We study high-order harmonics generation from plasmas generated from graphite, fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, diamond nanoparticles, and graphene. Our approach utilizes a heating nanosecond laser pulse to produce plasmas that serve as the media for high harmonic generation from a subsequent driven femtosecond laser pulse. High harmonics are generated at different time delays following the plasma formation, which allows us to analyze the spreading of species with different masses. Probing the Dynamics of a Molecular Ion with Laser Pulses

The dynamics of a H2+ molecular ion driven by two laser pulses separated by a time lag is studied beyond the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. The first, short, pulse prepares the molecule in some quantum state, which is probed by the second pulse. Under suitable conditions, the molecule emits a spectrum of redshifted high-order harmonics. The value of the redshift is proportional to the harmonic order and can be used as a measure of the speed of the atoms of the molecule.
Microwave Response of Ceramic MgB2 Samples

The microwave response of ceramic MgB2 has been investigated as a function of temperature and external magnetic field by two different techniques: microwave surface impedance and second-harmonic emission measurements. The measurements of the surface resistance have shown that microwave losses in MgB2 are strongly affected by the magnetic field in the whole range of temperatures below Tc, even for relatively low field values. The results have been accounted for in the framework of the Coffey and Clem model hypothesizing that in different temperature ranges the microwave current induces fluxons to move in different regimes. The first example of a Y-shaped ferrocene quinoxaline derivative with a surprisingly high and stable second harmonic generation (SHG) response in composite polymeric films is reported. The interesting quadratic hyperpolarizability values of different substituted Y-shaped chromophores are also investigated in solution by the EFISH technique.
Reexamining Different Factors of the Resonance-Enhanced High-Order Harmonic Generation in Atomic and Nanoparticle Laser-Induced Tin Plasmas

We reexamine the resonance enhancement of a single harmonic emission during the propagation of ultrafast pulses through atomic and nanoparticle tin-containing laser-induced plasma (LIP). We compare the single atomic Sn and Sn nanoparticle plasmas to demonstrate a distinction in the enhancement factor of the single harmonic in the case of fixed and tunable near-infrared pulses. The analysis of the dynamics of Sn LIP shows the range of optimal delays between heating and driving pulses (130–180 ns), at which the maximal harmonic yield can be achieved. Chalcogenide Glasses Based on Germanium Disulfide for Second Harmonic Generation

International audience; High second-order susceptibilities are created by thermal poling in bulk germanium disulfide based chalcogenide glasses. Experimental conditions of the poling treatment (temperature, voltage, time) were optimized for each glass composition. The second-order nonlinear signals were recorded by using the Maker fringes experiment and a second-order coefficient χ(2) up to 8 pm V-1 was measured in the Ge25Sb10S65 glass. This value is obtained using a simulation based on accurate knowledge of the thickness of the nonlinear layer. High harmonics generation from structured nanorings

In this work we study the radiation diffused by a fictitious structured nanoring driven by an intense laser field. In our model we consider an electron moving through a cosine-shape potential. The results show that the ring, under particular conditions, emits a wide spectrum of harmonics.

Molecular alignment induced by laser fields has been investigated in research laboratories for over two decades. It led to a better understanding of the fundamental processes at play in the interaction of strong laser fields with molecules, and also provided significant contributions to the fields of high harmonic generation, laser spectroscopy, and laser filamentation.
