Anterior dislocation in a total knee arthroplasty: A case report and literature review.

Dislocations of a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are an uncommon injury and only few cases of anterior dislocations have been reported. We report a rare case of anterior dislocation of a 10-year-old posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty in a 74-year-old woman. The patient was successfully treated by close reduction of the dislocation followed by immobilization in full extension with a long leg cast. Because of a high risk of neurovascular complications, a high index of suspicion for vascular injury must be maintained. For this reason, a proper diagnosis is required and immediate reduction is recommended.

The effect of cement fixation on initial micromotion of the femoral component in condylar knee replacement

Four fresh, cadaveric specimens were fitted with total knee replacements and mounted on a knee joint loading and measuring rig. Femoral component micromotion in the sagittal plane was measured with a transducer during flexion and extension of the specimen. Various condylar designs were used without and with cement. Movement followed a characteristic curve pattern and was less with cement fixation particularly for bone of low trabecular strength as determined by bone sample tests for stiffness. Cement fixation appears to be superior to cementless fixation.

Percutaneous iliosacral screw fixation is a widely accepted method of stabilizing the posterior pelvic ring. Recently developed tools such as 3D-navigated fluoroscopy and computed navigation seem to prevent a surgeon from conducting screw misplacement. The study aimed to comparatively assess the introduction of sacroiliac screw placement using 2D and 3D fluoroscopy in terms of accuracy and radiation exposure. Iliosacral screws were introduced in 37 patients using 2D (group N1) and in 36 patients using 3D fluoroscopy (group N2) techniques. Em 1976, pouco antes que eu nascesse, seu amigo Chico Buarque, que o tinha conhecido quando exilado na Itália, lhe escreveu uma carta sobre um Brasil em plena ditadura. By studying metaphors of love in Handel´s opera Giulio Cesare in Egitto, I will introduce how it is depicted by the protagonists´ arias; via Cleopatra´s and Caesar´s musical relations, as a prevailing message. The atmospheric tone paintings set to the musical highlights of the protagonist arias answer the questions: how is love defined in Giulio Cesare? What kind of musical signs of love are there to be found and what will they tell us? Love is an essential theme in the work because the arias` foci are interlocked by the affectual tensions. Nesting problems are two-dimensional cutting and packing problems involving irregular shapes. This thesis is focused on real applications on Nesting problems such as the garment industry or the glass cutting. The aim is to study different mathematical methodologies to obtain good lower bounds by exact procedures and upper bounds by heuristic algorithms. Diplomdarbā tika pētītas zinātniskās fantastikas ilustrācijas, to attīstības vēsture un vizuālā stilistika. Darba teorētiskajā daļā tika noskaidrots zinātniskās fantastikas jēdziens un tā vēsturiskā izcelšanās un pazīmes, kas norāda piederību šim žanram. Tika apskatīti tādi zinātniskās fantastikas apakšžanri kā: space opera, new wave, cyberpunk un steampunk. Kā arī tiem piemītošās stilistiskās īpatnības. Attiecīgi katram attīstības posmam apzināti tā perioda ilustratori.
