Reconstruction of human subsistence and husbandry strategies from the Iberian Early Neolithic: A stable isotope approach
2018
Objectives The Early Neolithic involved an important social and economic shift that can be tested not only with the material culture, but also through biomolecular approaches. The Iberian Peninsula presents few Early Neolithic sites where fauna and humans can be analyzed together from an isotopic perspective. Here we present an isotopic study on the site of Cueva de Chaves as an example for understanding the dietary and economical changes that took place during Early Neolithic in Iberia. Material and methods Here we apply carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analysis to bone collagen from 4 humans and 64 faunal samples from 14 different species. The large dataset belongs to the same unique ch…
The necropolis of Ensisheim/Reguisheimerfeld (Haut-Rhin) : illustration of the Late Bronze Age funerary practices in Alsace
2007
In 2000, the preventive excavation of the Ensisheim/Reguisheimerfeld site (Haut-Rhin), carried out by the ANTEA SARL company, brought to light 87 funerary structures belonging to a cremation necropolis dating from the beginning of the Late Bronze Age (around 1350-1050 BC). Following study of the material, 3 successive chronological phases and a possible cultural "faciès" centred on the bend in the Rhine at Basel, Switzerland, were distinguished. The archaeo-anthropological study of the burnt bones revealed, among other things, the existence of a large number of multiple graves and of socially immature members of the society, phenomena rarely observed in the region. The analysis of the inter…
Sobolev homeomorphic extensions onto John domains
2020
Given the planar unit disk as the source and a Jordan domain as the target, we study the problem of extending a given boundary homeomorphism as a Sobolev homeomorphism. For general targets, this Sobolev variant of the classical Jordan-Schoenflies theorem may admit no solution - it is possible to have a boundary homeomorphism which admits a continuous $W^{1,2}$-extension but not even a homeomorphic $W^{1,1}$-extension. We prove that if the target is assumed to be a John disk, then any boundary homeomorphism from the unit circle admits a Sobolev homeomorphic extension for all exponents $p<2$. John disks, being one sided quasidisks, are of fundamental importance in Geometric Function Theory.
Estimating finite mixtures of semi-Markov chains: an application to the segmentation of temporal sensory data
2019
Summary In food science, it is of great interest to obtain information about the temporal perception of aliments to create new products, to modify existing products or more generally to understand the mechanisms of perception. Temporal dominance of sensations is a technique to measure temporal perception which consists in choosing sequentially attributes describing a food product over tasting. This work introduces new statistical models based on finite mixtures of semi-Markov chains to describe data collected with the temporal dominance of sensations protocol, allowing different temporal perceptions for a same product within a population. The identifiability of the parameters of such mixtur…
Tradicionālās kultūras elementi, t.sk. Gadskārtu ieražu svētki, sākumskolas un pamatskolas mācību priekšmetu programmās
2021

Bearing fault detection based on time-frequency representations of vibration signals
2015
To prevent failures of a rolling bearing in the gearbox drive system, acceleration sensors are used to detect fault-related signals of the bearing. It is a big challenge to observe and identify signals caused by bearing defects in the time domain or the frequency spectrum by a conventional Fourier analysis. The time-frequency representation of the fault-related signals implemented by the windowed Fourier transform is studied in this work. It is shown that the fault characteristic frequencies can be clearly identified in the time-frequency spectrum if a fault occurs in the bearing of the gearbox at different speeds. Otherwise, the shaft frequency and its multiples are the main harmonics in t…
Abbagli e abusi: esperienze plurime di violenza di prossimità fra le migranti in Sicilia
2018
The authors analyse some of the role positions found in gender dynamics among migrants, throwing light on possible processes by which mechanisms of submission to and normalisation of gender violence seem to have been internalised by these victims of proxemic violence, emphasising the viscous links existing between vulnerability and resilience.
Relazioni di genere e forme di dominio simbolico. Il caso della professione dell'assistente sociale
2019
The article highlights how the cultural models currently prevalent in some professional contexts in Italy - such as that of social workers - are still influenced by "male domination" (Bourdieu 1998). It develops a gender segregation that reproduces inequalities and asymmetries also in professional contexts traditionally female and imposes professional models based on "gender neutrality", which for the most part disregard relational and communicative skills fundamental in the care professions.
Classifying DME vs Normal SD-OCT volumes: A review
2016
International audience; This article reviews the current state of automatic classification methodologies to identify Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) versus normal subjects based on Spectral Domain OCT (SD-OCT) data. Addressing this classification problem has valuable interest since early detection and treatment of DME play a major role to prevent eye adverse effects such as blindness. The main contribution of this article is to cover the lack of a public dataset and benchmark suited for classifying DME and normal SD-OCT volumes, providing our own implementation of the most relevant methodologies in the literature. Subsequently, 6 different methods were implemented and evaluated using this comm…
