Determination of amobarbital and secobarbital in plasma samples using micellar liquid chromatography

A new liquid chromatographic procedure for the determination of amobarbital and secobarbital in plasma samples is proposed. The method uses a Spherisorb octadecylsilane ODS-2 C18 analytical column, a guard column of similar characteristics and 0.04 M CTAB solution buffered at pH 7.5 containing 3% 1-propanol as micellar mobile phase. The UV detection was carried out at 250 nm. Butabarbital was used as internal standard. Plasma samples preparation only required adequate dilution with the mobile phase before injection into the chromatographic system. Abstract Background Robotic systems are designed to minimize the exposure to antineoplastic drugs during automated preparation. However, contamination cannot be completely excluded. The aim of the study was to evaluate the contamination with antineoplastic drugs on the working surfaces and on the outer surface of the ready-to-use products (infusion bags and syringes) during automated preparation with different versions of a robot and manual preparation. The Chapter covers the theoretical and experimental approaches to the investigations of the physical properties, which are inherent in ferroics of nanosize and absent in corresponding bulk materials. Namely, the strong surface influence along with other effects of geometrical confinement generates number of physical effects, which do not occur in bulk ferroics samples. Trace element data covering 96-7 ka BP from stalagmite CM (Santo Tomas Cave, Cuba)

We present a new speleothem trace element and stable isotope record, which extends previous paleoclimate evidence from Cuban speleothems to the last 96 ka. Stable isotope samples were micromilled at a resolution of 0.10-0.33mm, and measured using an IRMS equipped with a Gasbench. Line scans of Element/Calcium ratios of the speleothem were measured by laser ablation ICPMS and were reduced to the resolution of the stable isotope records.

Actinic Flux and Net Flux Calculations in Radiative Transfer—A Comparative Study of Computational Efficiency

Abstract The accuracy and speed of three well-known computational techniques (DISORT, the δ–four-stream approximation, and the two-stream approximation), and the matrix inversion method, which is less well known, have been investigated. Results are presented for both broadband actinic and net fluxes over a range of parameters including solar zenith cosine, relative humidity, and altitude for two different surface/aerosol systems: terrestrial and oceanic. The Lineshape of Inelastic Neutron Scattering in Relaxor Ferroelectrics

We show that a microscopic reason for the steep drop of the optical phonon branch into an acoustic one (the so-called waterfall effect) in relaxor ferroelectrics may be the coupling of phonons with defects and impurities of different kinds, which is always present in relaxors. Namely, we do not specify the type of impurities but rather represent them as an ensemble of so-called two-level systems (TLS). This approach makes it possible to trace the evolution of the “waterfall” with temperature and the TLS concentration. Harmonic solution of semiconductor transport equations for microwave and millimetre-wave device modelling

The transport equations for charges in a semiconductor have been solved for a periodic voltage excitation by means of a harmonic approach, for modelling of microwave and millimetre-wave active devices. The solution is based on the expansion of the unknown physical quantities in Fourier series in the time domain, and on the discretisation in the space domain. A Waveform-Balance technique in the time domain is used to solve the resulting non-linear equations system. In this way the time step is determined only by Nyquist's sampling requirements at the operating frequency, irrespective of the relaxation times of the semiconductor. Precision measurement of the K S meson lifetime with the KLOE detector

2010

Using a large sample of pure, slow, short lived K0 mesons collected with KLOE detector at DaFne, we have measured the KS lifetime. From a fit to the proper time distribution we find tau = (89.562 +- 0.029_stat +- 0.043_syst) ps. This is the most precise measurement today in good agreement with the world average derived from previous measurements. We observe no dependence of the lifetime on the direction of the Ks.
