'Big Brother' Germany and Spain: a Linguistic Characterization from a Theory of Register
2020
Prognostic indicators in pediatric clinically isolated syndrome
2017
To assess prognostic factors for a second clinical attack and a first disability worsening event in pediatric clinically isolated syndrome (pCIS) suggestive of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients. Objective: To assess prognostic factors for a second clinical attack and a first disability-worsening event in pediatric clinically isolated syndrome (pCIS) suggestive of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Methods: A cohort of 770 pCIS patients was followed up for at least 10 years. Cox proportional hazard models and Recursive Partitioning and Amalgamation (RECPAM) tree-regression were used to analyze data. Results: In pCIS, female sex and a multifocal onset were risk factors for a second clinical att…
European Economic Ethics Research
2020
The purpose of the European Economic Community’s founders was not only ‘mercantilist’, but ‘economic’, in the broader sense of the term ‘economics’. If there has been a specific model of Europe, it has been the social market economy. But the crisis of the welfare state has raised doubts about key features of that model. Does Europe have anything particular to offer in the economic realm? The approaches of economic ethics that have been developed in Europe have a lot to say in the formation of a ‘Euroethos’. The article tries to show the main European approaches and to delineate the traits of a European proposal.
Socs3 induction by PPARγ restrains cancer-promoting inflammation
2013
The presence of proinflammatory cytokines in the tumor microenvironment can support further growth of established cancers. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPARγ) ligand, has been shown to suppress inflammation and limit tumor progression in vivo. Are the anticancer properties of DHA relying on its ability to prevent inflammation? If so, what are the molecular links between the anti-inflammatory properties of DHA and its anticancer effects? DHA is an n-3 polyinsaturated fatty acid mainly found in fish oil that was shown to contribute to inflammation resolution by preventing the release of proinflammatory mediators in vivo.1 DHA has also been as…
Semi-blind Independent Component Analysis of functional MRI elicited by continuous listening to music
2013
This study presents a method to analyze blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (tMRI) signals associated with listening to continuous music. Semi-blind independent component analysis (ICA) was applied to decompose the tMRI data to source level activation maps and their respective temporal courses. The unmixing matrix in the source separation process of ICA was constrained by a variety of acoustic features derived from the piece of music used as the stimulus in the experiment. This allowed more stable estimation and extraction of more activation maps of interest compared to conventional ICA methods.

Analysis of Open Innovation Intermediaries Platforms by Considering the Smart Service System Perspective
2015
Abstract Open Innovation and Services Science are two distinct paradigms that share some principles 0. While some attempts to investigate open innovation according to a service science perspective exist, there is currently a gap with regards to the analysis of intermediaries of open innovation according to a service science perspective and even more regarding to recent trends about smart service system. This paper aims to fill this gap and, to this purpose, we present two interesting and original results. After an analysis of the key features of Open Innovation Intermediaries, we discuss a characterization of these intermediaries as service systems by mapping their features on the ten funda…
Modifications over time of volatile compounds in coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.)
2007
Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is an annual strongly-smelling herb belonging to the family Apiaceae, which is cultivated all over the world for its aromatic fruits (“seeds”) and, in many Asiatic and South American countries, for its green leaves. The aromatic features of leaves and fruits are sharply different, and the strong smell coming from leaves (many times referred to as a “bug” scent) is not always pleasant to many consumers from western countries. In our work, one Coriander small-seeded biotype has been grown in plastic covered greenhouses, and at given time intervals samples of leaves, flowers and fruits have been analyzed by means of HS-SPME and GC-MS to study the evolution ove…
Integrating multiple stressors in aquaculture to build the blue growth in a changing sea
2017
Fisheries currently represent the main source of animal protein intake worldwide, although catches of most commercial species are at or beyond maximum sustainable yields. Increasing production would require an excess of exploitation levels and aquaculture is expected to become crucial in sustaining a growing seafood demand. Nonetheless, many threats are expected to affect aquaculture and the increased production must evolve in a way that minimizes environmental and socio-economic impacts. The claimed sustainable development of human activities at sea (blue growth and economy) seeks for new joint analyses and solutions at (trans-)national systemic level should be planned and applied. To meet…
Hatching Success of Caretta caretta on a Mediterranean Volcanic Beach: Impacts from Environmental Parameters and Substrate Composition
2022
New data on the potential impact of environmental parameters and the mineralogical nature of the substrate on the hatching success of the loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta on a volcanic beach on Linosa Island in the central Mediterranean Sea are reported. During 2 years of investigation (2018-19), five nests were observed. The temperature and moisture of the nests were determined along with the grain size and mineralogical nature of the substrate. The temperature values of the nests recorded at depths of 5 and 35 cm showed an average temperature incubation of 32.2°C ± 1.4°C and 32.8°C ± 1.6°C, respectively, with peaks close to 37°C. The sedimentological analysis carried out on two cores…
