2013

The contribution of Architecture to the redefinition of the Brera Academy. A comparison of the sorry state of the republican education and its places with international architecture that exemplifies a different attitude towards culture such as the Openbare Bibliotheek in Amsterdam, evidencing a serious Italian short fall. The author proposes an alternative project starting with the cancellation of all the projects and competitions so far proposed in an uncoordinated manner, from the Grande Brera project to the unacceptable transfer of the Academy. Furthermore, he proposes an international com- petition for the whole Brera complex, the Pinacoteca, Academy and Observatory, that would enable st…

Il disegno come immagine adeguata del reale. Ernst Haeckel, l’illustrazione scientifica e la controversia sulla riproduzione fotografica del vivente

2020

The works of Ernst Haeckel, one of the staunchest defenders of Darwin and amateur artist, brought Goethian morphology to new horizons, contributing to the affirmation of evolutionism. Overcoming the traditional disciplinary boundaries, he promoted a “biological Aesthetics”, convinced that the artistic representation of living forms is more profound and stimulating for science than any photographic reproduction. In fact, in his opinion, the scientist is a free interpreter of vital phenomena and his drawings are able of grasping the essence of biological processes. Reading some Haeckelian works, in this article we will try to clarify why the photographer has a passive view of the world, repro…

Constraints on Cosmic Strings Using Data from the Third Advanced LIGO–Virgo Observing Run

2021

We search for gravitational-wave signals produced by cosmic strings in the Advanced LIGO and Virgo full O3 data set. Search results are presented for gravitational waves produced by cosmic string loop features such as cusps, kinks and, for the first time, kink-kink collisions.cA template-based search for short-duration transient signals does not yield a detection. We also use the stochastic gravitational-wave background energy density upper limits derived from the O3 data to constrain the cosmic string tension, $G\mu$, as a function of the number of kinks, or the number of cusps, for two cosmic string loop distribution models.cAdditionally, we develop and test a third model which interpolat…

Pedagoģijas zinātnes ģenēze Latvijā no 20.gadsimta 20.gadiem līdz 60.gadu sākumam

2013

ANOTĀCIJA Ivetas Ozolas promocijas darba „Pedagoģijas zinātnes ģenēze Latvijā no 20. gadsimta 20. gadiem līdz 60. gadu sākumam” mērķis ir izpētīt, kā sociālpolitisku un zinātnes procesu kontekstā pedagoģija Latvijā laika posmā no 20. gadsimta 20. gadiem līdz 60. gadu sākumam veidojusies un attīstījusies kā patstāvīga zinātnes nozare. Darbā analizēti zinātnes veidošanās teorētiskie pamati, definējot dimensijas, kas raksturo atsevišķu zinātnes nozaru izveidošanos. Atbilstoši tām pētīta pedagoģijas zinātnes institucionālās, komunikatīvās un metodoloģiskās dimensijas attīstība Latvijā dažādu pedagoģijas paradigmu un sociālpolitisko apstākļu kontekstā. Pētījuma rezultāti apliecina, ka pedagoģija…

Augmented lectures: Benefits of supporting physics teaching with the theatre

2019

Abstract Young generations are less and less interested in studying STEM subjects. For this reason, numerous studies have strongly suggested a change in the methods scientific knowledge is developed in the learners, through the use of alternative and more creative strategies. In recent decades a strong interaction between scientific subjects and the arts has been established by means of theatre. The objective is to bring science to students and the public in ways that are engaging, instructive, artistic and, always, content-driven: the medium is the arts; the message is the joy of science. When we talk about Physics in a theatre show, are we only making a good dissemination or are we also t…

Dissemination of Spanish Social Sciences and Humanities Journals

2005

The presence of scholarly journals in international data bases promotes the dissemination of research results and also facilitates requests for specific articles or journals by end users. As scientists seek optimal visibility for their work and wish their results to be published in journals with high circulation, it is important to know which are the leading journals within each scientific area. This paper contains a bibliometric study of scientific journals in the areas of Social Sciences and Humanities that are currently published in Spain, together with information concerning their production and circulation in the different national and international bibliographical data bases, publishe…

In present days the storical heritage the transmission of art and its performance is very important argument of debate. Its representation is the building museum in many different forms. The building museum of art is the most important place for exsposition of masterpieces instead the museum of architecture exhibits the works through projects and patterns. Today museum reconstructs the human perception of space using new technologies. The same thing happens for the museum of science and technique where the visitor gets involved in scientific representation. Therefore museum can be a place of study and scientific research. It can be either memory of past times or place of contemporaneity. This study expresses origin and meaning of building museum through the critical analysis of architectonic forms technological aims and the proper use of the exspositive space.Settore ICAR/12 - Tecnologia Dell'Architettura

Generation of social assets and sharing knowledge in a hybrid intentional community: pilot analysis from Latvia

2013

Generavimas socialinių lėšų ir iš anksto apgalvotų žinių dalinimas mišrioje bendruomenėje: bandomasis tyrimas Latvijoje. The present paper is an attempt to investigate the dynamics of social assets building and knowledge exchange among the members of an intentional community (the National Library of Latvia users’ community) based on a hybrid social infrastructure consisting of online and offline (face-to-face) links and communication channels. Although the theoretical framework is primarily based on the social capital theory, knowledge management studies and the theory of social categorization, insights from applied epistemology are also included. The proposed model hypothesizes a positive …

Information Technologies and Social Media: New Scientific Methods for the Anthropocene

2022

The development of technology during the Anthropocene has affected science and the ways of “doing science”. Nowadays, new technologies help scientists of several disciplines by facilitating knowledge and how to manage it, but also allow for collaborative science, the so-called “Social Science”, where everyone can be a scientist and be involved in providing data and knowledge by using a computer or a smartphone without being a specialist. But is it really that simple? Actually, the daily and integrated use of different digital technologies and sharing platforms, such as social media, requires important reflections. Such reflections can lead to a rethinking of epistemologies and scientific pa…
