Dual Diagnostic Role of 123I-MIBG Scintigraphy in Inverted-Takotsubo Pattern Cardiomyopathy

We highlight the dual role of I-MIBG scintigraphy in inverted-Takotsubo pattern cardiomyopathy, the diagnosis of which is sometimes challenging: Firstly, I-MIBG scintigraphy can show myocardial sympathetic dysfunction (low I-MIBG uptake) in the hypokinetic basal segments, sparing the left ventricle apex. It is helpful in the imaging diagnosis of inverted-Takotsubo pattern cardiomyopathy and confirms that acute dysfunction of myocardial sympathetic nerve endings occurs with this cardiomyopathy. The telencephalic dopamine innervations contribute to the modulation of cognitive processing. However, the relationship between cognitive effects of D(2/3)-receptor antagonism and dopamine transmission is not described in healthy subjects. We therefore tested effects of acute haloperidol (5 mg/d over 3 days) on continuous performance task (CPT) performance and 6-[(18)F]-fluoro-l-DOPA (FDOPA) PET parameters. Background: Purpose of this study was to investigate the functional relationship between electroencephalographic (EEG) alpha power and cerebral glucose metabolism before and after pharmacological alpha suppression by lorazepam. Methods: Ten healthy male volunteers were examined undergoing two F18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) scans with simultaneous EEG recording: 1× placebo, 1× lorazepam. Here, we examined facial electromyographic (EMG) (zygomaticus and corrugator muscle activity), autonomic (skin conductance and heart rate) and subjective measures of affective valence and arousal in patient TG, a 30 year-old man with left anterior mediotemporal and left orbitofrontal lesions resulting from a traumatic brain injury. Increased amplitudes of distortion product otoacoustic emissions in patients with unilateral acoustic neuroma.

We present a case series of 4 patients with a unilateral acoustic neuroma and increased amplitudes of the distortion products of otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) at the low- and middle- frequency bandwidth on the involved side compared to the uninvolved side despite a 28-dB hearing level (HL) worse (compared to the uninvolved side) pure-tone hearing threshold average for standard audiometric frequencies between 1 and 6 kHz at the involved side. Modulation of [18F]fluorodopa (FDOPA) kinetics in the brain of healthy volunteers after acute haloperidol challenge.

In animal studies, acute antipsychotic treatment was shown to enhance striatal DOPA-decarboxylase (DDC) activity. However, this phenomenon has not been demonstrated in humans by positron emission tomography (PET). Therefore, we investigated acute haloperidol effects on DDC activity in humans using [18F]fluorodopa (FDOPA) PET. Evoked otoacoustic emissions and pure tone threshold audiometry in patients receiving cisplatinum therapy.

Eight children and young adults with cancer were evaluated serially using pure tone audiometry as well as registration of click-evoked otoacoustic emissions (EOAE) 1 day prior to therapy as well as after various numbers of doses of cisplatinum. A reduction of EOAE-amplitudes following cisplatinum therapy was observed in all patients. This reduction tended to recover after the end of cisplatinum administration. Since EOAE are believed to result from cochlear bio-mechanical processes, the reduced emissions are interpreted as signs of cochlear dysfunction.
