Atomic Layer Deposition of LiF Thin Films from Lithd, Mg(thd)2, and TiF4 Precursors
2013
Lithium fluoride is an interesting material because of its low refractive index and large band gap. Previously LiF thin films have been deposited mostly by physical methods. In this study a new way of depositing thin films of LiF using atomic layer deposition (ALD) is presented. Mg(thd)2, TiF4 and Lithd were used as precursors, and they produced crystalline LiF at a temperature range of 300–350 °C. The films were studied by UV–vis spectrometry, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis (ToF-ERDA), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). In addition, film adhesion was t…
Defect-related photoluminescence and photoluminescence excitation as a method to study the excitonic bandgap of AlN epitaxial layers: Experimental an…
2020
We report defect-related photoluminescence (PL) and its vacuum ultraviolet photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra of aluminum nitride layers with various layer thicknesses and dislocation densities grown on two different substrates: sapphire and silicon. The defect-related transitions have been distinguished and examined in the emission and excitation spectra investigated under synchrotron radiation. The broad PL bands of two defect levels in the AlN were detected at around 3 eV and 4 eV. In the PLE spectra of these bands, a sharp excitonic peak originating most probably from the A-exciton of AlN was clearly visible. Taking into account the exciton binding energy, the measurements allow…
Structural, electronic and energetic effects in heterocyclic fluorene derivatives fused with a fulvene unit
2019
Abstract A set of 36 heterocyclic (B, N and O) fluorene (C) derivatives fused in nine ways with fulvene ring have been analyzed by means of different local aromaticity criteria. Molecular geometry of analyzed compounds were optimized at B3LYP/6-311++G(2d,2p) level of theory. The evaluation of the local aromaticity has been carried out through the use of the geometry-based harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) and the magnetism-based zz‐component of the nucleus independent chemical shifts calculated 1 A above the ring center (NICS1zz) indices as well as one aromaticity index derived from the Quantum Theory Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM), i.e. the para-delocalization index (PDI). Additi…
Tuning the Electronic Properties of Nonplanar exTTF-Based Push–Pull Chromophores by Aryl Substitution
2012
International audience; A new family ofπ-extended tetrathiafulvalene (exTTF) donor−acceptorchromophores has been synthesized by [2 + 2] cycloaddition of TCNE with exTTF-substituted alkynes and subsequent cycloreversion. X-ray data and theoretical calculations, performed at the B3LYP/6-31G**level, show that the new chromophores exhibit highlydistorted nonplanar molecular structures with largely twisted 1,1,4,4-tetracyanobuta-1,3-diene (TCBD) units. The electronic and optical properties, investigated by UV/visspectroscopy and electrochemical measurements, are significantly modified when theTCBD acceptor unit is substituted with a donor phenyl group, which increases the twistingof the TCBD unit…
A Generalized Semiempirical Approach to the Modeling of the Optical Band Gap of Ternary Al-(Ga, Nb, Ta, W) Oxides Containing Different Alumina Polymo…
2021
A generalization of the modeling equation of optical band gap values for ternary oxides, as a function of cationic ratio composition, is carried out based on the semiempirical correlation between the differences in the electronegativity of oxygen and the average cationic electronegativity proposed some years ago. In this work, a novel approach is suggested to account for the differences in the band gap values of the different polymorphs of binary oxides as well as for ternary oxides existing in different crystalline structures. A preliminary test on the validity of the proposed modeling equations has been carried out by using the numerous experimental data pertaining to alumina and gallia p…
Collating science-based evidence to inform public opinion on the environmental effects of marine drilling platforms in the Mediterranean Sea.
2017
Abstract The use of rigorous methodologies to assess environmental, social and health impacts of specific interventions is crucial to disentangle the various components of environmental questions and to inform public opinion. The power of systematic maps relies on the capacity to summarise and organise the areas or relationships most studied, and to highlight key gaps in the evidence base. The recent Italian technical referendum (2016) – a public consultation inviting people to express their opinion by voting to change the rules on the length of licence duration and the decommissioning of offshore oil and gas platform drilling licences – inspired the creation of a systematic map of evidence…
The DNA barcoding of Mediterranean combtooth blennies suggests the paraphyly of some taxa (Perciformes, Blenniidae)
2019
A dataset including novel and publicly available mtDNA COI sequences of 14 Mediterranean combtooth blenny species belonging to nine genera was assembled in order to provide a reference dataset for DNA barcoding studies. Some inconsistencies in the current taxonomy of some genera were observed. In particular, the monophyly of the genera Parablennius and Salaria is not supported by the present dataset and the absence of reciprocal monophyly between the morphospecies Salaria basilisca and S. pavo questions their status and stresses the need of a revision of the genus Salaria.
Image retrieval system for citizen services using penalized logistic regression models
2020
This paper describes a procedure to deal with large image collections obtained by smart city services based on interaction with citizens providing pictures. The semantic gap between the low-level image features and represented concepts and situations has been addressed using image retrieval techniques. A relevance feedback procedure is proposed for Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) based on the modelling of user responses. One of the novelties of the proposal is that the feedback learning procedure can use the information that citizens themselves can provide when using these services. The proposed algorithm considers the probability of an image belonging to the set of those sought by the …
Assessing the influence of fieldshaper material on magnetic pulse welded interface of Al/Cu joints
2019
Abstract Fieldshaper (FS) is a widely used component in magnetic pulse forming and welding to improve the efficiency of the process. It enables to increase the magnetic pressure experienced by the workpieces during forming and welding. Recent developments in this subject focuses to increase the life time of the fieldshaper and to improve the efficiency by introducing shape optimized designs. In this study, we compare the efficiency of four fieldshapers made of Cuprofor, Siclanic, CuBe2 and Steel. The main focus is given to the effect of material properties while the same geometry was considered for those four fieldshapers. The same welding conditions (discharge voltage of 6kV and air gap of…
Laser-assisted narrow gap arc welding of an 18MND5 steel thick plate
2020
Abstract Narrow gap arc welding is a common solution for the welding of thick structures. In this study, a defocused laser beam is used to pre-melt the narrow gap walls in front of an arc-welding bath. Such a welding configuration can be referred to a hybrid welding configuration. In the present work, a particular attention is given to evaluation of the interaction between an arc plasma and a defocused laser beam. High-speed imaging of the metal transfer through arc plasma is achieved thanks to a diode laser illumination system. Electrical arc parameters are logged, synchronously, in order to perform a correlation analysis and to make a diagnosis of the interaction level between laser beam …
