Correction to: a predictive model for women's assisted fecundity before starting the first IVF/ICSI treatment cycle.

PURPOSE: To introduce a prognostic model for women’s assisted fecundity before starting the first IVF/ICSI treatment cycle. METHODS: In contrast to previous predictive models, we analyze two groups of women at the extremes of prognosis. Specifically, 708 infertile women that had either a live birth (LB) event in the first autologous IVF/ICSI cycle (“high-assisted-fecundity women”, n = 458) or did not succeed in having a LB event after completing three autologous IVF/ICSI cycles (“low-assisted-fecundity women”, n = 250). Incipient speciation in Drosophila melanogaster involves chemical signals.

WOS: 000300572900001; International audience; The sensory and genetic bases of incipient speciation between strains of Drosophila melanogaster from Zimbabwe and those from elsewhere are unknown. We studied mating behaviour between eight strains - six from Zimbabwe, together with two cosmopolitan strains. The Zimbabwe strains showed significant sexual isolation when paired with cosmopolitan males, due to Zimbabwe females discriminating against these males. There are a number of advantages of cooled semen doses, including easier handling of artificial insemination (AI) doses, transport, more AI doses per ejaculate, and higher fertility rates in comparison with frozen AI doses. Infanticide in the evolution of reproductive synchrony: effects on reproductive success.

Synchronous breeding in animals and plants has stimulated both a theoretical and empirical examination of the possible benefits of active synchronization. The selective pressures of predation and infanticide are the strongest candidates proposed to explain the evolution of reproductive synchrony. Mate fidelity and coloniality in waterbirds: a comparative analysis

Increased opportunities for information are one potential benefit of sociality. We apply this idea to the advantages of colonial breeding in bird species that are typically monogamous within a breeding season but often form new pair-bonds in subsequent seasons. Genetic variation of naturally growing olive trees in Israel: from abandoned groves to feral and wild?

Background Naturally growing populations of olive trees are found in the Mediterranean garrigue and maquis in Israel. Here, we used the Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) genetic marker technique to investigate whether these represent wild var. sylvestris. Leaf samples were collected from a total of 205 trees at six sites of naturally growing olive populations in Israel. The evolutionary dynamics of adaptive virginity, sex-allocation and altruistic helping in haplodiploid animals

In haplodiploids, females can produce sons from unfertilized eggs without mating. However, virgin reproduction is usually considered to be a result of a failure to mate, rather than an adaptation. Here, we build an analytical model for evolution of virgin reproduction, sex-allocation, and altruistic female helping in haplodiploid taxa. We show that when mating is costly (e.g., when mating increases predation risk), virginity can evolve as an adaptive female reproductive strategy. Furthermore, adaptive virginity results in strongly divergent sex-ratios in mated and virgin queen nests ("split sex ratios"), which promotes the evolution of altruistic helping by daughters in mated queen nests.
