Microscopic Revelation of Charge-Trapping Sites in Polymeric Carbon Nitrides for Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity by Correlating with Chemical and El…

2019

The influences of chemical and electronic structures on the photophysical properties of polymeric carbon nitrides (PCNs) photocatalysts, which govern the microscopic mechanisms of the superior photocatalytic activity under visible-light irradiation, have been resolved in this work. Time-resolved photoluminescence and in situ electron paramagnetic resonance measurements indicate that the photoexcited electrons in the fractured PCNs swiftly transfer to the C2p-localized states where the trapped photoelectrons exhibit longer lifetime compared to those in the ordinary PCNs. Moreover, the structure deviation at the carbon (Cb) atoms around the bridging sites of heptazine ring units, where trappe…

Evaluation of Glyphosate Ecotoxicity and Biodegradability in the Municipal Wastewaters

2018

Glyphosate (G) is a broad-spectrum systemic organophosphate herbicide being widely used to control weeds in agricultural fields and urban areas. Its safety for both human health and aquatic biomes is a subject of wide debate. This study was aimed at evaluating the removal efficiency and ecotoxicity of G based herbicide (GBH) Klinik® (Nufarm, Austria) added to the raw municipal wastewater (WW) in a lab-scale model column system. The effect of oxide ceramics as a filtering medium (treatment „B”), as well as activated sludge and nutrients (treatment „C”) was compared with the control columns, which contained only WW (treatment „A”). After 72h treatment of WW spiked with 100 mg/L G, the lowest …

Evaluation of Sewage Sludge for Further Nutrient Conservation

2020

Conversion of organic-containing sludges to a high value fertilizer is considered to be a rational solution from a recycling point of view. Aerobic respiration could serve as an indicator of stability and maturity of the treated sewage sludge (SS). The aim of this study was to characterize two SS samples, obtained from different wastewater treatment plants („D” and „J”), i.e, at the initial stage of treatment, alone and with amendments. Two methods for estimation of microbial respiration, as well as dehydrogenase activity were used. The SS-J demonstrated the higher microbial biodegradation activity, as compared to SS-D. In experiments with OxiTop® device, statistically significant (p<0.0…

Prediction of Difficult Tracheal Videolaryngoscopic Intubation Using El-Ganzouri Risk Index

2017

Summary Introduction. Unanticipated difficult intubation still exists as a significant problem. El-Ganzouri risk index is a bedside difficult airway evaluation method, which can help determine risk of difficult airways. However, evidence of using of El-Ganzouri risk index in difficult laryngeal visualisation using videolaryngoscopes is limited. Aim of the Study. Determine the specificity and sensitivity of El-Ganzouri multivariate risk index to predict difficult laryngeal exposure using Storz C-MAC videolaryngoscope equipped with D type blade. Material and methods. We conducted a study of 29 patients, which were examined using El-Ganzouri risk index before induction of anaesthesia. After in…

Proteome Analysis of Colorectal Cancer Cell Line SW480 Released Extracellular Vesicles

2018

The detection and profiling of disease-specific extracellular vesicles (EVs) from body fluids has been challenging research area during recent years. However, the question – can EVs surface proteins be exploited as a credible tool for early cancer diagnosis – is still not answered. Objective of the current study was to find out whether hypoxia induces differences in protein profiles of EVs released from hypoxic human colorectal cancer cells SW480 (EVHyp) and EVs released from these cells grown in normoxic conditions – EVNorm. Obtained results show differences in EVs surface protein samples. Some protein fragments were found only or mostly in EVHyp surface protein samples. Finding of one or …

Water Structure in Proteins in Solid State Studied by Near Infrared Spectroscopy

2017

Water adsorption in proteins is the crucial process of protein folding and structure stabilizing. Adsorption of water on proteins can be evaluated by near-infrared spectroscopy, a useful technique for observing combination frequency of a water molecule. In this work, albumin, lysozyme, and silk, were used as models for α-helix and β-pleated sheet proteins. Their NIR spectra during water adsorption process were measured by using an NIR spectrometer equipped with a transflectance accessory. Moreover, the quantitative adsorption of water was determined by gravimetric technique. The results indicate that, there are five different NIR absorptions arise from the OH combination frequencies of wate…

Characteristic of Pseudomonas syringae pv. atrofaciens Isolated from Weeds of Wheat Field

2021

The aim of this study was the identification of the causative agent of the basal glume rot of wheat Pseudomonas syringae pv. atrofaciens from the affected weeds in wheat crops, and determination of its virulent properties. Isolation of P. syringae pv. atrofaciens from weeds of wheat crops was carried out by classical microbiological methods. To identify isolated bacteria, their morphological, cultural, biochemical, and serological properties as well as fatty acids and Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA (RAPD)-PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) profiles with the OPA-13 primer were studied. Pathogenic properties were investigated by artificial inoculation of wheat plants and weed plants, fr…

TRAIL–NP hybrids for cancer therapy: a review

2017

IF 7.367; International audience; Cancer is a worldwide health problem. It is now considered as a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in developed countries. In the last few decades, considerable progress has been made in anti-cancer therapies, allowing the cure of patients suffering from this disease, or at least helping to prolong their lives. Several cancers, such as those of the lung and pancreas, are still devastating in the absence of therapeutic options. In the early 90s, TRAIL (Tumor Necrosis Factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand), a cytokine belonging to the TNF superfamily, attracted major interest in oncology owing to its selective anti-tumor properties. Clinical trials u…

Dextran-based therapeutic nanoparticles for hepatic drug delivery.

2016

Aim: Evaluation of dextran-based nanoparticles (DNP) as a drug delivery system to target myeloid cells of the liver. Materials & methods: DNP were synthesized and optionally PEGylated. Their toxicity and cellular uptake were studied in vitro. Empty and siRNA-carrying DNP were tested in vivo with regard to biodistribution and cellular uptake. Results: In vitro, DNP were taken up by cells of the myeloid lineage without compromising their viability. In vivo, empty and siRNA-carrying DNP distributed to the liver where a single treatment addressed approximately 70% of macrophages and dendritic cells. Serum parameters indicated no in vivo toxicity. Conclusion: DNP are multifunctional liver-s…
