The optimal approach to obtain an adequate graft for transplantation in patients with poor peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) mobilization remains unclear. We retrospectively assessed the impact of different strategies of second-line stem cell harvest on the transplantation outcome of patients who failed PBSC mobilization in our institution. Such patients were distributed into three groups: those who proceeded to steady-state bone marrow (BM) collection (group A, n = 34); those who underwent second PBSC mobilization (group B, n = 41); those in whom no further harvesting was carried out (group C, n = 30). Changes of individual non-esterified fatty acids in serum were studied in 7 metabolically healthy patients, suffering from idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia, who underwent electrocoagulation of gasserian ganglion under neurolepthypalgesia. The mean concentration of fatty acids increased by about 40% during the strong surgical pain stimulus. The increased lipolysis affected all individual fatty acids in proportion to the ratio of their presence in adipose tissue. The mechanism of pain-induced activation of lipase and possible consequences of alterations in individual non-esterified fatty acids are discussed.

We have determined the effect of delayed addition of G-CSF after chemotherapy on PBPC mobilization in a group of 30 patients with high risk breast cancer (HRBC) undergoing standard chemotherapy followed by high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) and autologous SCT. Patients received FAC chemotherapy every 21 days followed by G-CSF at doses of 5 microg/kg/day starting on day +15 (groups 1 and 2) or +8 (group 3) after chemotherapy. [EN] In Valencia, during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, the water users´ associations and the Ayuntamiento de Valencia underwent through a fierce conflict. The revision of the legal concession of water diverted from the Turia River for urban uses caused a strong reaction of the agricultural users, which promoted an unprecedented social mobilization and provoked the major’s resignation. The conflict between huerta and city is an interesting indicator of the politicization of Valencian society in the first third of the twentieth century and also of the power of symbolic capital to boost social action.
