Testing a Simplified Approach to Determine Field Saturated Soil Hydraulic Conductivity

Abstract Interpreting and simulating hydrological processes need a large number of field saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, Kfs , data that should be collected with simple and rapid field experiments. A Simplified method based on a Beerkan Infiltration run (SBI method) was recently developed and tested successfully on Burundian soils. With the SBI method, a cylinder is inserted to a short depth into the soil and the infiltration time of a few small volumes of water repeatedly applied at the surface of the confined soil is measured. The crystal structures of the two title compounds display chair conformations of the piperidine rings in their mol­ecules. In compound (I), the biphenyl system has a twisted conformation with a dihedral angle of 26.57 (6)° while in compound (II) the two phenyl rings are exactly coplanar.

ALMA spectral survey of Supernova 1987A – molecular inventory, chemistry, dynamics and explosive nucleosynthesis

We report the first molecular line survey of Supernova 1987A in the millimetre wavelength range. In the ALMA 210--300 and 340--360 GHz spectra, we detected cold (20--170 K) CO, 28SiO, HCO+ and SO, with weaker lines of 29SiO from ejecta. This is the first identification of HCO+ and SO in a young supernova remnant. We find a dip in the J=6--5 and 5--4 SiO line profiles, suggesting that the ejecta morphology is likely elongated. The difference of the CO and SiO line profiles is consistent with hydrodynamic simulations, which show that Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities cause mixing of gas, with heavier elements much more disturbed, making more elongated structure. DNA image cytometry in stomach carcinoma. Its relation to histomorphologic parameters and its influence on prognosis

BACKGROUND The influence of DNA content on the prognosis in stomach cancer is controversial. METHOD After curative resection of stomach carcinomas (adenocarcinomas [n = 58]; signet ring cell carcinomas [n = 24]; undifferentiated carcinomas [n = 21]), the influence of the DNA content and histomorphologic parameters on the prognosis was examined. RESULTS In the multivariate regression analysis, the prognosis depended on the lymph node status (P = 0.0009), pT stage (P = 0.02), tumor localization (P = 0.03), and histologic type (P = 0.05). Complete 1H and 13C NMR assignments of clerodane diterpenoids of Salvia splendens.

Unambiguous and complete assignments of 1H and 13C NMR chemical shifts for five clerodane diterpenes, four of them isolated from Salvia splendens (salviarin, splendidin and splenolides A and B) and one obtained by acetylation of splenolide A, are presented. The assignments are based on 2D shift-correlated [1H,1H–COSY, 1H,13C-gHSQC–1J(C,H) and 1H,13C-gHMBC-nJ(C,H) (n = 2 and 3)] and nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE) experiments. The conformation of the rings of these compounds is supported by the 3J(H,H) values and NOE results. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
