2019
Murtuzayev P. Riska pārvaldības analīze banku sektorā Latvijas reģionā: Maģistra darbs / P.Murtuzajevs, profesors, Dr.oec. Digitālās transformācijas projekts telekomunikāciju uzņēmumā
2018
Digitālā transformācija ir uzņēmuma spēja adaptēties tehnoloģiju progresam. Tas prasa organizācijām diversificēt ieņēmumus, mainīt biznesa modeli un attīstīt jaunus pakalpojumus, lai apgūtu augošu digitālo ekosistēmu, kurā mijiedarbojas sakari, tehnoloģijas un mediji. Maģistra darba tēma ir “Digitālās transformācijas projekts telekomunikāciju uzņēmumā”. Darba mērķis ir veicināt jaunu digitālo pakalpojumu attīstību Tele2 organizācijā, kas ļauj stiprināt digitālo transformāciju un potenciāli var palielināt uzņēmuma ieņēmumus nākotnē. Darbs sastāv no trīs nodaļām. Pirmā nodaļa ir projekta pētījums, kur autors analizē telekomunikāciju nozares attīstības globālos izaicinājumus un novērtē digitāl…
Lojalitātes programmas izstrāde mobilajam operatoram
2015
Validation procedures in radiological diagnostic models. Neural network and logistic regression
1999
The objective of this paper is to compare the performance of two predictive radiological models, logistic regression (LR) and neural network (NN), with five different resampling methods. One hundred and sixty-seven patients with proven calvarial lesions as the only known disease were enrolled. Clinical and CT data were used for LR and NN models. Both models were developed with cross validation, leave-one-out and three different bootstrap algorithms. The final results of each model were compared with error rate and the area under receiver operating characteristic curves (Az). The neural network obtained statistically higher Az than LR with cross validation. The remaining resampling validatio…
Introducing a strategic perspective in lean thinking applications through system dynamics modelling: the dynamic Value Stream Map
2020
PurposeLean Thinking is an operation management discipline which aims to identify, map and analyse the activities forming a process to detect “value waste” and outline the most effective flow of activities to execute in sequence. Process mapping is often developed in lean projects through the use of the Value Stream Map (VSM). Like many other management tools, the VSM adopts a static and non-systemic perspective in the representation of an organizational process. This may result in the implementation of Lean projects inconsistent with the overall organizational long-term strategy, thus leading to dysfunctional performance. In order to overcome this limit, the paper suggests combining VSM wi…
An active inference and epistemic value view of metacognition
2015
Metacognition concerns our monitoring and control of mental operations (knowing what you know). Much thinking about metacognition is liable to fall foul of the classic homunculus problem: Nobody can specify who or what does the "metacognition." We describe how the Active Inference and Epistemic Value (AIEV) model offers an operationalization of epistemic behaviors which can explain two example metacognitive phenomena: Control and monitoring of word learning, and the search for unretrieved information in the feeling of knowing. Curiosity drives a search forward, but it is held in check by considering the utility of what is retrieved from memory.
Racism and ethics in the globalized business world
2002
This paper analyzes the concept of racism in the context of business ethics and globalization. It first introduces three ethical traditions to understand moral issues in business: deontological, utilitarian and virtue ethics. Then it discusses about the challenges and demands that globalization has set to multicultural and multinational business operations. Third, it clarifies how racism works when it is understood as an ideology‐based phenomenon. It argues that there is a great value of knowing how racism works for the development of an anti‐racist and nondiscriminating organization. Although any of the three traditions on ethical thinking does not give direct answer to the question of how…
Work team effectiveness in organizational contexts

PurposeThis introductory paper aims to provide a contextualization of recent research and applications on work team effectiveness in organizational contexts carried out in Spain and Portugal and to describe connections between this research and the main trends in the international scene.Design/methodology/approachSince the 1990s, new occupational and organizational realities have deepened scientific interest in work teams in both Spain and Portugal. A range of recently published (1992‐2004) works in this area are reviewed. The selected sources are papers published in Spanish, Portuguese and international journals.FindingsReviewing this work, four major trends are identified that synthesize …
Daily deliberative dissonance acting among police officers.
2014
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to gain insight into the relationships of daily deliberative dissonance acting (DDA) with daily strain and daily work engagement. DDA refers to the deliberate acting of emotions to achieve one's work goals. The authors hypothesized that daily DDA would be positively related to strain through feelings of emotional dissonance. In addition, the authors predicted that DDA would be positively related to daily work engagement via job accomplishment. Design/methodology/approach –The authors applied a five-day quantitative diary design with two measurement occasions per day using a sample of 54 police officers (i.e. 270 measurement occasions). In the multilev…
How BATNAs perception impacts JVs negotiations
2013
PurposeIn light of the inconclusive findings in literature, the aim of this paper is to answer the question: how can negotiation behavior be explained in a situation of power imbalance?Design/methodology/approachBased on Kim et al., the paper proposes a theoretical model that is empirically studied through a case study.FindingsPower relationship is a key contextual factor in determining negotiation behavior in joint ventures (JVs), but it has to be defined more in terms of the perceived value of the alternatives rather than the amount of available better alternatives to a negotiation agreement (BATNAs). Thus, when a partner looks to gain access to knowledge (market, technology, etc.) about …
