AMPA Receptor Auxiliary Proteins of the CKAMP Family

2019

α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptors are assembled of four core subunits and several additional interacting proteins. Cystine-knot AMPA receptor-modulating proteins (CKAMPs) constitute a family of four proteins that influence the trafficking, subcellular localization and function of AMPA receptors. The four CKAMP family members CKAMP39/shisa8, CKAMP44/shisa9, CKAMP52/shisa6 and CKAMP59/shisa7 differ in their expression profile and their modulatory influence on AMPA receptor function. In this review, I report about recent findings on the differential roles of CKAMP family members.

Green Composites Based on Mater-Bi® and Solanum lycopersicum Plant Waste for 3D Printing Applications

2023

3D printability of green composites is currently experiencing a boost in importance and interest, envisaging a way to valorise agricultural waste, in order to obtain affordable fillers for the preparation of biodegradable polymer-based composites with reduced cost and environmental impact, without undermining processability and mechanical performance. In this work, an innovative green composite was prepared by combining a starch-based biodegradable polymer (Mater-Bi®, MB) and a filler obtained from the lignocellulosic waste coming from Solanum lycopersicum (i.e., tomato plant) harvesting. Different processing parameters and different filler amounts were investigated, and the obtained sample…

Probabilistic maturation reaction norms assessed from mark-recaptures of wild fish in their natural habitat

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Ecology and Evolution. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/ece3.1044 Open Access Reaction norms are a valuable tool in evolutionary biology. Lately, the probabilistic maturation reaction norm approach, describing probabilities of maturing at combinations of age and body size, has been much applied for testing whether phenotypic changes in exploited populations of fish are mainly plastic or involving an evolutionary component. However, due to typical field data limitations, with imperfect knowledge about individual life histories, this demographic method still needs to be assessed. Using 13 years of direct mark-recap…

Prenatal Exposure to Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol Affects Hippocampus-Related Cognitive Functions in the Adolescent Rat Offspring: Focus on Specific Marke…

2023

Previous evidence suggests that prenatal exposure to THC (pTHC) derails the neurodevelopmental trajectories towards a vulnerable phenotype for impaired emotional regulation and limbic memory. Here we aimed to investigate pTHC effect on hippocampus-related cognitive functions and markers of neuroplasticity in adolescent male offspring. Wistar rats were exposed to THC (2 mg/kg) from gestational day 5 to 20 and tested for spatial memory, object recognition memory and reversal learning in the reinforce-motivated Can test and in the aversion-driven Barnes maze test; locomotor activity and exploration, anxiety-like behaviour, and response to natural reward were assessed in the open field, elevate…

Vanadium-based Ziegler-Natta catalyst supported on MgCl2(THF)2 for ethylene polymerization

1996

A supported magnesium‐vanadium‐aluminium catalyst was prepared by depositing –with the use of a milling technique–VOCl3 on the MgCl2(THF)2 support and subsequent activation with diethylaluminium chloride. Catalytic activity of the obtained system for ethylene polymerization was evaluated as a function of Mg/V and Al/V ratios as well as catalyst ageing time and polymerization temperature. High concentrations of THF in the catalytic system and considerable excess of an organoaluminium co‐catalyst were found to have no deactivating action on vanadium active sites. The catalyst obtained is stable and its activity for ethylene polymerization is high. It yields polyethylene with higher molecular …

Role of the nNOS gene in ethanol-induced conditioned place preference in mice

2009

Nitric oxide (NO) produced by neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) has a role in synaptic plasticity, and evidence suggests its role in a range of effects produced by alcohol in the central nervous system. The aim of the current study was to investigate the role of the nNOS gene in the development of ethanol-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) in mice. The CPP paradigm is designed to investigate the reinforcing properties of drugs of abuse and the development of maladaptive behaviors, such as conditioned response to drug-associated stimuli, following repeated drug exposure. Adult male and female wild type (WT) and nNOS knockout (KO) mice on a mixed B6; 129S genetic background were t…

Amino-Acid-Based Polymerizable Surfactants for the Synthesis of Chiral Nanoparticles

2016

Amino-acid-based chiral surfactants with polymerizable moieties are synthesized, and a versatile approach to prepare particles thereof with a chiral surface functionality is presented. As an example of an application, the synthesized particles are tested for their ability as nucleating agents in the enantioselective crystallization of amino acid conglomerate systems, taking rac-asparagine as a model system. Particles resulting from chiral surfactants with different tail groups are compared and the results demonstrate that only the chiral nanoparticles made of the polymerizable surfactant are able to act efficiently as nucleation agent in enantioselective crystallization.

Measurements on the temperature dependence of the cationic polymerization of styrene in CH2Cl2 with CF3SO3H as catalyst

1979

The cationic polymerization of styrene in CH2Cl2 with CF3SO3H as catalyst and at low monomer concentrations shows, at −15°C, −45°C and −60°C, the same formal dependence on monomer concentration. The dependence on the catalyst concentration is approximately but not exactly of a third order.

Effect of hydrogen on the ethylene polymerization process over Ziegler-Natta catalysts supported on MgCl2(THF)2. I. Studies of the chain-transfer rea…

2000

The effect of hydrogen on the molecular weight of polyethylene obtained over vanadium catalysts (based on VCl4 and VOCl3) supported on MgCl2(THF)2 was studied and the results were compared to those obtained for similar titanium catalysts. It was confirmed that the dependencies of the transfer reaction on the hydrogen concentration are a half-order in all investigated systems. However, the transition metal of the catalytic site affects the ratio of the transfer rate with hydrogen to the propagation rate (ktr,H/kp) and the results showed that hydrogen is a more effective agent of polyethylene molecular weight control in vanadium-based systems as compared to the titanium catalyst. © 2000 John …

Tailoring polymers through interplay of ligands within precatalysts: 8-(Nitro/benzhydryl-arylimino)-7,7-dimethyl-5,6-dihydroquinolylnickel halides in…

2017

A series of 8-(nitro/benzhydryl-substituted arylimino)-7,7-dimethyl-5,6-dihydroquinolines and the corresponding nickel halide complexes were synthesized and characterized. Molecular structures of representative nickel complexes were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, showing the dinuclear dimers with distorted square-pyramidal geometry around the nickel center. The binding energies determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicate the effective coordination between the sp2-nitrogen and nickel atoms as well as the influence of both the halogen ligands and the substituents within dihydroquinolines on the strength of the NiN bond. Ethylene polymerization with the nicke…
