Recent aflatoxin survey data in milk and milk products: A review

Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) occurrence in human and animal milk, infant formula, powdered milk, cheese and yoghurt represents a risk for health. The last four years (2010–2014) of data, as well as the most frequently and updated analytical methods applied for AFM1 quantification, are evaluated. Aflatoxin B1, considered the most potent toxic aflatoxin, is metabolised to form the monohydroxy derivative AFM1. This metabolized, expressed in the milk, is relatively stable, and it is not eliminated by heat treatments or pasteurisation, and thus represents a serious health concern.

Presence of aflatoxin M1 in pasteurized milk from Morocco

Fifty four samples of pasteurized milk produced by five different dairies from Morocco were surveyed for the presence of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) using immunoaffinity columns and liquid chromatography coupled to fluorescence detection. Confirmation of AFM1 identity in positive samples was based on the formation of AFM1 hemi-acetal derivative (AFM2a) after derivatization with trifluoracetic acid. Analytical results showed that 88.8% of the samples were contaminated with AFM1; 7.4% being above the maximum level of 0.05 microg/L set by the Moroccan and European regulations for AFM1 in liquid milk. Epileptic seizures as a manifestation of cow's milk allergy: a studied relationship and description of our pediatric experience

Adverse reactions after ingestion of cow's milk proteins can occur at any age, from birth and even amongst exclusively breast-fed infants, although not all of these are hypersensitivity reactions. The most common presentations related to cow's milk protein allergy are skin reactions, failure to thrive, anaphylaxis as well as gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders. In addition, several cases of cow's milk protein allergy in the literature have documented neurological involvement, manifesting with convulsive seizures in children. Evaluation of Microbiological and Physico-Chemical Quality of Raw Milk from Sibiu Dairy Farm Province of Romania

Research aims at benchmarking the quality of raw milk supplied by four private farms in the county of Sibiu at a distance of about 25 km each for a period of three months (April, May, June 2010). Samples were subject to particularly microbiological measurements (total number of germ and somatic cells), physico-chemical (acidity, fat density, non-fat dry matter, protein and freezing point titre) by international standard methods. Plant Sterols and Antioxidant Parameters in Enriched Beverages: Storage Stability

Plant sterols (PS) stability, antioxidant parameters, and color were studied during 6 months of storage at 4, 24, and 37 °C in three PS-enriched functional beverages. Beverages were skimmed milk with fruit juice and PS (MFJPS), fruit juice and PS (FJPS), and skimmed milk with PS (MPS). No loss in total PS content occurred during storage observing the same values at any given storage time point. Total carotenoids decreased 36% with storage at two months and then remained stable. This investigation aimed to individuate the dietary factors affecting the milk urea nitrogen (MUN) concentration in goats grazing herbaceous pasture and, particularly, to verify the relationship linking the diet crude protein (CP) content to MUN. A total of 205 individual observations regarding dietary and milk variables of 37 Girgentana goats involved in two experiments were used. Goats, averaging 154±14 days in milk and 38.1±5.4 kg of live weight, grazed on swards and received 500 g/d of barley meal.
