In this study, the evaluation of soil characteristics was coupled with a pyrosequencing analysis of the V2-V3 16S rRNA gene region in order to investigate the bacterial community structure and diversity in the A horizon of a natural saline soil located in Sicily (Italy). The main aim of the research was to assess the organisation and diversity of microbial taxa using a spatial scale that revealed physical and chemical heterogeneity of the habitat under investigation. Objectives: Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) is a chronic disease of the oral mucosa, and according to the WHO also a pre malignant condition. Micro-RNAs are short non coding RNAs capable of regulating mRNA expression. MiRNA:scan be detected in tissue, blood and human whole saliva (HWS) and recently we have shown miR-203 to be up-regulated in tissue from OLP lesions. Study Design: In order to see whether mRNA as well as miR-203 could be detected also in HWS, saliva from healthy controls and patients with OLP were analysed using two different PCR methods. Over a decade of in-vitro data support a critical role for members of the Homer family of postsynaptic scaffolding proteins in regulating the functional architecture of glutamate synapses. Earlier studies of Homer knockout mice indicated a necessary role for Homer gene products in normal mesocorticolimbic glutamate transmission and behaviours associated therewith. Ribosome heterogeneity is of increasing biological significance and several examples have been described for multicellular and single cells organisms. In here we show for the first time a variation in ribose methylation within the 18S rRNA of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Using RNA-cleaving DNAzymes, we could specifically demonstrate that a significant amount of S. cerevisiae ribosomes are not methylated at 2'-O-ribose of A100 residue in the 18S rRNA. A broad-range bacterial PCR method with universal 16S rDNA targeting primers and bacterial cultivation was used to identify the putative pathogen in flavobacterial outbreaks. Restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis and sequencing of the partial 16S rDNA PCR products of 10 skin samples and 10 representative isolates derived from the same fish specimens revealed differences between direct molecular and cultivation-based analysis. We have isolated and sequenced one intergenic region and a small part of the flanking regions (18S and 26S rRNA coding regions) of the rRNA-encoding genes (rDNA) from the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus. This region is about 3.8 Kb long. Northern blot hybridizations and S1 mapping experiments demonstrated the presence of a partially processed 21S rRNA precursor while has the same 5' terminus as the 32S primary precursor, also in developmental stages characterized by a low rate of rRNA synthesis.
A Bacillus thuringiensis strain producing epizootics on Plodia interpunctella: A case study

Abstract After several disease outbreaks in laboratory cultures of pyralid moths in Tabriz University, Iran, during 2004 and 2005, a new Bacillus thuringiensis aizawai strain EF495116 (BTA) was isolated from a dead Plodia interpunctella larva.
