Gut and microbial resveratrol metabolite profiling after moderate long-term consumption of red wine versus dealcoholized red wine in humans by an opt…

2012

Resveratrol exerts a variety of biological and pharmacological activities, which are observed despite its extremely low bioavailability and rapid clearance from the circulation due to extensive sulfation and glucuronidation in the intestine and liver. In order to more accurately quantify all known resveratrol metabolites, a sensitive and optimized analytical assay was developed and validated by pure standards. Methodology improvements aimed to the chromatographic detection of disulfates and sulfoglucuronides, improving resolution of sulfates, by using a buffered solution, with recovery values of resveratrol and its metabolites, even of sulfates, of 99%. The adapted methodology was then appl…

Fluconazole susceptibility of Italian Candida dabliniensis clinical isolates determined by reference and simplified tests

2001

Candida dubliniensis ia an opportunistic pathogen mainly associated with oral candidiasis in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals. We recently recovered the first Italian clinical isolates of C. dubliniensis from the oral cavities of seven HIV-seropositive subjects. The in vitro susceptibility to fluconazole (FLCZ) of these isolates was determined according to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) M27-A broth microdilution method for yeasts. All seven isolates of C. dubliniensis were susceptible to FLCZ (MICs < or =0.5 microg/ml). Results of this reference method were compared to those obtained with simplified tests, more adapted to routine eval…

Characterization and multicentric validation of a common standard for Toxoplasma gondii detection using nucleic acid amplification assays.

2014

ABSTRACT The molecular diagnosis of toxoplasmosis essentially relies upon laboratory-developed methods and suffers from lack of standardization, hence the large diversity of performances between laboratories. Moreover, quantifications of parasitic loads differ among centers, a fact which prevents the possible prediction of the severity of this disease as a function of parasitic loads. The objectives of this multicentric study performed in eight proficient laboratories of the Molecular Biology Pole of the French National Reference Center for Toxoplasmosis (NRC-T) were (i) to assess the suitability of a lyophilized preparation of Toxoplasma gondii as a common standard for use in this PCR-base…

Comparison of disc diffusion assay with the CLSI reference method (M27-A2) for testing in vitro posaconazole activity against common and uncommon yea…

2007

Objectives To evaluate the suitability of disc diffusion (DD) assay for testing posaconazole activity and to corroborate its activity against recently isolated yeasts by the CLSI reference microdilution M27-A2 method. Methods A total of 224 yeast isolates (7 species with 52 to 11 isolates each, and 15 species with 1 to 6 isolates) were evaluated, 125 were recent bloodstream isolates, 30 isolates from other sources and six ATCC isolates that included amphotericin B-resistant Candida albicans ATCC 200955, Candida lusitaniae (ATCC 200950, 200951, 200952 and 200953) and amphotericin B- and itraconazole-resistant Candida tropicalis ATCC 200956. MICs were determined at 24 and 48 h by following th…

Characterization of MEMS accelerometer self-noise by means of PSD and Allan Variance analysis

2017

In this paper, we have studied the sources of error of a low-cost 3-axis MEMS accelerometer by means of Power Spectral Density and Allan Variance techniques. These techniques were applied to the signals acquired from ten identical devices to characterize the variability of the sensor produced by the same manufacturer. Our analysis showed as identically produced accelerometer have somehow variable behavior in particular at low frequency. It is therefore of paramount importance before their use in Inertial Navigation or Earthquakes Monitoring System, a complete characterization of each single sensors.

New concepts in multidentate ligand chemistry: effects of multidentarity on catalytic and spectroscopic properties of ferrocenyl polyphosphines.

2008

This tutorial review devoted to ligand chemistry deals with the design and properties of ferrocenyl polyphosphines, an original class of multidentate ligands. The development of a varied library of ferrocenyl tetra-, tri- and diphosphine ligands is reviewed. The multidentate nature of these species has led to unique spectroscopic and catalytic properties, in which the spatial proximity of phosphorus atoms is crucial. Regarding their catalytic applications, the key issues of catalyst longevity and ultralow catalyst loadings are discussed. Another part is concerned with fundamental advances gained in physical chemistry for structure elucidation by the study of the intriguing “through-space” N…
