Acute appendicitis and endometriosis: Retrospective analysis in emergency setting

Introduction. The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of appendiceal and pelvic endometriosis in a population with diagnosis of acute appendicitis in an emergency setting. Materials and methods. We carried out a retrospective study in the period between January 2010 and October 2013. We performed 429 appendectomy including 233 in female subjects (54.3%). In all patients of childbearing age, we did β-hCG urine test to rule out the presence of an extra-uterine pregnancy. Results. 127 of 233 patients received a laparoscopic approach (54.5%). Introduction. Endometriosis has been described as the presence of endometrial tissue outside uterine cavity. Scar endometriosis (SE) is a rare disease reported in 0.03-1.08% of women following gynaecologic surgery. In our retrospective observational cohort study we studied anamnesis, symptoms, surgical procedures and outcomes linked to scar endometriosis in our medical experience from 2004 to 2018. Methods. It is well established that a large amount of natural and man-made chemicals are present in the en- vironment and both humans and animals are exposed to them. Dioxin and dioxin-like com- pounds have long biological half-life, can accu- mulate within the organism and could negative- ly affect several physiological processes. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the possible relationship between these chemicals and the pathogenesis of en- dometriosis.

BACKGROUND: We investigated the feasibility and advantages of introducing Laparoscopic Neuro-Navigation (LANN) into the field of laparoscopic gynecologic radical pelvic surgery. STUDY DESIGN: In a prospective pilot study, 261 consecutive patients underwent laparoscopic radical pelvic surgery for cervical cancer or deep infiltrating endometriosis of the parametria. During the procedure, dissection and electrostimulation, and consequently, sparing of the pelvic parasympathetic nerves by transection of the parametria, were performed.
