Hydrophilic Sponges loaded with Curcumin solid lipid nanoparticles and Metronidazole applied on L-PRF clot to promote tissue regeneration in dentistry

2018

Leukocyte-and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) technology allows for the preparation of strong fibrin membranes enriched with cells (activated platelets, leukocytes, circulating cells) and platelet growth factors [1]. In dentistry, the use of this autologous platelet concentrates such as L-PRF, also in association with Metronidazole (MTR), seems an innovative approach for vestibular bone grafting on the alveolar ridges [2]. In addition, Curcumin (CUR), a natural polyphenol derived from the rhizome of the Curcuma longa, could be effectiveness on tissue regeneration due to its well-known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties [3]. The aim of the present work was the development of bioerodib…

Aspetti emoreologici nella iperviscosità policitemica e sierica

2015

Development of a Multifunctional Bioerodible Nanocomposite Containing Metronidazole and Curcumin to Apply on L-PRF Clot to Promote Tissue Regeneratio…

2020

Teeth extractions are often followed by alveolar bone reabsorption, although an adequate level of bone is required for reliable rehabilitations by dental implants. Leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) has been widely applied in regenerative procedures and with antibiotic and antioxidant agents could play an essential role in hard and soft tissue healing. In this work, a nanocomposite (Sponge-C-MTR) consisting of a hyaluronate-based sponge loaded with metronidazole (MTR) and nanostructured lipid carriers containing curcumin (CUR-NLC) was designed to be wrapped in the L-PRF&trade

Lipid and phase specificity of α-toxin from S. aureus

2013

AbstractThe pore forming toxin Hla (α-toxin) from Staphylococcus aureus is an important pathogenic factor of the bacterium S. aureus and also a model system for the process of membrane-induced protein oligomerisation and pore formation. It has been shown that binding to lipid membranes at neutral or basic pH requires the presence of a phosphocholine-headgroup. Thus, sphingomyelin and phosphatidylcholine may serve as interaction partners in cellular membranes. Based on earlier studies it has been suggested that rafts of sphingomyelin are particularly efficient in toxin binding. In this study we compared the oligomerisation of Hla on liposomes of various lipid compositions in order to identif…

Dynamics of Pattern Formation in Biomimetic Systems

2008

This paper is an attempt to conceptualize pattern formation in self-organizing systems and, in particular, to understand how structures, oscillations or waves arise in a steady and homogenous environment, a phenomenon called symmetry breaking. The route followed to develop these ideas was to couple chemical oscillations produced by Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction with confined reaction environments, the latter being an essential requirement for any process of Life. Special focus was placed on systems showing organic or lipidic compartments, which represent more reliable biomimetic matrices.

Light-driven proton transport of bacteriorhodopsin incorporated into long-term stable liposomes of a polymerizable sulfolipid

1983

Abstract The chromoprotein bacteriorhodopsin from Halobacterium halobium has been incorporated into liposomes made of a fully synthetic, polymerizable lipid. Bacteriorhodopsin is found to be active in these polymer liposomes. The advantage in the use of such polymer systems concerning long-term stability in comparison with liposomes made of natural lipid is demonstrated.

The Elovl5 enzyme in breast cancer : regulation of cancer cell proliferation and metastasis

2021

Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in women. The 5-year relative survival rate is less than 30% for metastatic breast cancer and metastases account for more than 75% of breast cancer deaths. Fatty acid metabolism is altered in cancer and contributes to tumor progression and metastasis. Here, we were interested in Elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 5 (Elovl5) which catalyzes the elongation of long-chain fatty acids. We observed that the tumors from patients with a breast cancer had a lower expression of Elovl5 than paired normal breast tissue. However, low expression of Elovl5 is associated with a worse prognosis in breast cancer p…

THERAPEUTIC-LOADED LIPID NANOSTRUCTURES AND BRAIN DISEASES.

2012

Central Nervous System (CNS) diseases represent the largest and fastest growing area of unmet medical need since an alarming increase in brain disease incidence is going on. Despite major advances in neuroscience, many potential therapeutic agents are denied access to the CNS because of the existence of a physiological low permeable barrier, the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB). To obtain an improvement of drug CNS performance, sophisticated approaches such as nanoparticulate systems are rapidly developing. In particular, in this chapter, the most recent data demonstrating the potential of lipid nanostructures, such as Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLN) and Nanostructured Lipid Carriers (NLC), to tra…
