Anisotropic elliptic equations with gradient-dependent lower order terms and L^1 data
2023
<p>We prove the existence of a weak solution for a general class of Dirichlet anisotropic elliptic problems such as $ \mathcal Au+\Phi(x, u, \nabla u) = \mathfrak{B}u+f $ in $ \Omega $, where $ \Omega $ is a bounded open subset of $ \mathbb R^N $ and $ f\in L^1(\Omega) $ is arbitrary. The principal part is a divergence-form nonlinear anisotropic operator $ \mathcal A $, the prototype of which is $ \mathcal A u = -\sum_{j = 1}^N \partial_j(|\partial_j u|^{p_j-2}\partial_j u) $ with $ p_j &gt; 1 $ for all $ 1\leq j\leq N $ and $ \sum_{j = 1}^N (1/p_j) &gt; 1 $. As a novelty in this paper, our lower order terms involve a new class of operators $ \mathfrak B $ such…
Local uniqueness of the solutions for a singularly perturbed nonlinear nonautonomous transmission problem
2020
Abstract We consider the Laplace equation in a domain of R n , n ≥ 3 , with a small inclusion of size ϵ . On the boundary of the inclusion we define a nonlinear nonautonomous transmission condition. For ϵ small enough one can prove that the problem has solutions. In this paper, we study the local uniqueness of such solutions.
Empirical measures and Vlasov hierarchies
2013
The present note reviews some aspects of the mean field limit for Vlasov type equations with Lipschitz continuous interaction kernel. We discuss in particular the connection between the approach involving the N-particle empirical measure and the formulation based on the BBGKY hierarchy. This leads to a more direct proof of the quantitative estimates on the propagation of chaos obtained on a more general class of interacting systems in [S.Mischler, C. Mouhot, B. Wennberg, arXiv:1101.4727]. Our main result is a stability estimate on the BBGKY hierarchy uniform in the number of particles, which implies a stability estimate in the sense of the Monge-Kantorovich distance with exponent 1 on the i…
A DERIVATION OF THE VLASOV-NAVIER-STOKES MODEL FOR AEROSOL FLOWS FROM KINETIC THEORY
2016
This article proposes a derivation of the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system for spray/aerosol flows. The distribution function of the dispersed phase is governed by a Vlasov-equation, while the velocity field of the propellant satisfies the Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible fluids. The dynamics of the dispersed phase and of the propellant are coupled through the drag force exerted by the propellant on the dispersed phase. We present a formal derivation of this model from a multiphase Boltzmann system for a binary gaseous mixture, involving the droplets/dust particles in the dispersed phase as one species, and the gas molecules as the other species. Under suitable assumptions on the colli…

PD-1, PD-L1, and CD163 in pancreatic undifferentiated carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells: A expression patterns and clinical implications
2018
Undifferentiated carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells (UCOGC), a variant of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), has a striking genetic similarity to PDAC but a significantly improved overall survival. We hypothesize that this difference could be due to the immune response to the tumor, and as such, we investigated the expression of PD-1, PD-L1, and CD163 in a series of UCOGC. To this aim, 27 pancreatic UCOGCs (11 pure and 16 PDAC-associated), 5 extrapancreatic tumors with osteoclast-like giant cells and 10 pancreatic anaplastic carcinomas were immunostained using antibodies against PD-1, PD-L1, and CD163. In pancreatic UCOGCs, PD-L1 was expressed in neoplastic cells of 17 (63%) o…
Tumor infiltrating T lymphocytes expressing FoxP3, CCR7 or PD-1 predict the outcome of prostate cancer patients subjected to salvage radiotherapy aft…
2016
Tumor immunologic microenvironment is strongly involved in tumor progression and the presence of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) with different phenotypes has been demonstrated to be of prognostic relevance in different malignancies. We investigated whether TIL infiltration of tumor tissues could also predict the outcome of prostate cancer patients. To this end, we carried out a retrospective analysis correlating the outcome of locally advanced prostate cancer patients undergone salvage radiotherapy upon relapse after radical surgery with the infiltration by different TIL populations. Twenty-two patients with resectable prostate cancer, with a mean age of 67 (+/−3.93) years, who receiv…
Preliminary experience with a transcranial magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound surgery system integrated with a 1.5-T MRI unit in a series o…
2018
OBJECTIVETranscranial magnetic resonance–guided focused ultrasound surgery (tcMRgFUS) is one of the emerging noninvasive technologies for the treatment of neurological disorders such as essential tremor (ET), idiopathic asymmetrical tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease (PD), and neuropathic pain. In this clinical series the authors present the preliminary results achieved with the world’s first tcMRgFUS system integrated with a 1.5-T MRI unit.METHODSThe authors describe the results of tcMRgFUS in a sample of patients with ET and with PD who underwent the procedure during the period from January 2015 to September 2017. A monolateral ventralis intermedius nucleus (VIM) thalamic ablation was pe…
Prevalence of fatigue in Parkinson disease and its clinical correlates
2014
Objective: To assess in a noninterventional setting the prevalence and severity of fatigue in patients with Parkinson disease (PD). Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Italian patients with PD. Objectives included the evaluation of the current prevalence and severity of fatigue in patients with PD measured using the 16-item Parkinson Fatigue Scale (PFS-16), distressing fatigue (defined as a PFS-16 mean score $3.3), and assessment of its clinical correlates. Results: A total of 402 patients were enrolled and 394 patients completed the PFS-16 questionnaire with a PFS-16 mean (6SD) score of 2.87 6 0.99. Of these, 136 patients (33.8%) reported distressing fatigue (PFS-16 mean…
Honeycomb supported Co3O4/CeO2 catalysts for CO/CH4 emissions abatement: effect of low Pd-Pt content on the catalytic activity
2007
Abstract A structured Co3O4–CeO2 composite oxide, containing 30% by weight of Co3O4, has been prepared over a cordieritic honeycomb support. The bimetallic, Pd–Pt catalyst has been obtained by impregnation of the supported Co3O4–CeO2 with Pd and Pt precursors in order to obtain a total metal loading of 50 g/ft3. CO, CH4 combined oxidation tests were performed over the catalyzed monoliths in realistic conditions, namely GHSV = 100,000 h−1 and reaction feed close to emission from bi-fuel vehicles. The Pd–Pt un-promoted Co3O4–CeO2 is promising for cold-start application, showing massive CO conversion below 100 °C, in lean condition. A strong enhancement of the CH4 oxidation activity, between 4…
