Glucose Diffusion Coefficients Determined from Concentration Profiles in Emt6 Tumor Spheroids Incubated in Radioactively Labeled L-Glucose

1994

In order to theoretically assess tissue energetic status, conditions for substance exchange need to be known. One group of parameters important in this context are diffusion coefficients of nutrients and metabolic waste products which may be assessed by incubating spheroids in a medium containing tracer amounts of the radioactively labeled substance in question, for a defined period of time. In previous studies, the overall amount of 14C-labeled substance taken up by the spheroids was measured by scintillation counters (e.g.[1]), or the concentration of 3H-labeled substance in the spheroid center was determined by autoradiography and grain counting (e.g. [4]). From a number of such measurem…

Vitrification in restricted geometry: dry films of colloidal particles

2007

We prepared dry films of colloidal particles from surfactant co-stabilized polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) latex spheres of moderate polydispersity. The film thickness was varied from monolayer to some 20 μm. The average structure and the influence of polydispersity was analyzed by small-angle X-ray scattering. An analysis of local microscopic structures was performed by force microscopy on the least polydisperse sample. Irrespective of the thickness, we observe the formation of only short-ranged order which is rather pronounced but changes its qualitative character in the vicinity of the substrate. The observations suggest a bulk structure of small, defect-rich and stacking fault…

Synthetic Application of Homogeneous Charge Transfer Catalysis in the Electrocarboxylation of Benzyl Halides

1998

The results of an investigation on the performances of some outer sphere electron transfer homogeneous catalysts in the electrocarboxylation of 1-(p-isobutyl-phenyl)-1-chloroethane to 2-(p-isobutyl-phenyl)-propionic acid (Ibuprofen), using as catalysts the esters of benzoic and o-, m-, and p-phtalic acids, are reported. The performances of the catalysts are evaluated on the basis of the following parameters: faradic yields of the carboxylation and decomposition of the catalyst. The performances of dimethylisophtalate have been examined in greater detail. The rate of decomposition of the catalyst is related to the molar ratio [halide]/[catalyst].

CAMPANIAN WINE FOR PUNIC SICILY: PETROGRAPHIC AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL STUDIES OF GRAECO-ITALIC AMPHORAE FROM PALERMO

2018

This contribution proposes a combination of archaeological fabric analysis and petrographic research applied to the study of 35 sherds of Graeco-Italic amphorae mostly found in Palermo, but also in Pantelleria and Malta (Tab. 1). The provenance identification derived from both approaches gives evidence for the arrival, in North-Western Sicily, of presumable wine amphorae from central-Tyrrhenian Italy since the very late 4th century BC. The production of the majority of the material has been confidentially attributed to the area of the Gulf of Naples/Ischia, but a second large group originates from several, still unidentified production sites to be located along the coastal strip of Campania…

Copper( ii ) complexes with phosphorylated 1,10-phenanthrolines: from molecules to infinite supramolecular arrays

2016

International audience; The reaction of phosphorylated 1,10-phenanthrolines 3-Pphen, 3,8-Pphen and 4,7-Pphen (3-Pphen = 3-diethoxyphosphorylphenanthroline, 3,8-Pphen = 3,8-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl) phenanthroline, 4,7-Pphen = 4,7-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl) phenanthroline) and hydrated copper(II) nitrate in a 1 : 1 ratio leads to the formation of supramolecular architectures. In the 1D coordination polymer [Cu(3-Pphen)(NO3)(2)](n) (2) the copper atom is coordinated to only one phenanthroline ligand and the coordination sphere is completed by two oxygen atoms of nitrate anions and the oxygen atom of the phosphoryl group from the neighbouring phenanthroline ligand. Complex Cu(3,8-Pphen)(NO3)(2) (3)…

The culinary act in everyday life : definition and pilot study

2017

International audience; Cooking at home, according to studies, newspapers and social networks, has become increasingly popular. This is in opposition with the reduction of time spent in culinary preparation. While health discourses advocate consumer responsibility and invite them to consume a more balanced diet, we question the place of cooking in everyday life in France. The culinary act is a cycle of actions that leads to the realization of the desired dish. It is an integral part of the food act. A cycle starts either when you find an idea or a recipe, or when selecting the ingredients. These actions are followed by the realization of the recipe, by technical means, and by conceptual and…

Points massiques, espace des sphères et « hyperbole »

2015

The use of massic points permits to define a branch of a hyperbola in the Euclidean plane using a Rational Quadratic Bézier Curve. In the space of spheres, a circular cone, a circular cylinder, a torus, a pencil of spheres or a Dupin cyclide is represented by a conic. If the kind of the pencil is Poncelet or if the canal surface is a circular cone, a spindle torus, a spindle or a horned Dupin cyclide, the curve is a circle which is seen as a hyperbole. The limit points of the pencil or the singular points of the Dupin cyclide can be determined using the asymptotes of this circle. In this article, we show that the use of massic points simplifies the modelization of these pencils or these Dup…

2017

The molecular structure of the title compound, [FePt(CN)4(C14H8N2)2(H2O)2]n, consists of one-dimensional polymeric [–Fe–NC–Pt(CN)2–CN–]∞chains. Two water molecules and two monodentate 1,4-bis(pyridin-4-yl)buta-1,3-diyne (bpb) ligand molecules complete the octahedral coordination sphere of the FeIIatoms. The Fe—N(py) bond length (py is pyridine) is 2.2700 (15) Å, Fe—N(cyanide) is 2.1185 (16) Å and the Fe—O distance is 2.1275 (14) Å. The water molecules are hydrogen bonded to either bpb ligands or cyanide groups of the planar [Pt(CN)4]2−anion of adjacent polymeric chains. These O—H...N hydrogen bonds, in conjunction with offset and tilted π–π stacking interactions between bpb ligands and cyan…
