Approximate Matching over Biological RDF Graphs
2012
In the last few years, the amount of biological interaction data discovered and stored in public databases (e.g., KEGG [2]) considerably increased. To this aim, RDF is a powerful representation for interactions (or pathways), since they can be modeled as directed graphs, often referred to as biological networks, where nodes represent cellular components and the (labeled or unlabeled) edges correspond to interactions among components. Often for a given organism some components are known to be linked by well studied interactions. Such groups of components are called modules and they can be represented by sub-graphs in the corresponding biological network model. At today, one of the most impor…
A Representation of Relational Systems
2003
In this paper elements of a theory of multistructures are formulated. The theory of multistructures is used to define a binary representation of relational systems.
Gibbs equation in the nonlinear nonequilibrium thermodynamics of dilute nonviscous gases
2003
AbstractThis paper deals with the derivation of the Gibbs equation for a nonviscous gas in the presence of heat flux. The analysis aims to shed some light on the physical interpretation of thermodynamic potentials far from equilibrium. Two different definitions for the chemical potential and thermodynamic pressure far from equilibrium are introduced: nonequilibrium chemical potential and nonequilibrium thermodynamic pressure at constant heat flux q and nonequilibrium chemical potential and nonequilibrium thermodynamic pressure at constant J = Vq, where V is the specific volume.
Spatial joins
2019
The spatial join is a popular operation in spatial database systems and its evaluation is a well-studied problem. This paper reviews research and recent trends on spatial join evaluation. The complexity of different data types, the consideration of different join predicates, the use of modern commodity hardware, and support for parallel processing open the road to a number of interesting directions for future research, some of which we outline in the paper.
Unveiling distribution patterns of freshwater phytoplankton by a next generation sequencing based approach.
2012
The recognition and discrimination of phytoplankton species is one of the foundations of freshwater biodiversity research and environmental monitoring. This step is frequently a bottleneck in the analytical chain from sampling to data analysis and subsequent environmental status evaluation. Here we present phytoplankton diversity data from 49 lakes including three seasonal surveys assessed by next generation sequencing (NGS) of 16S ribosomal RNA chloroplast and cyanobacterial gene amplicons and also compare part of these datasets with identification based on morphology. Direct comparison of NGS to microscopic data from three time-series showed that NGS was able to capture the seasonality in…

Binding, Interaction, and Organization of Proteins with Lipid Model Membranes
1991
Model membrane systems are used to investigate protein recognition and binding at interfaces. Fluorescence microscopy results are presented for interactions of the proteins, phospholipase A2 and antifluorescyl IgG, at lipid monolayer interfaces. Total internal reflection fluorescence measurements are used to quantify albumin and IgG adsorption to supported lipid monolayers.
Indexing Method for Transitive Relationships of Product Information
2008
To successfully use a relational database management system (RDBMS) as a repository for product information, the RDBMS must efficiently process and properly answer ontological queries. The key to processing the ontological queries is whether the various semantic relationships among the concepts of the product ontology are likewise well-processed. In particular, the transitive relationships (e.g., is-a, component-of relationships) such as ancestors-descendents, parents-children, and taxonomy of products must be processed successfully. We propose an efficient index using a numbering scheme (labeling scheme) to process queries over transitive relationships. (This paper is an extended version o…
Syntheses and properties of some exo,exo-bis(isodicyclopentadienyl)titanium low-valent complexes
2002
Abstract The paramagnetic compounds exo,exo-bis(η5-isodicyclopentadienyl)chlorotitanium(III) (3) and its analogue with trimethylsilyl-substituted isodicyclopentadienide (isodiCp) ligand (4), and the similar pair of diamagnetic exo,exo-bis(isodicyclopentadienyl)[η2-bis(trimethylsilyl)ethyne]titanium(II) complexes 5 and 6 were obtained by common reduction procedures from exo,exo-bis(isodicyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV) dichloride (1) and exo,exo-bis[η5-2-(trimethylsilyl)isodicyclopentadienyl]titanium(IV) dichloride (2), respectively. As indicated by ESR spectroscopy compound 3 is a dimer in the solid state and in frozen toluene glass but monomeric in toluene solution. Compound 4 is monomeric in…
Terminología y traducción económica francés-español: evaluación de recursos terminológicos en el ámbito contable
2014
The aim of this paper is to evaluate a series of terminology resources and determine their suitability to the practice of French-Spanish translation of accounting documents. First we identify the terminology needs of a specific group of translator trainees when facing business translation, as well as the resources they use particularly when translating annual accounts. Then, we select various terminology resources used in this context and evaluate them according to their needs. The results suggest the development of a French-Spanish dictionary of accounting terms adapted to the terminology needs of the practice of translation in this area.
