Structure analysis of titanate nanorods by automated electron diffraction tomography

A hitherto unknown phase of sodium titanate, NaTi3O6(OH)·2H2O, was identified as the intermediate species in the synthesis of TiO2 nanorods. This new phase, prepared as nanorods, was investigated by electron diffraction, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The structure was determined ab initio using electron diffraction data collected by the recently developed automated diffraction tomography technique. NaTi3O6(OH)·2H2O crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/m. Corrugated layers of corner- and edge-sharing distorted TiO6 octahedra are intercalated with Na+ and water of crystallization. Total-scattering pair-distribution function of organic material from powder electron diffraction data.

AbstractThis paper shows that pair-distribution function (PDF) analyses can be carried out on organic and organometallic compounds from powder electron diffraction data. Different experimental setups are demonstrated, including selected area electron diffraction and nanodiffraction in transmission electron microscopy or nanodiffraction in scanning transmission electron microscopy modes. The methods were demonstrated on organometallic complexes (chlorinated and unchlorinated copper phthalocyanine) and on purely organic compounds (quinacridone). Structure characterization of hard materials by precession electron diffraction and automatic diffraction tomography: 6H-SiC semiconductor and Ni1+xT…

Using a combination of automated diffraction tomography and precession electron diffraction techniques, quasi-kinematical electron diffraction data sets were collected from intermetallic Ni1+xTe1 embedded nanodomains and ion-thinned specimens of 6H–SiC semiconductor. Cell parameters and space groups were found automatically from the reconstructed 3D diffraction volume. The extracted intensities were used for fast ab initio structure determination by direct methods.

Multiplicity fluctuations in hadronic final states from the decay of the Z0

An analysis of the fluctuations in the phase space distribution of hadrons produced in the decay of 78829 Z0 has been carried out, using the method of factorial moments. The high statistics collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP during 1990 allowed studies of the event sample both globally and in intervals of p(t) and multiplicity, and for different jet topologies and for single jets. A large contribution to the factorial moments of the one-dimensional data on rapidity with respect to the event axis comes from hard gluons. Search for massive long-lived highly ionising particles with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

2011

A search is made for massive highly ionising particles with lifetimes in excess of 100 ns, with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, using 3.1 pb-1 of pp collision data taken at √s = 7TeV. The signature of energy loss in the ATLAS inner detector and electromagnetic calorimeter is used. No such particles are found and limits on the production cross section for electric charges 6e ≤ |q| ≤ 17e and masses 200 GeV ≤ m ≤ 1000 GeV are set in the range 1–12 pb for different hypotheses on the production mechanism.
