Transformando las prácticas de evaluación en las agencias de innovación para fomentar transiciones hacia la sostenibilidad
2019
The aim of the study is to identify different styles and practices for evaluation of innovation policies based on different orientations, focusing on the case of the paradigm of transformative change to foster transitions towards sustainability, and the problems associated with its application. The study is exploratory, and it uses public funding agencies for innovation as strategic research settings. Based on the information provided by the experience of an international consortium participated by funding agencies from different countries, the main concepts and problems presented in the theoretical debate are illustrated. Finally, the main contributions of the study to the theory and pract…
A new heterogeneous and reconfigurable architecture for image analysis
1993
In the paper a new architecture for image analysis: HERMIA (Heterogeneous and Reconfigurable Machine for Image Analysis) is presented. It has bt:en developed at the University of Palermo, inside the Progetto Finalizzato of the ltalian Council of Researches (CNR): Sistemi informatici e Calcolo Parallelo. The architecture of the HERMIA-machine is reconfigurable, moreover the integration of heterogeneous module, oriented to the solution of specific problems, allows to salve complex problems by search of optimal strategies. Signa! processing units allows the user to handle and integrate multi-sensors signals (from video, scanner, music recorder). Here the generai architecture, the hardware impl…
Fast narrowing-driven partial evaluation for inductively sequential programs
2005
Narrowing-driven partial evaluation is a powerful technique for the specialization of (first-order) functional and functional logic programs. However, although it gives good results on small programs, it does not scale up well to realistic problems (e.g., interpreter specialization). In this work, we introduce a faster partial evaluation scheme by ensuring the termination of the process offline . For this purpose, we first characterize a class of programs which are quasi-terminating , i.e., the computations performed with needed narrowing—the symbolic computation mechanism of narrowing-driven partial evaluation—only contain finitely many different terms (and, thus, partial evaluation termi…
: Influence of tenth graders' personal school experiences on their achievement and curriculum choices
2005
This study shows that various dimensions of students' school experiences (namely academic self-evaluation and their attitude towards certain subjects) have a significant influence on their academic achievement (French and Mathematics), as well as on their curriculum choices. The results should encourage teachers and counsellors to take into account students' personal biases when helping them to either construct academic projects or to avoid academic failure.
Technical‐economic evaluation of the effectiveness of measures applied to the artificial lighting system of a school
2021
Ensuring optimum interior lighting is a topic of great importance, as this influences not only the well-being of users but also the optimal performance of visual tasks. Lighting can be natural, but if not sufficient, it can be compensated with artificial lighting. This study highlights a methodology for designing a new lighting system that takes into account both technical and economic aspects. The method was applied to an existing school located in southern Italy, in which the electricity consumption is related to the current lighting system. The school is chosen as being representative of the construction type and layout of many local schools. In addition, the coexistence of several visua…
Facilitators and Barriers to the Sustainability of a School-Based Bullying Prevention Program.
2022
AbstractThe long-term sustainment of bullying prevention programs has rarely been investigated. This study addresses this gap by identifying facilitators and barriers to the systematic implementation of KiVa antibullying program in real-life conditions, after an evaluation trial. The study is based on focus group interviews with teachers from 15 Finnish primary schools implementing the KiVa program. The schools were selected based on the annual KiVa survey data, with the criteria of long-term involvement in delivering the program and reaching successful outcomes in terms of decreasing trends in bullying and victimization. By utilizing thematic analysis, we identified program-related, organi…
The development of secondary students’ feedback literacy: Peer assessment as an intervention
2020
A growing body of research has recognized the importance of students’ having active roles in feedback processes. Feedback literacy refers to students’ understandings of and participation in feedback processes, and research on students’ feedback literacy has so far focused on higher education; secondary schools have not received attention. This case study investigates secondary students’ feedback literacy and its development in the context of formative peer assessment. From various data sources, three categories of students’ feedback literacy were identified, and criteria for the levels of literacy in each category were created. The criteria were used in the coding of seventh- and eighth-gra…
Discursive Strategies in the Language of Foreign Policy. The Semantics and the Appraisal of Security
2016
As globalization has produced more complex interconnections among states, and borders have become more permeable, foreign policy practitioners deal with issues directly affecting the lives of individuals. From terrorism to climate change, from immigration to human rights, the term security appears in all of them. By combining different approaches, mainly Corpus Linguistics and Appraisal Theory, this book provides insights into the linguistic features of the discourse of security of British foreign ministers from a phraseological perspective. Through the interrogation of a corpus of political speeches, the study discloses those discursive strategies by which speakers and writers reveal impli…
Relationships between core self-evaluation, leader empowering behavior, and job security among Jordan University Hospital nurses
2021
Nurses are facing real stressors due to patients’ needs and leaders’ demands. The aim of this study is to explore the perceived level of core self-evaluation (CSE), leader empowering behavior (LEB), and job security among Jordan University Hospital nurses in Amman, the capital of Jordan. Furthermore, it investigates the relationship between the selected variables. Differences of gender, educational level, experience, and site of work are also examined with job security. Moreover, it evaluates the contribution of CSE, LEB, gender, educational level, experience, and site of work in predicting job security among Jordan University Hospital nurses. A descriptive cross-sectional design was adopte…
