Implication of the Examining Pathologist to Meet the Oncologic Standard of Lymph Node Count after Laparoscopic Lymphadenectomy

<i>Objective:</i> The lymph node number as benchmark in oncologic operations depends on the patient’s anatomy, surgeon’s skill and pathologist’s accuracy. The influence of the pathologist is barely evaluated. <i>Methods:</i> A retrospective analysis of lymph node numbers after 700 laparoscopic lymphadenectomies in correlation to the examining pathologists was done. Three surgeons from the same department performed all operations at 2 campi, where 2 separate pathology institutions exist. BACKGROUND The value of ultrasound B-scan for routine follow-up of melanoma patients still is not generally accepted. Therefore, the authors compared the efficacy of physical examination (PE) with ultrasound B-scan (UBS) for detection of regional tumor recurrence in melanoma patients. Dendritic cells (DCs) are considered to be promising adjuvants for inducing immunity to cancer. We used mature, monocyte-derived DCs to elicit resistance to malignant melanoma. The DCs were pulsed with Mage-3A1 tumor peptide and a recall antigen, tetanus toxoid or tuberculin. 11 far advanced stage IV melanoma patients, who were progressive despite standard chemotherapy, received five DC vaccinations at 14-d intervals. The first three vaccinations were administered into the skin, 3 × 106 DCs each subcutaneously and intradermally, followed by two intravenous injections of 6 × 106 and 12 × 106 DCs, respectively. Spontaneous regression of multiple melanocytic nevi after melanoma: report of 3 cases.

Complete spontaneous regression of multiple melanocytic nevi after melanoma is an extremely rare phenomenon. We report 3 cases of patients with a history of melanoma that showed regression of almost all melanocytic nevi over time. One of the patients had 2 simultaneous primary cutaneous melanomas without metastasis. In the other 2 patients, regression of the melanocytic nevi was seen after the development of metastasis in lymph nodes. These patients had spontaneously developed an efficient immune response against melanocytes, and they would represent paradigmatic examples of the spontaneous immune responses in melanoma patients. High-endothelial venules are a common feature of 3 types of cutaneous pseudolymphomas: pretibial lymphoplasmacytic plaque (PLP) of children, acral pseudolymphomatous angiokeratoma of children (APACHE), and T-cell rich angiomatoid polypoid pseudolymphoma (TRAPP). In addition, primary cutaneous angioplasmacellular hyperplasia (PCAH) overlaps with these other 3 conditions. Mammary Analogue Secretory Carcinoma (MASC) of salivary gland in four Mexican patients.

The Clinco-pathological, immunohistochemical and molecular findings of four cases of Mammary Analogue Secretory Carcinoma (MASC) of salivary glands found in Mexico are described. The cases were extracted from 253 salivary gland tumors from a single institution in Mexico City. The 85 candidates for initial selection were: low grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) (N=70 ), acinic cell cancinoma (AciCC) (N=14), papillary cystadenocarcinoma (N=1), and adenocarcinoma NOS (N=0).
