3-Diazopyrroles—IV. Structure determination using 13C NMR spectroscopy

1990

Abstract On the basis of the 13 C NMR chemical shifts, it is proposed that, although b is the major canonical structure, structure c , in which a negative charge resides at C-3, provides an important contribution to the resonance stabilization of the 3-diazopyrroles, 1–4 .

X-Raying the Dark Side of Venus - Scatter from Venus Magnetotail?

2016

This work analyzes the X-ray, EUV and UV emission apparently coming from the Earth-facing (dark) side of Venus as observed with Hinode/XRT and SDO/AIA during a transit across the solar disk occurred in 2012. We have measured significant X-Ray, EUV and UV flux from Venus dark side. As a check we have also analyzed a Mercury transit across the solar disk, observed with Hinode/XRT in 2006. We have used the latest version of the Hinode/XRT Point Spread Function (PSF) to deconvolve Venus and Mercury X-ray images, in order to remove possible instrumental scattering. Even after deconvolution, the flux from Venus shadow remains significant while in the case of Mercury it becomes negligible. Since s…

Analysis of the planetary mass uncertainties on the accuracy of atmospherical retrieval

2023

Characterising the properties of exoplanet atmospheres relies on several interconnected parameters, which makes it difficult to determine them independently. Planetary mass plays a role in determining the scale height of atmospheres, similarly to the contribution from the average molecular weight of the gas. We investigate the relevance of planetary mass knowledge in spectral retrievals, identifying cases where mass measurements are needed for clear or cloudy and primary or secondary atmospheres, along with the relevant precision, in the context of the ESA M4 Ariel Mission. We used TauREx to simulate the Ariel transmission spectra of representative targets of the Ariel mission reference sam…

Polar motion prediction using the combination of SSA and Copula-based analysis

2018

The real-time estimation of polar motion (PM) is needed for the navigation of Earth satellite and interplanetary spacecraft. However, it is impossible to have real-time information due to the complexity of the measurement model and data processing. Various prediction methods have been developed. However, the accuracy of PM prediction is still not satisfactory even for a few days in the future. Therefore, new techniques or a combination of the existing methods need to be investigated for improving the accuracy of the predicted PM. There is a well-introduced method called Copula, and we want to combine it with singular spectrum analysis (SSA) method for PM prediction. In this study, first, we…

Modular, customisable, accomodation-friendly antenna system for satellite avionics: Development, prototyping and validation

2014

In the frame of ESA program AO/1- 6737/11/NL/MH, an innovative X-band antenna system for satellite avionics has been studied, demonstrated and validated at Proof of Concept Model level. The innovative contribution of such an antenna system relies on modularity, customizability and accommodation friendliness. The antenna concept is based on a Plug and Play architecture, where the basic module is a 2.7 cm-cube with a mass of 53 gr, which can be clustered in array configuration. A catalogue of predefined and ready-to-use clusters could be developed with the possibility of adapting the antenna systems to various platform types by tuning just a few control parameters. Different levels of customi…

The Quest for Global Safety

2007

The authors present a systematic study on the factors that have influence on the establishment of the safety conditions ensuring the rise of Global Earthing Systems. Starting from the definition of Global Earthing System given by CENELEC Document HD 637 SI and from the results of the studies done on the last years on the interconnected earthing systems inside MV networks, the paper proposes some directions of deepening on the topic of Global Safety. Some of the themes whom the paper deals with are: the correct definition of proximity, interconnection and quasi-equipotentiality of the earth electrodes belonging to a Global Earthing System; the influence of the presence of HV/MV stations on h…

Ground-Fault Current Transfer at the Transition Station of a Combined Overhead-Cable Line. A Parametric Analysis

2007

When a substation is fed by a combined overhead-cable transmission line, a significant part of the ground fault current flows through the grounded cable sheaths and discharges into the earth at the transition station, where cables are connected to the overhead line. If the transition station is a dead-end steel pole structure, the local ground electrode, small and of high resistance, could be inadequate to maintain the ground potential rise within safety limits in case of a fault to ground at the receiving end substation. Based on a circuit model approach, the paper presents a parametric analysis of the fault current distribution between the faulted substation and the transition station, ta…
