Slowing down in the three-dimensional three-state Potts glass with nearest neighbor exchange : A Monte Carlo study

1998

,Static and dynamic properties of the Potts model on the simple cubic lattice with nearest neighbor ±Ĵ-interaction are obtained from Monte Carlo simulations in a temperature range where full thermal equilibrium still can be achieved (T/Ĵ ≥ 0.6). For a lattice size L = 16, in this range finite size effects are still negligible, but the data for the spin glass susceptibility agree with previous extrapolations based on finite size scaling of very small lattices. While the static properties are compatible with a zero temperature transition, they certainly do not prove it. Unlike the Ising spin glass, the decay of the time-dependent order parameter is compatible with a simple Kohlrausch function…

Numerical simulations and exactly soluble spin-glass models.

1985

Some general arguments based on recent numerical work are presented to explain the different behavior of short-range, random-bond and long-range, random-site spin glasses. We then analyze an exactly soluble spin-glass model, which may be solved without replicas, and show that, except for the absence of microscopic metastable states, its main features are consistent with the long-range picture.

Event-Driven Simulation of the Dynamics of Hard Ellipsoids

2008

We introduce a novel algorithm to perform event-driven simulations of hard rigid bodies of arbitrary shape, that relies on the evaluation of the geometric distance. In the case of a monodisperse system of uniaxial hard ellipsoids,we perform molecular dynamics simulations varying the aspect-ratio X0 and the packing fraction phi. We evaluate the translational Dtrans and the rotational Drot diffusion coefficient and the associated isodiffusivity lines in the phi-X0 plane. We observe a decoupling of the translational and rotational dynamics which generates an almost perpendicular crossing of the Dtrans and Drot isodiffusivity lines. While the self intermediate scattering function exhibits stret…

Dynamic Phase Diagram of the REM

2019

International audience; By studying the two-time overlap correlation function, we give a comprehensive analysis of the phase diagram of the Random Hopping Dynamics of the Random Energy Model (REM) on time-scales that are exponential in the volume. These results are derived from the convergence properties of the clock process associated to the dynamics and fine properties of the simple random walk in the $n$-dimensional discrete cube.

Small-$x$ Physics in the Dipole Picture at NLO Accuracy

2018

International audience; We review recent progress in NLO calculations for dilute-dense processes in the CGC picture. In particular, we focus here on recent steps in understanding high energy renormalization group evolution (BK/JIMWLK), the total DIS cross section at small x and forward particle production in proton-nucleus collisions at next-to-leading order.

Thermalization in the initial stage of heavy ion collisions

2017

The high density non-abelian matter produced in heavy ion collisions is extremely anisotropic. Prethermal dynamics for the anisotropic and weakly coupled matter is discussed. Thermalization is realized with the effective kinetic theory in the leading order accuracy of the weakly coupled expansion. With the initial condition from color glass condensate, hydrodynamization time for the LHC energies is realized to be about 1 fm/c, while the thermalization happens much later than the hydrodynamization. peerReviewed

Integrated optic surface plasmon resonance measurements in a borosilicate glass substrate

2008

The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technique is a well-known optical method that can be used to measure the refractive index of organic nano-layers adsorbed on a thin metal film. Although there are many configurations for measuring biomolecular interactions, SPR-based techniques play a central role in many current biosensing experiments, since they are the most suited for sensitive and quantitative kinetic measurements. Here we give some results from the analysis and numerical elaboration of SPR data from integrated optics experiments in a particular borosilicate glass, chosen for its composition offering the rather low refractive index of 1.4701 at 633 nm wavelength. These data regard the…

In situ remediation of polluted Spolic Technosols using Ca(OH)2 and smectitic marlstone

2014

Technosols are soils developed on non-traditional substrates and containing large quantities of materials mostly due to intensive human industrial activity, such as artefacts. The increasing number of sites affected by Technosols and their impact on the environment as growing media for plants or as source of pollutants require an understanding of their functioning and evolution, above all the knowledge on the transport of toxic substances from contaminated technogenic soils to groundwater. A case study on properties, remediation and evaluation of Technosols made up by vitrified fly ash and glass–ceramics in Italy was carried out. Original technogenic soils, classified as Spolic Technosols (…

Infrared linear dichroism spectroscopy by a double modulation technique

1990

A linear IR dichroism experiment has been devised using a FTIR instrument in combination with a photoelastic modulator. Based on the Mueller-Stokes calculus, a method to directly obtain the absorbance spectra Av parallel and Av perpendicular from the modulated interferogram is developped, which allows the sensitive evaluation of the dichroic ratio. The photoelastic modulator, in combination with a FTIR instrument, offers high sensitivity, high speed, excellent signal to noise ratio and a broad spectral range from 3300 to 850 cm-1. First experimental results obstained from SBS block copolymer are reported.
