decreased HLA-DR expression, was further confirmed by a large increase in intracellular Ig content (associated with Ig secretion) and w…

Intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: a 3.0-T MR study.

2012

International audience; PURPOSE: To compare pure molecular diffusion, D, perfusion-related diffusion, D*, and perfusion fraction, f, determined from diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging on the basis of the intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) theory in patients with type 2 diabetes with and without liver steatosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective study was approved by the appropriate ethics committee, and written informed consent was obtained from all patients. Between December 2009 and September 2011, 108 patients with type 2 diabetes (51 men, 57 women; mean age, 50 years) underwent 3.0-T single-voxel point-resolved proton MR spectroscopy of the liver (segment VII…

The use of national administrative data to describe the spatial distribution of in-hospital mortality following stroke in France, 2008-2011.

2016

International audience; Background: In the context of implementing the National Stroke Plan in France, a spatial approach was used to measure inequalities in this disease. Using the national PMSI-MCO databases, we analyzed the in-hospital prevalence of stroke and established a map of in-hospital mortality rates with regard to the socio-demographic structure of the country. Methods: The principal characteristics of patients identified according to ICD10 codes relative to stroke (in accordance with earlier validation work) were studied. A map of standardized mortality rates at the level of PMSI geographic codes was established. An exploratory analysis (principal component analysis followed by …

A data mining approach for grouping and analyzing trajectories of care using claim data: the example of breast cancer

2013

International audience; BACKGROUND: With the increasing burden of chronic diseases, analyzing and understanding trajectories of care is essential for efficient planning and fair allocation of resources. We propose an approach based on mining claim data to support the exploration of trajectories of care. METHODS: A clustering of trajectories of care for breast cancer was performed with Formal Concept Analysis. We exported Data from the French national casemix system, covering all inpatient admissions in the country. Patients admitted for breast cancer surgery in 2009 were selected and their trajectory of care was recomposed with all hospitalizations occuring within one year after surgery. Th…

Discrimination of retinal images containing bright lesions using sparse coded features and SVM

2015

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a chronic progressive disease of the retinal microvasculature which is among the major causes of vision loss in the world. The diagnosis of DR is based on the detection of retinal lesions such as microaneurysms, exudates and drusen in retinal images acquired by a fundus camera. However, bright lesions such as exudates and drusen share similar appearances while being signs of different diseases. Therefore, discriminating between different types of lesions is of interest for improving screening performances. In this paper, we propose to use sparse coding techniques for retinal images classification. In particular, we are interested in discriminating between retina…

2011

International audience; Abstract: Purpose: To investigate the time course response of prostate metabolism to irradiation using magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) at 3-month intervals and its impact on biochemical control. Methods and Materials: Between January 2008 and April 2010, 24 patients with localized prostate cancer were prospectively enrolled in the Evaluation of the Response to Irradiation with MR Spectroscopy (ERIS) trial. All the patients had been treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy with or without long-term adjuvant hormonal therapy (LTHT) and underwent 3-T MRS and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) assays at baseline and every 3 months thereafter up to 12 months.…

Bone marrow fat quantification of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures: comparison of multi-voxel proton MR spectroscopy and chemical-shift g…

2011

Background Only a few studies have used in/opposed phase method for a quantitative evaluation of fat fraction in the spine. Purpose To compare multivoxel proton MR spectroscopy and chemical-shift gradient-echo MR imaging for bone marrow fat quantification in vertebral compression fractures (VCF). Material and Methods Vertebral marrow fat quantification in fifteen patients was measured at 3.0-T. Multi-voxel proton spectroscopy (MRS) and in/opposed-phase MR imaging using a fat map build with a triple-echo gradient-echo sequence was used. All the patients had benign vertebral collapse. Bone marrow fat content was evaluated by both techniques in compressed (acute or chronic) and in non-compress…
