Sculture in facciata: l’espressione dell’identità siciliana nelle architetture monumentali tra Regime e Repubblica
2020
After an introduction on the issue of the art-architecture relationship during Fascism, the paper analyzes four significant cases in the delicate historical transition from the Regime to the republican age in Sicily, in order to understand the role of artistic decorations in the facade, in relation to the architecture and cultural traditions of the island. The first two belong to the monumental type of the Palace of Justice, while the others are representative buildings: a Hotel and a Bank.

"Terrenis caelestia iunguntur".
2020
In the medieval cemetery of the Historic Site of San Juan del Hospital of Valencia is housed a small funeral chapel founded in the late thirteenth century by the knight Arnau de Romaní. Along its cornice there are a series of heads of animals and humans that are one of the few sculptural vestiges inserted into the Romanesque iconographic tradition that are preserved in the city. So far they have not aroused the interest of specialists and no one has dedicated a detailed study to these curious and interesting images located in the marginal spaces of such a beautiful building. This article aims to complete this gap addressing the study of the corbels of the small temple, projecting a thematic…

2019
The candelabrum for the Easter candle in the Palatine Chapel in Palermo is in many ways one of the emblematic examples of Norman sculpture in Sicily, to be placed in the context of a broader Mediterranean current, classicistic and highly expressive, which includes contemporary productions of Tuscany, Emilia, Provence, Ile-de-France, Roussillon and Languedoc, Catalonia, up to the Holy Land of the Crusaders. This essay examines its complex iconography and proposes new hypotheses about its probable client or donor, the Archbishop of Salerno and chronicler Romualdo Guarna..
