Fuzzy dynamic sliding mode control design for high order disturbed systems

2013

In this paper, the problem of fuzzy dynamic sliding mode control design is investigated for a class of disturbed systems. Specifically, the fuzzy controller is constructed based on one feedback signal to estimate the unknown nonlinear terms and to develop the sliding mode control according to the fuzzy rules. Furthermore, it possesses the characteristic of simplicity in design and effectiveness in attenuating chattering. Finally, a numerical example is included to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantage of the proposed method.

Interaction features for prediction of perceptual segmentation:Effects of musicianship and experimental task

2016

As music unfolds in time, structure is recognised and understood by listeners, regardless of their level of musical expertise. A number of studies have found spectral and tonal changes to quite successfully model boundaries between structural sections. However, the effects of musical expertise and experimental task on computational modelling of structure are not yet well understood. These issues need to be addressed to better understand how listeners perceive the structure of music and to improve automatic segmentation algorithms. In this study, computational prediction of segmentation by listeners was investigated for six musical stimuli via a real-time task and an annotation (non real-tim…

Visualizations for Decision Support in Scenario-based Multiobjective Optimization

2021

Reproducibility artifacts for: Babooshka Shavazipour, Manuel López-Ibáñez, and Kaisa Miettinen. Visualizations for Decision Support in Scenario-based Multiobjective Optimization. Information Sciences, 2021. doi:10.1016/j.ins.2021.07.025. Abstract: We address challenges of decision problems when managers need to optimize several conflicting objectives simultaneously under uncertainty. We propose visualization tools to support the solution of such scenario-based multiobjective optimization problems. Suitable graphical visualizations are necessary to support managers in understanding, evaluating, and comparing the performances of management decisions according to all objec…

Flows of information and meaning: a vocabulary approach to integrated thinking and reporting

2020

PurposeIntegrated reporting (IR) is increasingly becoming a practice useful not only for accountability but also for managerial purposes because of its potential role as a signifying practice for integrated thinking (IT). In this perspective, this paper aims to explore which of the objects that are represented in integrated reports provide materiality and common understanding to the concept of IT for its effective implementation within organizations.Design/methodology/approachThis paper is based on a vocabulary approach for interpreting the texts of integrated reports as systems of words that are able to provide meaning for a common understanding of the concept of IT. In particular, by focu…

A General Fuzzy-Parsing Scheme for Speech Recognition

1985

In this paper a Speech Recognition Methodology is proposed which is based on the general assumption of ‘fuzzyness’ of both speech-data and knowledge-sources. Besides this general principle, there are other fundamental assumptions which are also the bases of the proposed methodology: ‘Modularity’ in the knowledge organization, ‘Homogeneity’ in the representation of data and knowledge, ‘Passiveness’ of the ‘understanding flow’ (no backtraking or feedback), and ‘Parallelism’ in the recognition activity.

A multi-objective approach to solid waste management

2010

The issue addressed in this paper consists in the localization and dimensioning of transfer stations, which constitute a necessary intermediate level in the logistic chain of the solid waste stream, from municipalities to the incinerator. Contextually, the determination of the number and type of vehicles involved is carried out in an integrated optimization approach. The model considers both initial investment and operative costs related to transportation and transfer stations. Two conflicting objectives are evaluated, the minimization of total cost and the minimization of environmental impact, measured by pollution. The design of the integrated waste management system is hence approached i…

Tensor products, multiplications and Weyl’s theorem

2005

Tensor productsZ=T 1⊗T 2 and multiplicationsZ=L T 1 R T 2 do not inherit Weyl’s theorem from Weyl’s theorem forT 1 andT 2. Also, Weyl’s theorem does not transfer fromZ toZ*. We prove that ifT i,i=1, 2, has SVEP (=the single-valued extension property) at points in the complement of the Weyl spectrumσ w(Ti) ofT i, and if the operatorsT i are Kato type at the isolated points ofσ(Ti), thenZ andZ* satisfy Weyl’s theorem.

Games and Bisimulations for Intuitionistic First-Order Kripke Models

2021

The aim of this paper is to introduce the notion of a game for intuitionisticfirst-order Kripke models. We also establish links between notions presented here and thenotions of logical equivalence and bounded bisimulation for intuitionistic first-order Kripkemodels, and the Ehrenfeucht–Fra ̈ıss ́e game for classical first-order structures.

Wittgenstein, Turing, and Neural Networks

2018

The main task of this paper is grounding the socio-anthropological “naturalization” of meaning operated by the later Wittgenstein in his remarks on rule-following in the Philosophical Investigations in considerations relating to models of low-level (biological) processes of imitation, training, and learning. If the operation suggested above is successful, two of its immediate consequences are that the social aspect of language can no longer be considered as a primitive notion, but needs to be placed upon, if not reduced to, a biological foundation; and that the study of thought, and, actually, of certain brain processes, becomes prior in the order of explanation to the study of language. La filosofía como crítica del lenguaje

2005

Vicente. This article compares Mauthner's and Wittgenstein's conceptions of philosophy as critique of language. Its conclusion is than they offer two different models of critique: epistemological, psychological, historical, naturalist, worldly and atheist that of Mauthner. Logical, no psychologist, no…
