Nominal Agreement in L2 Speakers of Italian: Suggestions for a Teaching Plan

International audience; This paper addresses the topic of adult acquisition of nominal agreement in Italian, a crucial issue in teaching Italian as Second/Foreign Language. Building on a corpus containing spontaneous and semi-spontaneous production data from two advanced L2-speakers of Italian, I show that nominal agreement can be problematic even in the last stages of the acquisition process. The discussion of the instances of missing agreement in the corpus suggests that these are not due to a missing knowledge of the agreement rules in Italian, but instead on processing and production. In this paper the use and quality of the evaluative language produced by a bilingual child in a story-telling situation is analysed. The subject, an 11-year-old Finnish boy, Jimmy, is bilingual in Finnish sign language (FinSL) and spoken Finnish. He was born deaf but got a cochlear implant at the age of five. The data consist of a spoken and a signed version of “The Frog Story”. The analysis shows that evaluative devices and expressions differ in the spoken and signed stories told by the child. Early perception of phrasal prosody and its role in syntactic and lexical acquisition

Chapter: 2, pp. 17-35; International audience; This chapter will review empirical findings on the perception of phrasal prosody in very young infants, and how it develops in first language acquisition. The ability to process phrasal prosody impacts learning of important aspects of language, specifically word segmentation and syntactic parsing. We will see that infants are able to perceive crucial aspects of phrasal prosody before the end of their first year of life, and that a few months later they are able to exploit the prosodic structure of an utterance to constrain its syntactic analysis, and therefore, to infer the meaning of unknown words.

Pētījuma mērķis - izpētīt bilingvālās izglītības pirmsskolās 3-4 gadīgu bērnu latviešu kā otrās valodas apguves veicināšanu. Kvalifikācijas darba uzdevumi: 1.analizēt zinātnisko literatūru par valodas apgūšanu un divvalodību; 2.izpētīt un raksturot 3-4 gadīgu bērnu attīstību un otrās valodas apguves īpatnības; 3.veikt anketēšanu un analizēt datus par latviešu valodas apguvi bilingvālā mācību procesā pirmsskolā.
