Ideology in Vicarious Learning-Related Communication
2021
Organizations often learn vicariously by observing what other organizations do. Our study examines vicarious learning–related communication through which individuals share their observations with other organizational members. Most students and members of present-day organizations would expect that this communication is driven by a prodevelopment logic—that communication serves the purpose of organizational improvement and competitiveness. Our unique historical evidence on learning-related communication over multiple decades shows that the subjective and collective attitude toward prodevelopment communication may be ideologically conditioned. Prodevelopment communication is the norm in capit…
Weiss in der Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts
2008
This study is dedicated to one color exclusively: the color white. Thus, it provides an important contribution to the history of colors as well as to the meaning and the monochromatic use of white as a means of design in 20th century visual arts. Research is based on the assumption that in order to examine one single color it is not enough to exclusively apply methods thaf are restricted to problems that are intrinsic to the fine arts only. This study is therefore divided into two main sections, which in their methodological approach differ from each other as a matter of principle: the analysis on the phenomenon and the meaning of white as regards its content based relevance is followed by …

The Ballad of Sexual Dependency (1981-1996). Plus tard desartistes comme Antoine d’Agata ou Wolfgang Tillmans poursuiv…
Exceptional women: Female merchants and working women in Italy in the early modern period
2018
The chapter examines the juridical construction of working woman in Italian cities during the medieval to modern period. In fact, the world of work and production had been generally thought by medieval and early modern jurists to be a sphere best left to self-regulation by the interested parties, an autonomous field, if not quite extraneous to the grand systems of Roman and canon law. But many regulatory and legal sources demonstrate the relevance of merchant and working women in the economic system. This sources concern three items, regarding female work and family roles: female membership and activities in the Italian guilds; women’s property and capability to act; the relationship betwee…

Une qualité d’emploi mitigée : qu’est-ce qui motive les aides à domicile?
2014
The employment quality in the sector of home care services raises a number of questions. In this sector, job positions are hard to fill and they meet unattractive working conditions. Overall, the sector is suffering from a rather negative image. This article, through a qualitative study, identifies the differentiation factors of employee satisfaction in terms of employment quality, and the work motivation factors, in an environment that is not always favorable. The results show that the perception of employment quality is not homogeneous, but rather produces convergent representations revealing issues with human resources management. A variety of factors appear to motivate the home care ser…
Pro Bono Publico? Demand for Military Spending Between the World Wars
2017
This article analyzes the demand for military spending in the 1920s and 1930s, based on variables arising from the international system and the selected countries. The main premise is that the military spending was an impure public good, implying that both public and private benefits drove the demand for this type of expenditure. Threats arising from the autocratic states in the 1930s increased these expenditures, and democracies overall tended to spend less. Moreover, the absence of clear international leadership by the USA or UK destabilized the international system and increased military spending, with alliances failing to produce a public good effect. Military spending resulted in joint…
