Use of translational genomics to identify genes important for legume seed filling
2013
International audience; Translational genomics, i.e., the transfer of genetic information from model species to cultivated crops, is on the brink of revolutionizing plant breeding. The recent publication of genomic sequences for several cultivated legumes is also accelerating this process. For pea, recent highthroughput RNA sequencing, and the prospect of a genome sequencing project, will further accelerate the transfer of information from the Medicago truncatula model to the cultivated crop. We have been using genomics approaches with Medicago as a tool to identify key genes determining seed yield and composition in closely related legumes. Analyses of the proteome and transcriptome of the…
Double copies of blaKPC-3::Tn4401a on an IncX3 plasmid in Klebsiella pneumoniae successful clone ST512 from Italy
2015
ABSTRACT A carbapenem-resistant sequence type 512 (ST512) Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase 3 (KPC-3)-producing K. pneumoniae strain showing a novel variant plasmid content was isolated in Palermo, Italy, in 2014. ST512 is a worldwide successful clone associated with the spread of bla KPC genes located on the IncFIIk pKpQIL plasmid. In our ST512 strain, the bla KPC-3 gene was unusually located on an IncX3 plasmid, whose complete sequence was determined. Two copies of bla KPC-3 ::Tn 4401a caused by intramolecular transposition events were detected in the plasmid.
Ecology of Vastedda della valle del Belìce cheeses: A review and recent findings to stabilize the traditional production
2018
The increasing request for classic foods has led to a higher demand for cheeses enjoying a “recognition of quality” status. This phenomenon has also affected Sicilian dairy products, in particular protected designation of origin (PDO) “Vastedda della valle del Belìce” (VdB), a cheese traditionally available only during the summer season, but requested year round. The variations of the microbial populations of raw milk among the seasons influence the microbiological quality of the cheeses produced. This review article reports the historical importance of cheeses and the traditional equipment used for dairy productions in Sicily with a specific focus on VdB. The microbial ecology of this chee…

Regulation of type 1 fimbriae synthesis and biofilm formation by the transcriptional regulator LrhA of Escherichia coli
2005
Type 1 fimbriae ofEscherichia colifacilitate attachment to the host mucosa and promote biofilm formation on abiotic surfaces. The transcriptional regulator LrhA, which is known as a repressor of flagellar, motility and chemotaxis genes, regulates biofilm formation and expression of type 1 fimbriae. Whole-genome expression profiling revealed that inactivation oflrhAresults in an increased expression of structural components of type 1 fimbriae. In vitro, LrhA bound to the promoter regions of the twofimrecombinases (FimB and FimE) that catalyse the inversion of thefimApromoter, and to the invertible element itself. TranslationallacZfusions with these genes and quantification offimEtranscript le…
Restitusjonsvaner hos unge toppidrettsutøvere i Sør-Norge : En kartleggingsstudie av utholdenhet- og ballspillutøvere
2018
Masteroppgave idrettsvitenskap ME517 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 Background: In order to perform optimally in training and competition, the recovery inbetween, through adequate diet and sufficient sleep/rest, is of great importance. Up until now, most studies have only featured adult athletes. Similarly, studies conducted on young athletes, as well as across sports, are limited. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the habits of recovery, in terms of diet and sleep, with regards to the recommendations given by Helsedirektoratet and Olympiatoppen. Further investigating the use of different recovery strategies, among young elite athletes in southern Norway. Method: A total of 36 …
Uztura paradumu, fiziskās aktivitātes un miera vielmaiņas intensitātes izvērtējums jaunu cilvēku grupā
2016
Maternal weaning practices and their impact on infant's acceptance of new food
2010
Objective. The introduction of solid foods is a major step in the development of food behaviour. Previous studies showed that higher sensory variety in weaning period can later influence infant's acceptance of new food. The aim of the present study is (i) to describe precisely the different maternal weaning practices, (ii) to relate them with the individual mothers' and infants' characteristics, (iii) to study if these practices could impact infant's acceptance of new foods. Methods. Mothers (n=121) were requested to record each food proposed to their infant detailed from a sensory point of view and to score the level of its acceptance at the 4 first presentations. The beginning of the wean…
Providing choice and/or variety on vegetables: What impact on food intake?
2015
On the one hand, a choice situation gives an individual a sense of freedom, autonomy and control over the environment, which triggers higher intrinsic motivation and higher satisfaction (Deci and Ryan, 1985). Indeed, it has been demonstrated that a choice situation elicits higher food intake in a meal context (Rohlfs Domínguez et al., 2013; Parizel et al., 2015). On the other hand, providing variety has been demonstrated to enhance food intake. Rolls et al. (1981) argued that providing variety during a meal prevents the onset of specific sensory satiation which refers to the declining satisfaction generated by the monotonous consumption of a certain food. However, in an out-of-home catering…
Eating a variety of vegetables: the importance of feeding practices at weaning and onwards
2013
Présentation sous forme d'un diaporama (24 diapositives) classé confidentiel; International audience; Eating a varied diet is known to improve the food intake from a nutritional point of view. Weaning (i.e. introduction of complementary foods) is a transitional process between the consumption of a unique food, milk, and family foods. This is the time when the diet gets progressively diversified. Accumulating evidences point towards the role that eating a varied diet as early as the beginning of weaning plays in the development of further food acceptance and healthy eating habits. These studies will be reviewed, as well as other studies underlying more broadly the role played by parental fee…
