POLYASPARTAMIDE-POLYLACTIDE GRAFT COPOLYMERS WITH TUNABLE PROPERTIES FOR THE REALIZATION OF FLUORESCENT NANOPARTICLES FOR IMAGING

2015

Here, the synthesis and the characterization of novel amphiphilic graft copolymers with tunable properties, useful in obtaining polymeric fluorescent nanoparticles for application in imaging, are described. These copolymers are obtained by chemical conjugation of rhodamine B (RhB) moieties, polylactic acid (PLA), and O-(2-aminoethyl)-O'-methyl poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) on α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA). In particular, PHEA is first functionalized with RhB to obtain PHEA-RhB with a derivatization degree in RhB (DDRhB ) equal to 0.55 mol%. By varying the reaction conditions, different amounts of PLA are grafted on PHEA-RhB to obtain PHEA-RhB-PLA with DDPLA equal to 1.9, 4…

The molecular dynamics of thermoreversible networks as studied by broadband dielectric spectroscopy

1995

Polybutadienes modified by a small number of 4-phenyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione form thermoreversible networks via hydrogen bonding between the polar stickers. The molecular dynamics of systems with different contents of polar stickers are investigated by broadband dielectric spectroscopy in the frequency regime of 10−1–109 Hz. Unmodified polybutadiene shows two relaxation processes, the α-relaxation which is correlated to the dynamic glass transition of the polybutadiene, and a β-relaxation corresponding to a local relaxation of polybutadiene segments. In the polar functionalized systems, besides these two relaxations, an additional relaxation process (called α*) is observed, which occurs…

Characterization of a new natural fiber from Arundo donax L. as potential reinforcement of polymer composites.

2013

Abstract The aim of this paper is to study the possibility of using of Arundo donax L. fibers as reinforcement in polymer composites. The fibers are extracted from the outer part of the stem of the plant, which widely grows in Mediterranean area and is diffused all around the world. To use these lignocellulosic fibers as reinforcement in polymer composites, it is necessary to investigate their microstructure, chemical composition and mechanical properties. Therefore, the morphology of A. donax L. fibers was investigated through electron microscopy, the thermal behavior through thermogravimetric analysis and the real density through a helium pycnometer. The chemical composition of the natura…

Achieving branched polyethylene waxes by aryliminocycloocta[b]pyridylnickel precatalysts: Synthesis, characterization, and ethylene polymerization

2017

Cycloocta[b]pyridin-10-one was prepared to form the corresponding imino derivatives, which then reacted with (DME)NiBr2 to form 10-aryliminocycloocta[b]pyridylnickel bromides (Ni1–Ni5). The new compounds were characterized by means of FT-IR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis and the organic ligands were also analyzed by the NMR measurements. Furthermore, the molecular structure of a representative complex Ni3 was determined by the single crystal X-ray diffraction, indicating the distorted tetrahedral geometry around the nickel atom. Upon the activation with either methylaluminoxane (MAO) or diethylaluminium chloride (Et2AlCl), the title nickel complexes exhibited high activity in et…

Fabrication of silver nanoparticles by a diethylene triamine-hyaluronic acid derivative and use as antibacterial coating

2022

In this work a synthetic protocol for the functionalization of hyaluronic acid with diethylenetriamine (DETA) was standardized. HA-DETA derivatives were characterized by NMR and proton carbon correlation analysis HSQC and HMBC to confirm chemical structure. A selected derivative was used to set up a green fabrication procedure for HA-DETA capped silver nanoparticles with the aim to achieve a polymeric based coating with potential application in the treatment of medical devices associated infections. Data from UV-visible spectroscopy, electron scanning and transmission microscope (STEM), photoelectric spectroscopy (XPS) and rheological characterization were combined to characterize the HA-DE…

Shear capacity in concrete beams reinforced by stirrups with two different inclinations

2014

Abstract A model for the estimation of shear capacity in Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams with web reinforcement is provided by introducing a generalization of classical plastic Nielsen’s model, which is based on the variable-inclination stress-field approach. The proposed model is able to predict the shear capacity in RC beams reinforced by means of stirrups having two different inclinations and longitudinal web bars. A numerical comparison with the results of experimental tests and those provided by a Finite Element Model (FEM) based on the well known theory of Modified Compression Field Theory (MCFT) is carried out for validating the robustness of the proposed model. Finally, a set of para…

Numerical analysis of density gradient centrifugation profiles from eukaryotic DNA

1990

A numerical method for the deconvolution of superimposed Gaussian distributions with a unique solution has been proposed by Medgyessy [10]. We have tested the usefulness of this method for the analysis of density gradient centrifugation profiles from eukaryotic DNA, which are normally composed from overlapping Gaussian distributed profiles of several subcomponents with different mean buoyant densities. From the analysis of human DNA and from model calculations we conclude that major subcomponents can be identified by this method, if they differ in their buoyant density by approximatly 0.005 g/ml. Minor components can only be identified if the total DNA has been fractionated according to buo…

Mechanical and thermal behaviour of networks with “flexible” and “rigid” chains

1996

“Rigid-rod” telechelics were synthesized via repetitive Diels-Alder reaction of biscyclohexadienes and bis(1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-diones). The bistriazolinediones were used in slight excess. The rigidity of the building blocks and the molecular weight were varied. Various amounts of these reactive telechelics are used to crosslink cis-1,4-polybutadiene. The mechanical and the thermal properties of these two-component networks were investigated by stress-strain, differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic-mechanical measurements. The occurrence of microphase separation between the “rigid” and the “flexible” components is discussed to explain the properties of these materials.

X-ray study of LB multilayers of cadmium soaps in the vicinity of the break up point

1991

Temperature dependent SAXS measurements were carried out on multilayers of two different salts, cadmium palmitate (hexadecanoate) and behenate (docosanoate). The pattern characteristic of layer structure disappears at a transition temperature well below the bulk melting point in both cases. Examination by means of optical microscopy shows that the LB films break up at a temperature close to this transition. Measurements in its vicinity demonstrate that over a certain temperature range just below the transition a second set of peaks arises in the diffraction pattern. During this transition region of about 3 °C width two d-spacings for both salts were found, suggesting the simultaneous existe…
