The excellent biocompatibility and negligible immune response of the titanium heterometallic MOF MUV-10

2021

The Ti-Ca heterometallic MOF MUV-10 exhibits good dispersibility in phosphate buffer and low phosphate-induced degradation in comparison to other MOF systems. It induces no cytotoxicity towards cells of the immune system and no inmune response, making it an attractive candidate for biomedical applications and demonstrating its safe use for other applications.

Biological indices applied to benthic macroinvertebrates at reference conditions of mountain streams in two ecoregions (Poland, the Slovak Republic)

2013

The study was carried out from 2007 to 2010 in two ecoregions: the Carpathians and the Central Highlands. The objectives of our survey were to test the existing biological index metric based on benthic macroinvertebrates at reference conditions in the high- and mid-altitude mountain streams of two ecoregions according to the requirements of the EU WFD and to determine which environmental factors influence the distribution of benthic macroinvertebrates. Our results revealed statistically significant differences in the values of the physical and chemical parameters of water as well as the mean values of metrics between the types of streams at the sampling sites. RDA analysis showed that the t…

Ab initio computational study on the lattice thermal conductivity of Zintl clathrates [Si19P4]Cl4 and Na4[Al4Si19]

2016

The lattice thermal conductivity of silicon clathrate framework Si23 and two Zintl clathrates, [Si19P4]Cl4 and Na4[Al4Si19], is investigated by using an iterative solution of the linearized Boltzmann transport equation in conjunction with ab initio lattice dynamical techniques. At 300 K, the lattice thermal conductivities for Si23, [Si19P4]Cl4, and Na4[Al4Si19] were found to be 43 W/(m K), 25 W/(m K), and 2 W/(m K), respectively. In the case of Na4[Al4Si19], the order-of-magnitude reduction in the lattice thermal conductivity was found to be mostly due to relaxation times and group velocities differing from Si23 and [Si19P4]Cl4. The difference in the relaxation times and group velocities ar…

La aportación de las agrupaciones musicales escolares a la sociedad

2014

ABSTRACT We know that from a scientific perspective, activating certain musical stimuli produces brain activation. With the school, musical ensembles required previously activated the techniques of hearing and interpretation of individually to achieve the group, motor, perceptual, cognitive skills and affective processes enable and socialization. In this way, the attention to diversity would not be excluded. Music, in short, favors the development of the person in all its dimensions, which results in an improvement of the quality of life and a breakthrough to personal, family, school, clinical and social level. The musical activity is as an introduction into the irreplaceable cultural frame…

Making progress against cancer in Europe in 2008.

2008

Europe is facing a cancer epidemic, with rapidly increasing incidence rates. Population growth and ageing will further increase the annual number of new patients with cancer. Cancer is a huge and growing contributor to the burden of disease and premature death within the European Union (EU). One in four of all deaths in the EU is attributable to cancer, and in the age range 45-64 years, the figure is almost one in two deaths. The 27 EU Member States differ greatly in cancer incidence, mortality and survival. Yet at least one-third of the cancer burden is preventable and a further third can be detected early and treated effectively, even on the basis of existing knowledge. "Cancer", however,…

Topological Decompositions of the Pauli Group and their Influence on Dynamical Systems

2021

In the present paper we show that it is possible to obtain the well known Pauli group $P=\langle X,Y,Z \ | \ X^2=Y^2=Z^2=1, (YZ)^4=(ZX)^4=(XY)^4=1 \rangle $ of order $16$ as an appropriate quotient group of two distinct spaces of orbits of the three dimensional sphere $S^3$. The first of these spaces of orbits is realized via an action of the quaternion group $Q_8$ on $S^3$; the second one via an action of the cyclic group of order four $\mathbb{Z}(4)$ on $S^3$. We deduce a result of decomposition of $P$ of topological nature and then we find, in connection with the theory of pseudo-fermions, a possible physical interpretation of this decomposition.

2020 Roadmap on two-dimensional nanomaterials for environmental catalysis

2019

Abstract Environmental catalysis has drawn a great deal of attention due to its clean ways to produce useful chemicals or carry out some chemical processes. Photocatalysis and electrocatalysis play important roles in these fields. They can decompose and remove organic pollutants from the aqueous environment, and prepare some fine chemicals. Moreover, they also can carry out some important reactions, such as O2 reduction reaction (ORR), O2 evolution reaction (OER), H2 evolution reaction (HER), CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), and N2 fixation (NRR). For catalytic reactions, it is the key to develop high-performance catalysts to meet the demand for targeted reactions. In recent years, two-dimen…
