On the continuous and discontinuous maximal operators

Abstract In the first part of this paper we study the regularity properties of a wide class of maximal operators. These results are used to show that the spherical maximal operator is continuous W 1 , p ( R n ) ↦ W 1 , p ( R n ) , when p > n n − 1 . Other given applications include fractional maximal operators and maximal singular integrals. On the other hand, we show that the restricted Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator M λ , where the supremum is taken over the cubes with radii greater than λ > 0 , is bounded from L p ( R n ) to W 1 , p ( R n ) but discontinuous.

Rocker: Open source, easy-to-use tool for AUC and enrichment calculations and ROC visualization

Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve with the calculation of area under curve (AUC) is a useful tool to evaluate the performance of biomedical and chemoinformatics data. For example, in virtual drug screening ROC curves are very often used to visualize the efficiency of the used application to separate active ligands from inactive molecules. Unfortunately, most of the available tools for ROC analysis are implemented into commercially available software packages, or are plugins in statistical software, which are not always the easiest to use. We determine knotting probabilities and typical sizes of knots in double-stranded DNA for chains of up to half a million base pairs with computer simulations of a coarse-grained bead-stick model: Single trefoil knots and composite knots which include at least one trefoil as a prime factor are shown to be common in DNA chains exceeding 250,000 base pairs, assuming physiologically relevant salt conditions. The analysis is motivated by the emergence of DNA nanopore sequencing technology, as knots are a potential cause of erroneous nucleotide reads in nanopore sequencing devices and may severely limit read lengths in the foreseeable future. Role of nitric oxide pathway in the conditioned rewarding effects of MDMA in mice.

It is estimated that 2.1 million young adults used MDMA/Ecstasy in the last year in Europe. Vulnerable subjects can develop dependence after MDMA abuse but currently there does not exist an effective treatment for this disorder. The nitric oxide (NO) pathway seems to have an important role on the rewarding effects of different drugs and has been proposed as a new pharmacological treatment for psychostimulant addiction. Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) remains a major complication following allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation, limiting the success of this therapy. We previously reported that interleukin-22 (IL-22) participates to aGVHD development, but the underlying mechanisms of its contribution remain poorly understood. In this study, we analyzed the mechanism of the pathological function of IL-22 in intestinal aGVHD. Deep learning for diagnosis and survival prediction in soft tissue sarcoma.

Background Clinical management of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) is particularly challenging. Here, we used digital pathology and deep learning (DL) for diagnosis and prognosis prediction of STS. Patients and methods Our retrospective, multicenter study included a total of 506 histopathological slides from 291 patients with STS. The Cancer Genome Atlas cohort (240 patients) served as training and validation set. A second, multicenter cohort (51 patients) served as an additional test set. Network effects and pathways in Deep brain stimulation in Parkinson's disease.

Deep brain stimulation of subthalamic nucleus (STN-DBS) became a standard therapeutic option in Parkinson's disease (PD), even though the underlying modulated network of STN-DBS is still poorly described. Probabilistic tractography and connectivity analysis as derived from diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) were performed together with modelling of implanted electrode positions and linked postoperative clinical outcome.
