Mixing dynamics in uncovered unbaffled stirred tanks
2014
Abstract The present work is aimed at providing experimental information on mixing rates in an unbaffled vessel under free surface vortexing conditions. The planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) technique was used for measuring the dispersion dynamics of a passive tracer over a vertical section of the vessel. In agreement with the quite scant literature information available for these systems, results confirm the existence of two well defined, partially segregated, zones that give rise to a double mixing dynamics behavior. A suitable mixing time definition is proposed and applied to a number of experimental runs with different stirrer geometries and agitation speeds. Results confirm that…
Awt (Associative writing tool)
2001
In this paper a sketch of a tool for supporting writing process is discussed as an example of an application using GZigZag framework. GZigZag as well as Ted Nelson's ZigZag metastructure are introduced in a nutshell.
STEAM Practices to Explore Ancient Architectures Using Augmented Reality and 3D Printing with GeoGebra
2021
Abstract In this study, we develop mathematical educational practices for students to explore ancient buildings using GeoGebra, Augmented Reality and 3D printing. It is an interdisciplinary approach, intertwining history, culture, mathematics, and engineering. For example, the 3D modelling of Cheomseongdae in Korea and the Temple of Dendera in Egypt can enable students to practice a multimodal set of traditional and innovative learning approaches. Students might use their mathematical knowledge to reflect on architectural and cultural history in a modeling task.
Intelligent robotic cell for Trencad/spl inodot//spl acute/s mosaics manufacturing
2005
The purpose of this paper is the description of an application for the complete automation of a mosaics manufacturing process with irregular random pieces, so called trencad/spl inodot//spl acute/s. An intelligent robotic cell has been implemented by using intelligent methods and pattern recognition techniques to assemble unpredictable objects in an autonomous manner.
Two photogrammetric methods for measuring flat elements in buildings under construction
2008
Usually, determining the dimensions of flat surfaces in buildings under construction, such as window cavities and facade coating materials, are done by direct measuring methods using tapes and plummets. Sometimes these methods suppose a slow and highly risky work for operators. This research proposes the substitution of these procedures by indirect methods based on close range photogrammetry and laser distance measurement. First, we show the design, construction and calibration of a system composed by a digital camera and a lasermeter mounted on a support with multiple turning positions. Next, two different facade element measuring methodologies are shown. The first method is based on takin…
The Continuous Extrusion Process CONFORM: a full 3D Thermal and Mechanical Analysis
2000
The principle of the Conform extrusion process is based on the action of a rotating wheel that drags and push the feed material by means of the frictional force existing between them. The Conform process has several advantages over the traditional extrusion processes. The preheating phase may be neglected, so that furnaces for heating are not necessary; furthermore, the product is continuous and welding phase of the billets is not required. The influence of three operative parameters, die geometry, velocity and die cooling rate, has been analysed in this paper by means of an “outranking approach” able to give precious indications for the assessment of the process.
Parametric Modeling CAD-CAM of the Ankle and Pathological Related Situations
2014
It is primary object of the present study to create a 3D model of the human ankle and an axis system that will show the position the tibia and the foot on a healthy subject. Regarding this scope of the study, the first step in obtaining the 3D model of the bones is scanning. The graphic modeling software used is Catia V5 R20. It is another object of the present study to create an axis system that will be very easy to maneuver and on which we can show different pathological situations, not only on a healthy subject, creating their assembly reference systems considering the mechanical and anatomical axes existing and creating prerequisites for the study of different possible pathological situ…
General model for boring tool optimization
2016
Optimizing a tool (and therefore those for boring) consist in improving its performance through maximizing the objective functions chosen by the designer and/or by user. In order to define and to implement the proposed objective functions, contribute numerous features and performance required by tool users. Incorporation of new features makes the cutting tool to be competitive in the market and to meet user requirements.
Theoretical-Applicative Research on Design and Implementation of a Special Dynamometer
2013
The topic of he present paper is taken from the Automotive Systems Nurnberg, Sibiu. It refers to the product automatic gear box which equips a few FORD models, the specific part for which the research was developed being a auto screwing bolt for plastic which raises problems at the robotized screwing because of the poor knowledge of the accurate value of the axial force and the necessary torque.
Numerical and experimental analysis of load capacity of pressure vessels for large deformations
1991
Abstract A method of theoretical and experimental investigations of large deformations and load capacity of pressure vessels has been proposed. Algorithms and programs for numerical analysis (with the finite element method) of spatial stress and strain state and load capacity have been worked out according to the Prandtl-Reuss theory of plastic flow. Loading in the vessel was realized in an incremental way. The loading process was continued up to the moment when the maximum loading was obtained (i.e. the moment when state of equilibrium of the vessel was not possible). It has been found that in thin-walled circular vessels with rigid bottoms, when a ratio of length to their diameter is less…
