Effects of High Frequency Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (HF-rTMS) on Delay Discounting in Major Depressive Disorder: An Open-Label Unc…

2019

Background: Delay discounting (DD) refers to the decrease of a present subjective value of a future reward as the delay of its delivery increases. Major depressive disorder (MDD), besides core emotional and physical symptoms, involves difficulties in reward processing. Depressed patients often display greater temporal discounting rates than healthy subjects. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique applied in several countries to adult patients with treatment resistant depression. Studies suggest that this technique can be used to modulate DD, but no trial has assessed its effects on depressed patients. Methods: In this open-label unc…

CONTEMPORARY ACTUALITIES AND CHALLENGES OF ASSESSMENT OF DEPRESSION IN ADOLESCENTS

2018

Depression is one of the most widespread mental disorders worldwide. Adolescence is a vulnerable period for developing depression. It is associated with a number of challenges in biological, psychological and social areas. Depression, if left unassessed and untreated properly, has a great negative impact on well–being, mental and physical health, social functioning, academical achievement, and economical disadvantages on the national level as well. Studies reveal the need of improving the identification of depression symptoms in adolescents among different types of specialists working with them (i.e. in educational, primary care, clinical settings). Also, efficient measurement instruments a…

Vitellogenesis inhibition in Oncopeltus fasciatus females (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae) exposed to cadmium

2005

Abstract Newly moulted females of the insect Oncopeltus fasciatus were exposed to cadmium (Cd) dissolved in the drinking water (50–400 mg l −1 Cd) for 5 days. Cd exposure delayed ovarian maturation and inhibited egg production. Exposure to Cd, moreover, decreased hemolymph levels of the two major vitellogenin polypeptides of O. fasciatus , VG1 and VG2, in a concentration-dependent way, probably by a reduction in their synthesis. The ovarian levels of VG1 and VG2 were also decreased in Cd-exposed females. It was next investigated whether Cd effects might be a consequence of the endocrine disruption of vitellogenin synthesis, which is controlled by juvenile hormone (JH). JH replacement therap…

No relationship between baseline salivary alpha-amylase and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Score in drug-naïve patients with short-illness-duration fi…

2016

BACKGROUND Salivary α-amylase (sAA) activity alternations are observed in major depressive disorder (MDD) being associated with depression severity and its specific psychopathological dimensions with anxiety being attributed to distress. No data is available on sAA in MDD according to Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The exploratory study examines whether and to what extent baseline sAA level is interrelated to the psychopathological features including severity of symptoms and specific psychopathological dimensions. MATERIAL AND METHODS The basal, non-stimulated sAA activity was studied in 20 non-late-life adult, treatment-naive MDD pa…

Incidence and prevalence of injuries in futsal: A systematic review of the literature

2021

Futsal athletes are exposed to a high number of injures. Purpose: This study aimed to gather data on the injures produced in futsal, attending to the prevalence, part of the body injured, type of injury and mechanism, and severity. Also, to evaluate the influence that sociodemographic factors and the position on the pitch may have on the injuries. Finally, we pursued to summarize the prevention strategies proposed by the expert literature. Design: Different search strategies were entered in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Sport Discuss databases. Results: 36 articles were selected to be reviewed. Futsal is situated among the sports with the highest injury incidence, being the main body …

Muscular failure training in conditioninig neuromuscular programs

2010

Many recommendations for designing of resistance training programs are suggested training all the sets to perform until voluntary fatigue with a maximum load selected, situation known as muscular failure. However, recent evidence has emerged that suggest caution in the prescription of training to failure in both, healthy and performance perspective. This review has addressed to this issue and made a collection of literature and a qualitative analysis of this topic. Final conclusion of this study suggest that implementation of the muscular failure resistance training is not recommended in subjects who trained with healthy goals, because it breaks the acceptable risk-benefit ratio in healthy …

P852Frequency and prognosis of type 2 myocardial infarction vs non ischemic myocardial injury: large observational study from an emergency department

2019

Abstract Background Type 2 Myocardial Infarction (T2MI), due to myocardial oxygen supply-demand mismatch in the absence of atherothrombosis and non-ischemic myocardial injury (NIMI), corresponding to troponin elevation without overt ischemia, are emerging concepts which are suspected to be common in patients hospitalized. However, their respective frequencies, risk profiles and short term prognosis in current routine clinical practice of emergency unit remains to be investigated. Methods Among the medical records of all the patients admitted from January 2014 to December 2016 in a university hospital emergency unit (n=82 543), patients with elevated troponin Ic (≥0.10μg/L) (n=4568) were sys…

Temporal Profile of Gene Induction After Venous Ischemia and Effects of Spreading Depression

2004

Occlusion of two adjacent cortical veins is followed by a widespread reduction of rCBF and the occurrence of small infarcts, which become larger if spreading depression (SD) occurs. The infarct matures over time with TUNEL-positive cells seen in the penumbra up to 4 days after vein occlusion. Caspase inhibition with zVAD.fmk reduces infarct size. Here, the time course of gene expression in the penumbra is compared to that induced by SD alone.

Triage assessment of registered nurses in the emergency department

2013

Standardised triage systems have been implemented in emergency departments (EDs) to improve the efficacy of assessment strategies as performed by registered nurses (RNs). However, the exact effect the standardised triage systems have on the decision-making process remains unclear.Aim: To evaluate decision making in the triage setting before and after implementation of the Medical Emergency Triage and Treatment System Adult in one hospital's ED.Methods: A descriptive intervention design with a quantitative approach. A total of 655 patients before and 413 patients after the intervention were included. A questionnaire was used to evaluate how the RNs assessed the patients before intervention w…
