Partial differential equations governed by accretive operators

2012

The theory of nonlinear semigroups in Banach spaces generated by accretive operators has been very useful in the study of many nonlinear partial differential equations Such a theory is fundamentally based in the Crandall-Liggett Theorem and in the contributions of Ph. Benilan. In this paper, after outlining some of the main points of this theory, we present some of the applications to some nonlinear partial differential equations that appear in different fields of Science.

Reprint of: Approximate Taylor methods for ODEs

2018

Abstract A new method for the numerical solution of ODEs is presented. This approach is based on an approximate formulation of the Taylor methods that has a much easier implementation than the original Taylor methods, since only the functions in the ODEs, and not their derivatives, are needed, just as in classical Runge–Kutta schemes. Compared to Runge–Kutta methods, the number of function evaluations to achieve a given order is higher, however with the present procedure it is much easier to produce arbitrary high-order schemes, which may be important in some applications. In many cases the new approach leads to an asymptotically lower computational cost when compared to the Taylor expansio…

Integrative bioinformatics and omics data source interoperability in the next-generation sequencing era-Editorial.

2021

With the advent of high-throughput and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies [1], huge amounts of ‘omics’ data (i.e. data from genomics, proteomics, pharmacogenomics, metagenomics, etc.) are continuously produced. Combining and integrating diverse omics data types is important in order to investigate the molecular machinery of complex diseases, with the hope for better disease prevention and treatment [2]. Experimental data repositories of omics data are publicly available, with the main aim of fostering the cooperation among research groups and laboratories all over the world. However, despite their openness, the effective integrated use of available public sources is hampered by t…

TLR4 down-regulation identifies high risk HPV infection and integration in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas

2015

TLRs are main actors of the innate immune response against HPV. There are very few studies on the role of TLRs mediated HPV clearance in Head and Neck oncology. Our aim was to evaluate whether TLR4 expression identifies HPV infection and/or HR-HPV integration status in oral and oropharyngeal cancers. By immunohistochemistry we assessed TLR4 levels in OSCC/OPSCC. To detect viral integration or episomic status In situ hybridization for HPV-DNA and Pyro-sequencing techniques have been performed. The relationship between TLR4 expression with HPV infection status has been investigated. ISH HPV positive samples have reported lower levels of TLR4 intensity than negative samples (p = .002). There w…

Efficacy and safety of regorafenib for advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumours after failure of imatinib and sunitinib (GRID): an international, mu…

2013

Contains fulltext : 118365.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) BACKGROUND: Until now, only imatinib and sunitinib have proven clinical benefit in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST), but almost all metastatic GIST eventually develop resistance to these agents, resulting in fatal disease progression. We aimed to assess efficacy and safety of regorafenib in patients with metastatic or unresectable GIST progressing after failure of at least imatinib and sunitinib. METHODS: We did this phase 3 trial at 57 hospitals in 17 countries. Patients with histologically confirmed, metastatic or unresectable GIST, with failure of at least previous imatinib and sunitinib were rando…

Integration of oncology and palliative care: a Lancet Oncology Commission.

2018

© 2018 Elsevier Ltd Full integration of oncology and palliative care relies on the specific knowledge and skills of two modes of care: the tumour-directed approach, the main focus of which is on treating the disease; and the host-directed approach, which focuses on the patient with the disease. This Commission addresses how to combine these two paradigms to achieve the best outcome of patient care. Randomised clinical trials on integration of oncology and palliative care point to health gains: improved survival and symptom control, less anxiety and depression, reduced use of futile chemotherapy at the end of life, improved family satisfaction and quality of life, and improved use of health-…

Intensity modulated radiation therapy with simultaneous integrated boost in early breast cancer irradiation. Report of feasibility and preliminary to…

2015

To investigate the feasibility and tolerance in the use of adjuvant intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and simultaneous integrated boost in patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer after breast-conserving surgery.Between September 2011 to February 2013, 112 women with a diagnosis of early breast cancer (T1-2, N0-1, M0) were treated with IMRT and simultaneous integrated boost after breast-conserving surgery in our institution. A dose of 50Gy in 25 fractions was prescribed to the whole breast and an additional dose of radiation was prescribed on the tumour bed. A dose prescription of 60Gy in 25 fractions to the tumour bed was used in patients with negative margins after surgery, w…
