ICP-MS multielement determination in fly ash after microwave-assisted digestion of samples.
2001
A microwave assisted digestion procedure has been developed for dissolution of fly ash samples prior to the inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometric determination of their elemental composition. The developed methodology was validated by carrying out the analysis of two high-silicate containing reference materials (CRM 134R sewage amended soil and NIES JR 1 rock) and by means of the comparison between results found by microwave-assisted digestion and ICP-MS of fly ash samples with those found by neutron activation analysis (NAA) for Sb, Cs, Cr, Co, Fe, U and Zn determination. The method developed can be recommended for routine multielement analysis of fly ash.
An ultrasound-assisted digestion method for the determination of toxic element concentrations in ash samples by inductively coupled plasma optical em…
2007
Abstract A method of ultrasound-assisted digestion followed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) used for the determination of toxic element concentrations (arsenic, barium, cobalt, copper, lead, nickel, strontium, vanadium and zinc) in ash samples was developed. All the measurements were performed in robust plasma conditions which were tested by measuring the Mg(II) 280.270 nm/Mg(I) 285.213 nm line intensity ratios. The highest line intensity ratios were observed when a nebulizer gas flow of 0.6 L min−1, auxiliary gas flow of 0.2 L min−1 and plasma power of 1400 W were used for radially viewed plasma. The analysis of SRM 1633b showed that the ultrasound-ass…
Determination of benperidol and its reduced metabolite in human plasma by high-performance liquid chromatography and electrochemical detection.
1991
An isocratic high-performance liquid chromatographic method with electrochemical detection for the quantification of benperidol and its suggested reduced metabolite TVX Q 5402 in human plasma is described. The method included a two-step solid-phase extraction on reversed-phase and cation-exchange material, followed by separation on a cyanopropyl silica gel column (5 microns; 250 mm x 4.6 mm I.D.). The eluent was 0.15 M acetate buffer (pH 4.7) containing 25% acetonitrile (w/w). Spiperone served as internal standard. The inclusion of the cation-exchange step provided sample purity higher than those achieved with other methods. After extraction of 1 ml of plasma, concentrations as low as 0.5 n…
Peptides analysis in blood plasma using on-line system of supported liquid membrane and high-performance liquid chromatography
2005
The potential of using supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique, combined with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) has been investigated for the determination of peptides in human blood plasma. The peptides studied were (DL)Leu(DL)Phe, MetLeuPhe, GlyLeuTyr and ValGluProlleProTyr. The carrier (Aliquat 336) was incorporated in membrane phase in order to facilitate the transport of investigated peptides. After extraction, the analyte-enriched acceptor phase was directly injected into an HPLC system for analysis. With SLM, high selectivity and efficiency were achieved for extraction of peptides in aqueous solutions. Lower extraction efficiency was obtained in plasma…
Development of a species-unspecific isotope dilution GC-ICPMS method for possible routine quantification of sulfur species in petroleum products.
2008
Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS) hyphenated with capillary gas chromatography was applied for sulfur multispecies determination in petroleum products by species-unspecific isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS). To guarantee a stable and continuous addition of the spike into the GC-ICPMS system, a special dosing unit was designed and synthesis of a (34)S-labeled dimethyldisulfide spike from (34)S-enriched elemental sulfur in the milligram range was developed. The sample was mixed with an internal standard for spike mass flow calibration. From the mass flow chromatogram obtained by species-unspecific GC-ICP-IDMS, determination of all separated sulfur species and of the…

Statistical characterisation of heavy metal contents inParacentrotus lividusfrom Mediterranean Sea
2014
This work focuses on the estimation of Hg, As, Cr, Ni, Cu, V, Cd and Pb by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry in 135 adult specimens of Paracentrotus lividus collected in different coastal areas of Sicily (Gela, Punta Secca, Ragusa (RG), Siracusa, Priolo, Catania, Messina, Milazzo, Brolo and Filicudi), in order to monitor the Mediterranean marine ecosystem by use of sea urchin as bioindicator. Moreover, the paper deals with the statistical classification of the tested samples according to the sampling area based on metal concentrations. The descriptive statistics findings were obtained and, a starting multivariate matrix was built. Data-sets were subjected to Kruskal-Wallis test t…
Debates with Small Transparent Quantum Verifiers
2014
We study a model where two opposing provers debate over the membership status of a given string in a language, trying to convince a weak verifier whose coins are visible to all. We show that the incorporation of just two qubits to an otherwise classical constant-space verifier raises the class of debatable languages from at most NP to the collection of all Turing-decidable languages (recursive languages). When the verifier is further constrained to make the correct decision with probability 1, the corresponding class goes up from the regular languages up to at least E.
Approximating hidden chaotic attractors via parameter switching.
2018
In this paper, the problem of approximating hidden chaotic attractors of a general class of nonlinear systems is investigated. The parameter switching (PS) algorithm is utilized, which switches the control parameter within a given set of values with the initial value problem numerically solved. The PS-generated attractor approximates the attractor obtained by averaging the control parameter with the switched values, which represents the hidden chaotic attractor. The hidden chaotic attractors of a generalized Lorenz system and the Rabinovich-Fabrikant system are simulated for illustration. In Refs. 1–3, it is proved that the attractors of a chaotic system, considered as the unique numerical …
Evaluation of Clotting Factor Concentrates for Treatment of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura.
2010
Abstract Abstract 3678 Introduction: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is characterized by microthrombi, hemolytic anemia as well as thrombocytopenia. These symptoms are caused by a decreased activity of the protease ADAMTS13 which cleaves the von Willebrand Factor (VWF), due to mutation of the ADAMTS13-gene or autoantibodies. At the moment, the only available immediate therapy is plasmapheresis with Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) which may induce side effects. Therefore an alternative therapy might be the treatment with clotting factor concentrates. Methods: 40 plasma samples were tested, consisting of FFP and solvent/detergent treated plasma, four batches of each blood group; VWF/VIII …
