The reaction of octakis(3-chloropropyl)octasilsesquioxane with four equivalents of 1-hexylimidazole or 1-decylimidazole gave two products labelled as HQ-POSS (hexyl-imidazolium quaternized POSS) and DQ-POSS (decyl-imidazolium quaternized POSS) as regioisomer mixtures. An investigation of the biological activity of these two compounds revealed the higher antimicrobial performances of HQ-POSS against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, proving its broad-spectrum activity. A Review of Biosensors for Non-Invasive Diabetes Monitoring and Screening in Human Exhaled Breath

Exhaled breath acetone has been identified as a diabetes biomarker for non-invasive diagnosis. Its detection using biosensors features has many advantages over the conventional means. This paper reviews the recent literature on the detection of exhaled breath acetone and acetone vapor of diabetic interest. The biosensors have been classified based on their transduction methods. The performance characteristics of the biosensors have been explored for comparison. The future trends are also highlighted.

In the crystal structure of the title salt, C10H16N3O+·C7H5O2−, the cations and anions are linked to each other via N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming infinite chains running along [010]. The crystal structure also features C—H⋯O and π–π stacking interactions, which assemble the chains into supramolecular layers parallel to (100). The π–π stacking interactions are observed between the pyridine rings of inversion-related cations with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.867 (2) Å. The present paper deals with the investigation of quasi-static and dynamic mechanical response of epoxy-based composites reinforced with flax and/or jute plain weave fabrics. In order to evaluate the influence of the stacking sequence, two monolithic laminates reinforced with flax or jute fibers and two hybrid flax/jute laminates were manufactured through the vacuum infusion technique. Abstract In this study we explored a case of comorbidity between DSA and Borderline Intellectual Functioning. The girl was fourteen years old, ninth grade of school in Palermo, with significant learning difficulties. Two interviews were conducted, one with parents and one with teachers, to investigate the history of the girl's learning. In the pre-test phase the following cognitive areas were investigated: Q.I. (Level of Intelligence), decoding ability, reading comprehension and writing skills. Analysis of a viscoelastic phase separation model

A new model for viscoelastic phase separation is proposed, based on a systematically derived conservative two-fluid model. Dissipative effects are included by phenomenological viscoelastic terms. By construction, the model is consistent with the second law of thermodynamics, and we study well-posedness of the model, i.e., existence of weak solutions, a weak-strong uniqueness principle, and stability with respect to perturbations, which are proven by means of relative energy estimates. A good qualitative agreement with mesoscopic simulations is observed in numerical tests.
