1D antiferromagnetism in spin‐alternating bimetallic chains

1990

The magnetic and thermal properties of the ordered bimetallic chain CoNi(EDTA)⋅6H2O in the very low‐temperature range are reported. The magnetic behavior does not exhibit the characteristic features of 1D ferrimagnets, but a continuous decrease of χmT towards zero at absolute zero. This 1D antiferromagnetic behavior results from an accidental compensation between the moments located at the two sublattices. This behavior, as well as the specific‐heat results, are modeled on the basis of an Ising‐exchange model that considers both alternating spins and Landé factors, and a zero‐field splitting on the Ni site. Zn(II) and Ni(II) complexes with poly-histidyl peptides derived from a snake venom

2018

Abstract The snake venoms are complex mixtures containing many bioactive peptides and proteins; some of them are aimed to protect the snake glands, where the venom is stored, until the latter is inoculated in the victim. In the venom of some vipers of the genus Atheris , a set of peptides containing poly-His and poly-Gly segments was recently found. Poly-His peptides are not rare in Nature. Although their exact biological function is most often unknown, one thing is certain: they have good binding properties towards the transition metal ions. As a matter of fact, the imidazole side chain of histidine is one of the groups most frequently involved in metal complexation in the active sites of …

Ni-Based Catalysts for Low Temperature Methane Steam Reforming: Recent Results on Ni-Au and Comparison with Other Bi-Metallic Systems

2013

Steam reforming of light hydrocarbons provides a promising method for hydrogen production. Ni-based catalysts are so far the best and the most commonly used catalysts for steam reforming because of their acceptably high activity and significantly lower cost in comparison with alternative precious metal-based catalysts. However, nickel catalysts are susceptible to deactivation from the deposition of carbon, even when operating at steam-to-carbon ratios predicted to be thermodynamically outside of the carbon-forming regime. Reactivity and deactivation by carbon formation can be tuned by modifying Ni surfaces with a second metal, such as Au through alloy formation. In the present review, we su…

Halogenation of tellurium by SO2Cl2. Formation and crystal structures of (H3O)[Te3Cl13]·1/2SO2, [(C4H8O)2H][TeCl5]·(C4H8O), [(Me2SO)2H]2[TeCl6], and …

2002

Abstract The halogenation of elemental tellurium with SO2Cl2 in various solvents has been investigated. (H3O)[Te3Cl13]·1/2SO2 (1) and [(C4H8O)2H][TeCl5]·(C4H8O) (2) were obtained in CS2 and THF, respectively. When DMSO is added into the THF solution of tellurium and SO2Cl2, [(Me2SO)2H]2[TeCl6] (3) is formed. In the acetonitrile solution tellurium and SO2Cl2 form [Ni(NCCH3)6][Te2Cl10] (4) in the presence of metallic nickel. All compounds 1–4 were characterized by 125Te NMR and by X-ray crystallography. The formation of the anions has been discussed.

The first metamagnetic one-dimensional molecular material with nickel(ii) and end-to-end azido bridges

2001

A novel single azido bridged one-dimensional Ni(II) chain, which represents the first metamagnetic one-dimensional metal–azido system with only end-to-end azido bridges, has been synthesised and characterised by a low temperature magnetic study. Lloret Pastor, Francisco, Francisco.Lloret@uv.es

G-quadruplex vs. duplex-DNA binding of nickel(II) and zinc(II) Schiff base complexes

2016

Novel nickel(II) (1) and zinc(II) (2) complexes of a Salen-like ligand, carrying a pyrimidine ring on the N,N' bridge, were synthesized and characterized. Their interaction with duplex and G-quadruplex DNA was investigated in aqueous solution through UV-visible absorption, circular dichroism and viscometry measurements. The results obtained point out that, while the zinc(II) complex does not interact with both duplex and G-quadruplex DNA, the nickel(II) complex 1 binds preferentially to G-quadruplex respect to duplex-DNA, with values of the DNA-binding constants, Kb, 2.6×10(5)M(-1) and 3.5×10(4)M(-1), respectively. Molecular dynamics simulations provided an atomic level model of the top-sta…

Accessing the fundamentals of magnetotransport in metals with terahertz probes

2015

Spin-dependent conduction in metals underlies all modern magnetic memory technologies, such as giant magnetoresistance (GMR). The charge current in ferromagnetic transition metals is carried by two non-mixing populations of sp-band Fermi-level electrons: one of majority-spin and one of minority-spin. These electrons experience spin-dependent momentum scattering with localized electrons, which originate from the spin-split d-band. The direct observation of magnetotransport under such fundamental conditions, however, requires magnetotransport measurements on the same timescale as the electron momentum scattering, which takes place in the sub-100 fs regime. Using terahertz electromagnetic prob…

Electrodeposited nickel–zinc alloy nanostructured electrodes for alkaline electrolyzer

2022

Abstract Over the last decade, as a consequence of the global decarbonization process, the interest towards green hydrogen production has drastically increased. In particular a substantial research effort has focused on the efficient and affordable production of carbon-free hydrogen production processes. In this context, the development of more efficient electrolyzers with low-cost electrode/electrocatalyst materials can play a key role. This work, investigates the fabrication of electrodes of nickel-zinc alloys with nanowires morphology cathode for alkaline electrolyzers. Electrodes are obtained by the simple method of template electrosynthesis that is also inexpensive and easily scalable.…

It is possible to prepare phenol alcohols in good yields by reduction of phenol aldehydes with hydrogen in the presence of RANEY nickel and even at room temperature and normal pressure contrary to literature references. The reduction of phenol carboxylic acid esters by LiAlH4 is a suitable preparation …
