Conformational Properties of Nickel(II) Octaethylporphyrin in Solution. 2. A Low-Temperature Optical Absorption Spectroscopy Study
1996
We have measured the absorption spectrum of Ni(II) octaethylporphyrin in CH2Cl2 and in a 50% v/v isopentane/ethyl ether mixture as a function of temperature between 150 and 300 K and 40 and 300 K, respectively. The Soret band can be decomposed into two subbands whose frequencies differ by 220 cm-1. By analogy with resonance Raman results (Jentzen et al. J. Phys. Chem. 1996, 100, 14184−14191 (preceding paper)), we attribute the low-frequency subband to a conformer with a nonplanar macrocycle structure, whereas the high-frequency subband is interpreted as resulting from a planar conformer. The subbands' intensity ratios exhibit a solvent-dependent van't Hoff behavior between 300 and 160 K. Cr…
Ag11(SG)7 : A New Cluster Identified by Mass Spectrometry and Optical Spectroscopy
2014
We report a one-step and high yield synthesis of a red-luminescent silver cluster with the molecular formula, Ag11(SG)7 (SG: glutathionate) via reduction of silver ions by sodium borohydride in the presence of the tripeptide, glutathione (GSH). The as-prepared cluster shows prominent absorption features at 485 and 625 nm in its UV-vis absorption spectrum. Aging of the as-prepared cluster solution led to the disappearance of the 625 nm peak, followed by broadening of the 485 nm peak to give three maxima at ?487, 437, and 393 nm in its absorption spectrum. These peaks remain unchanged even after polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), where a single band was observed confirming high purity…
Chapter 6 Colon
2009
Abstract The aim of this chapter is to show the key features of adult colon stem cells and provide a useful tool for their isolation, characterization and propagation.
Experimental and robust modeling approach for lead(II) uptake by alginate gel beads: influence of the ionic strength and medium composition.
2014
Abstract Systematic kinetic and equilibrium studies on the lead ions removal ability by Ca-alginate gel beads have been performed by varying several internal parameters, namely, number of gel beads, nature and composition of the ionic medium and pH, which allowed us to model a wastewater in order to closely reproduce the composition of a real sample. Moreover, the effects brought about the different ionic species present in the reacting medium have been evaluated. Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (DP-ASV), has been systematically used to perform kinetic and equilibrium measurements over continuous time in a wide range of concentration. Kinetic and equilibrium data have been q…
Isocratic high-performance liquid chromatographic determination of tryptophan in infant formulas.
1996
The application to infant formulas of a method for tryptophan determination by isocratic HPLC with UV detection at 254 nm, after derivatization with phenyl isothiocyanate, was studied. Protein was hydrolysed by barium hydroxide at 120 degrees C for 8 h, followed by derivatization with phenyl isothiocyanate, HPLC and UV detection at 254 nm. The optimum chromatographic conditions (pH, ionic strength of elution solvent and eluent ratio) were established. The analytical parameters (linearity, precision, accuracy of derivatization and limits of detection and quantification) were determined. The values obtained demonstrated that the method is useful for determining the tryptophan content of infan…
Crystal fabrics and element impurities (Sr/Ca, Mg/Ca, and Ba/Ca) in shells of Arctica islandica—Implications for paleoclimate reconstructions
2013
Sr/Ca, Mg/Ca and Ba/Ca values are heterogeneously distributed in shells of Arctica islandica. These patterns are largely associated with crystal fabrics (size, habit and orientation of crystals) or the processes controlling them. The outer sublayer of the outer shell layer (oOSL; homogenous and irregular simple prismatic crystal fabrics,) contained element/Ca values up to 62% higher than the inner sublayer (iOSL; crossed-acicular, crossed-lamellar, fine crossed-lamellar and irregular simple prismatic crystal fabrics). A gradual decrease in Sr/Ca and Mg/Ca values was observed from the outer portions of the oOSL toward the oOSL/iOSL transition zone. This chemical shift was accompanied by a gr…
Assessment of the mechanism of elemental incorporation into bivalve shells (Arctica islandica) based on elemental distribution at the microstructural…
2014
Abstract To address the mechanism of elemental incorporation into shells of the bivalve Arctica islandica , we performed two-dimensional elemental mapping of Sr, Mg, and S at a ∼3 μm spatial resolution using electron microprobe. These elemental distributions were precisely compared to the shell microstructure. The Sr distribution was intimately linked to the S concentration and/or shell microstructure. Sr showed a clear annual pattern with higher values at the annual growth lines and lower values in annual growth increments. The Sr and S concentrations were higher near sub-annual growth lines than in the adjacent regions, which were dominated by acicular microstructure (middle shell layer) …
New insights regarding Acinetobacter genomic island-related elements
2020
The objective of this study was to mobilize the Acinetobacter genomic island 1-A (AGI1-A) from Enterobacter hormaechei EclCSP2185 (E. cloacae complex) and to search for the distribution and structure of AGI1-related elements in the NCBI database. AGI1-A was transferred to Escherichia coli. Analysis of the attachment (att) sites could locate the possible recombination crossover in the att sequences at position 10-11 (GG) in the last 18 bp of trmE. In silico detection of AGI backbones in the wgs database identified AGI variants in Salmonella enterica (83 strains), Vibrio cholerae (33), E. hormaechei (12), Acinetobacter baumannii (2), most belonging to prevalent clones (ST40, ST69, ST114 and S…
Dissemination of a Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Strain Belonging to International Clone II/Sequence Type 2 and Harboring a Novel AbaR…
2013
ABSTRACT An outbreak of hospital-acquired Acinetobacter baumannii infections, caused by a bla OXA-23 -positive carbapenem-resistant strain belonging to international clone II/ST2, was detected in Latvia. The strain was partially equipped with the armA gene and the intI1-aacA4-catB8-aadA1-qacE Δ 1 class 1 integron. In addition, the strain carried AbaR25, a novel AbaR4-like resistance island of ∼46,500 bp containing structures similar to the previously described AbaR22 and Tn 6167 islands. AbaR25 was characterized by the occurrence of a second copy of Tn 6022a interrupted by Tn 2006 carrying the bla OXA-23 gene.
Doubled haploid production in fruit crops
2006
The interest of fruit breeders in haploids and doubled haploids (DH), lies in the possibility of shortening the time needed to produce homozygous lines compared to conventional breeding. Haplo-diploidization through gametic embryogenesis allows single-step development of complete homozygous lines from heterozygous parents. In a conventional breeding programme, a pure line is developed after several generations of selfing. With fruit crops, characterized by a long reproductive cycle, a high degree of heterozygosity, large size, and, sometimes, self-incompatibility, there is no way to obtain haploidization through conventional methods. This paper reviews the current status of research on doub…
