Host glycoprotein Gp96 and scavenger receptor SREC interact with PorB of disseminating Neisseria gonorrhoeae in an epithelial invasion pathway.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae expresses numerous surface proteins that mediate bacterial adherence and invasion during infection. Gonococci expressing serotype A of the major outer membrane porin PorB (PorB(IA)) are frequently isolated from patients with severe disseminating infections. PorB(IA) triggers efficient adherence and invasion under low phosphate conditions mimicking systemic bloodstream infections. Here, we identify the human heat shock glycoprotein Gp96 and the scavenger receptor SREC as PorB(IA)-specific receptors. In the present study, we analyzed leaf mineral contents fruit quality traits of orange, lemon and tangerine varieties grown in Sicily. The purpose of this research was to individuate chemical or physical fruit quality parameters useful to establish the best possible use of the crop, fresh market or processing. Moreover, leaf mineral analyses were conducted in order to characterize nutritional levels of citrus varieties grown in Sicily. In a second study, we evaluated fruit quality of orange trees cv Valencia in response to deficit irrigation.

Protective Effect of Astaxanthin on Primary Retinal Cells of the Gerbil Psammomys Obesus Cultured in Diabetic Milieu

Astaxanthin is a major marine carotenoid with powerful antioxidant and neuroprotective properties. The in vitro protective effect of astaxanthin in adult retinal cells of the type-2 diabetic model Psammomys obesus in hyperglycemic conditions was investigated. Primary retinal cells were cultured in normal (5 mM) or high concentrations of glucose (25 and 40 mM) for 5 days and treated with 1-20 μM astaxanthin for the last 48 h of culturing. Mitochondrial dehydrogenase activity and cell viability were assessed using MTT test and trypan blue exclusion dye. Retinal cells were characterized by immunohistochemistry. Un'idea semplice e rivoluzionaria: riuscire a trasformare, in armonia con la tradizione, il “parco agricolo sud” di Milano. La proposta si sviluppa su più piani: restauro delle abitazioni e cascine del parco, lo fruttamento delle energie eco-compatibili (biomassa, energia solare e energia idraulica), e promozione del parco come meta turistica. Un lavoro simile è già in atto in diverse parti della regione Lombardia. L’area del parco del Ticino dopo due anni di lavoro è quasi tutta eco compatibile. Nella provincia di Cremona alcune aziende agricole hanno già iniziato a sviluppare e a monetizzare la biomassa.

Polyamines and their related monoacetyl derivatives were studied in rod outer segment (ROS) and cone outer segment (COS) of photoreceptor cells from chick embryo retina during eye development (7th-18th days). Putrescine was found to be necessary, in the second phase of retinogenesis, to sustain both ROS and COS differentiation and, after acetylation, gamma-aminobutyric acid synthesis. On the Other hand, spermidine and even more spermine intervene in the third phase of development when photoreceptors mature. Come noto, la correlazione tra il fenomeno fisico ed i fattori predisponenti sulla base degli eventi accaduti in passato è il punto chiave di tale analisi.
